Features of the change in time in Texas, Ili "Time is going away — all around that he But onse worse, but onse only worse" (Egor Letov).
Hello, everyone!
It’s a shame we can’t travel through time. If we had such a gift, life would be a fairy tale. Forgot your exam answers? No problem; ' scrolling' time, memorize answers (or make cheat sheets), and voila: return to ' our time', pass the exam on ' Five' Everything would be brilliantly simple, problems would cease to exist.
But, you know, who wouldn’t use space and time? Movies. They know what can happen in such trips: all these crushed butterflies, sports almanacs and other holidays celebrated in February, do not lead to anything good. Every fan of the genre knows that if you play with time, then expect very serious consequences. . .
And today, we will remember the undeservedly forgotten masterpiece of film fiction straight from the nineties. The film, one might say, is an evil and cynical version of Groundhog Day'. Incredibly tense, cool and grinding 'Failure in time', 1997 release.
I love this movie because of the Texas atmosphere. How much I love it (the atmosphere): a dusty highway, roadside cafes and gas stations, endless deserts, mountains visible in the distance ... That's why I love ' Texas Chainsaw Massacre', ' From Dusk to Dawn', ' Traveler (I know it's in California, but the atmosphere is the same), ' Proof of Death', ' Accident' and ' Old people don't belong here'
Plot. Karen was very unlucky. She worked as a psychologist, ' chatting' with murderers and terrorists. She quit her organs because of an accident three days ago: Karen couldn't save the lives of three hostages. Now she races through the dusty roads of Texas, in search of a bright future.
But, there is another unfortunate thing: her car broke down. She starts ' vote ' on the track, hoping for help. And that same help comes from Frank, who was driving by and decided to take Karen. With the man in the car is his wife Ryan.
Events take a bad turn after at the gas station Frank learns from his friend shocking news - his wife, it turns out, slept with others! And, apparently, in Texas, treason is considered the primary mortal sin, otherwise how to explain the fact that Frank turns into the desert where Ryan kills.
Now you need to quickly finish the witness (or rather, the witness). But that wasn't it! Karen runs away and ends up in a research facility where a young scientist conducts experiments on time travel. He recently successfully sent a rat into the past. And Karen begs to help her get rid of Frank: the girl needs to go back in time.
A moment later, she travels along the Chronos River, twenty minutes earlier.
As you can see, the plot here is incredibly twisted and driven! Constant attempts to prevent Frank's atrocities do not let you get bored, you are sitting with ' jaw on the floor'.
I don’t understand people who talk about the plot. I haven't seen anything like it. On the contrary, I want to thank my fellow writers (there are three of them here) for such an original and twisted story!
Actors. First of all, Kylie Travis is very beautiful. Second, she's a great player. Third, did I say she was incredibly beautiful?
What the hell did James Belushi do? For this role, he was supposed to receive 'Oscar' No, this is not a biopic about minorities, and ' stupid' fiction category B. So forget about 'Oscar' Maximum, nomination on 'Saturn', a - ha - ha!
He did not play brilliantly in his role. It’s like shooting Mikhail Galustyan in 'Gruz 200' and in the title role... That is, James is so cool that ' removed ' from such a familiar image of a comic character, and ' put on ' the image of a bloody killer. Not every actor will be able to do that, I’ll tell you (I’m talking about comrades who star in different movies with the same facial expression). From film to film... But Belushi could, he turned out a real devil! Of course, with Rutger Hauer he can not compare, but Frank is incredibly cool, honestly.
And also about Frank: I don't understand why everyone says he was originally a psycho. After all, before he found out the truth about Ryan, he was rude, but completely normal! Typical village humlo who likes to drink after work, and to poison indecent jokes in the company. Something went wrong when he decided to kill his wife. But I can't call him an absolute psycho. He's not the Traveler from the 1986 film of the same name. There was a real scumbag, a devil with incredibly beautiful eyes. . .
Action. The whole movie is one big, dynamic action scene. Every second they shoot, explode and kill. Such a movie could be made only in the nineties. Small budget - Ahhh, don't make me laugh! I don't feel it here, although it's really not big. The film is only an hour and a half, and the action is there for a two-hour film. Every second literally 'breathe' adrenaline and drive! It is physically impossible to get bored!
Result: 'Time Failure' far from being the most popular time travel movie. Nevertheless, the film is one of the best representatives of the genre. It has a philosophical connotation about whether we have power over time, whether we can outsmart the bony and change anything. Or will all efforts be in vain and cause only more victims?
In the film, a high-quality action, which translates ' Failure in time' into the category of extra class militants.
Belushi played in ' Failure' his best role (fans 'K-9: Dog Job' sorry). He doesn't play here, he lives on screen.
So, if you have not seen this masterpiece (and most likely it is), then I highly recommend you to watch! You will not regret it!
Good luck to everyone and watch a good movie!
P.S. & #39 I haven’t been here in a long time. I forgot what Texas humour is.39

Karen, sitting in the car of the abnormal guy Frank (James Belushi), got through his fault in a difficult situation and barely saved her life, hiding from Frank running behind her in a secret laboratory, where a young scientist invented a wonderful but weak time machine: a complex unit was capable of short-term temporary movements. Rejoicing at this situation, Karen decided to make her first time travel (20 minutes ago) to try to prevent the terrible consequences of her acquaintance with a madman. But the second time more people died than the first.
This fantastic thriller is divided into several novels related to each other by one storyline. After each temporary jump, events develop according to a slightly different scenario - a consequence of other actions of the main character.
And in the process of viewing there is some not very pleasant bewilderment: was it so difficult to realize that in relation to people like Frank, you can not show even the slightest signs of any interest and attention?
The scene of the picture is the state of Texas, famous for its endless desert plains, blue sky and bright burning sun. It may not be Texas, but it is the South. This gives the film “Time Failure” a special charm. In general, all films shot in subtropical and partly tropical states look more profitable than tapes, which are not destined to shimmer with the whole range of graceful colors of the American south. And the road orientation adds its romantic notes and thus consolidates all the advantages of the film “Time Failure”.
The role of inadequate Frank is a very bright and interesting image of James Belushi, an actor with a multifaceted role. To my surprise, the film is on my favorite list. And therefore, even taking into account some shortcomings and blunders, I cannot put below ten points.

A pleasant discovery was the creation of Louis Morneau, who has long been on my list of middle-hand directors. Basically, it is. But, nevertheless, this director is still able to captivate the audience with a narrative. If in the sequel to the road-movie “Wow, the Journey 2: Death is ahead” (2008), Louis Morneau neither shaky nor Valco brings the story to the end, then in his early production of “The Failure in Time” (1997), he is much more inventive and quickly savours every action scene with explosions, shootouts and hand-to-hand fights. It is amazing how the secondary picture absorbed so much good and how catchy it combines the genres of “fighter” and “fiction”. Its B-movie status only seems valid on paper, as Time Failure is cool for its modest budget. I dare to note that some elements of the plot borrowed the author of the remarkable Spanish thriller “Time Loop” (2007) Nacho Vigalondo.
A typical blonde beauty in black sunglasses named Karen (Kylie Travis), while driving a car and scrolling through the costs of the past in her cute head, sharply stumbles upon a “stop frame” in the form of a large truck and in the last seconds pulls off the road. "Oh my God!" What do we do? I forgot to turn off the iron at home. No, no, it's just my improvisation, our Karen isn't a full blonde. And so, after experiencing stress and a broken car, she has to catch a ride. And how ironic that it picks up Frank (James Belushi), outwardly resembling a drunken all happiness, under the sunset of a career a little fat, angry but still cheerful Elvis Presley with these long sideburns. And this Uncle Frankie turns out to be such a fierce scumbag that Karen goes on the run and gets to the station with a time machine, which is located somewhere on the outskirts of a desert road in Texas.
How does James Belushi see his enemies? A very bright negative hero turned out in old Belusha. And it covers all the faults of mediocre colleagues. Jokeful, wild, uncouth, rude, smiling, cruel and uncompromising bastard of the highest class. Against his background, the rest of the cast pales, including the luscious main character. The only thing slightly annoying in this film, it is occasionally flickering in the frames blurred sloumo, which allegedly shows the movement of the characters in the time continuum.
In the end: a dynamic thriller and action movie, with a science fiction screensaver. The plot, albeit very simple, but twisted to the maximum and from the project, we can say, squeezed everything possible. Of course, the painting has its flaws, not without it. But in general, I certainly recommend this juicy picture to most people, as it will surely find its admirers among a wide audience.
Do not be rude to those who are cooler than you, you are in Texas.
A huge heat of passions, a strongly strained atmosphere, a surge of various emotions, fear - all this is in the film "Time Failure".
The film begins in a rather primitive, not interesting episode in the laboratory, when they conduct an experiment on rat number 13. Pretty boring scene, the fault of which almost switched the film.
But with the appearance of Kylie Travis in the frame, the situation changes. Because there's a pretty girl there. And just for the sake of watching it, you can watch the movie. But there is a mistake, much more pleasant to look at a chic girl who also plays chic, so much so that you believe her every gesture, word... And fortunately, this is exactly the actress that is pleasant to look at both appearance and play.
I didn’t expect James Belushi to play this game. It is difficult to explain in two words, easier one: crazy! The most natural psycho, such a precise game I have never seen. I would give him an Oscar for this role, really worthy!
In general, I will not delay... The film is great, it is recommended to watch.
It does not look outdated, it is relevant even now.
What would you do if you could go back in time? A unique opportunity to correct your own mistakes and make your present much happier, more beautiful and glorious? Perhaps not many would refuse such a glorious opportunity, but not always it can lead to positive results. What the director Louis Mornault demonstrates in his film.
The topic of time travel is not new to cinema. A decent number of films on this topic have been shot and they all demonstrate their approach to this topic. Anyway, they all center around the fact that any interventions in the past almost always end up in a bad way. This is what the creators of this film relied on when creating the picture.
The whole story comes down to a full-fledged journey through a time loop. When the same characters are forced to experience the same events over and over again. At the same time, the stronger the intervention in the past, the more terrible the consequences of the present are and all this is clearly performed in the best traditions of the genre. Allowing you not only to feel the layers of the whole story, but all the faces of a few screen characters.
Inspired and following the precepts of “The Traveler” with Rutger Hauer in the title role, the director of this film “Louis Mornault” fully realizes his film as a road and desert action movie. Focusing exclusively on the abundance of chases, shootouts and other entertainment. All this, frankly forgetting about the very concept of the atmosphere as such. The atmosphere of tension and dynamism in the film is certainly there, but it is not enough to make the film look much better and more interesting. Thus, in the breaks between movements, giving several reasons for boredom.
The main feature of the picture is the presence of James Belushi in the image of the main negative character of the picture. Let a little eccentricity and a kind of comic in the image is present, but in general terms Belushi appeared in an absolutely unexpected role. Moreover, it is his distraught hillbilly who makes the film far better than it is. All the other actors were easily sidelined. Including the lead role Kylie Travis.

Failure in time is not a bad film on the theme of time travel, which combines elements of several genres at once on the screen - action, fiction and thriller. Let it be far from any ideal, but it definitely looks very interesting even with reusable viewing.
You can safely recommend this film, directed by Louis Mornault, to all fans of the films a la Groundhog Day and Edge of the Future, where the tautology of events turns into a local spectacle of actions, the cyclical periodicity of which contributes to colossal interest and excellent suspense. Yes, some scenes looked “behind the ears”, and moreover, little plausible, but it did not affect the overall synopsis and the grandiose pleasure that you get when watching tapes with data, albeit pseudo, but a science fiction message.
The plot revolves around a nice person, and even a psychologist, Karen (Travis) , who due to an accident on the road, in the middle of a desert highway in Texas, gets into a good old Chevrolet to a very strange couple - a silent passenger Rayanne (Wirri) and a chatty psychopath driver Frank (Belushi). After a short journey, staying in one of the highway shops, where Frank is a regular, he learns that Rayanne cheats on him and immediately goes with the ladies into the desert to put a bullet in one for treason, in another, as a witness, but Karen manages to escape and escape in a secret US government base, where a local scientist sends her accidentally twenty minutes ago.
The charm of the film, as I said above, is in its cyclical nature, where the heroine will replay the whole story several times, using as much as possible all the secondary characters from the hapless policeman to the boy who accidentally passes with his parents to stop the killer of a psychopath. Speaking of the killer, who performed magnificently, who would have thought it, the eternal comedian James Belushi is a great role, a direct find of the director, the villain from the good-natured detective Thomas Dooley came out quite tolerable (although in reality everything was quite the opposite, since this film was released earlier K-9»).
Vericting the film "Retroactive" first of all, I want to note a rather interesting plot plot, which consists in the cycle of repeated events that appeal to my preferences, from the fact that the film looked in one breath and flew by suddenly.
This is a great movie! I just watched it and am very impressed. How do I feel? A tense atmosphere. I'm still there in the movie. What am I worried about? Viewed scenes, or rather, the situation, each of which in its own nightmare and with a share of hope, in which the central characters change: Karen, then Frank, then the policeman, then the creator of the time machine Brian, then the family with a boy, then Frank’s wife Ryan.
I can’t say “actors are great” just because it’s too boring and dry. What game? It was really a movie and it was played. I was probably 20 minutes back and the game hasn’t happened yet because I don’t remember it. I saw reality, the claimed science fiction, adventure reality, and in it – real people.
A rich experience of James Belushi. He wasn't just a psychopath. (The role is much more complicated.) Just a psychopath – this is from “Traveler” (by the way, the views in both films are similar – endless, dangerous, secretive landscape with the same type, as if Australian vegetation; only there is California, here – Texas). Frank has no intention of killing in this movie. But his intemperance, to put it mildly, only leads to murder. It even keeps you more stressed: a fellow traveler just kills the one who meets, and you can think and guess how much sooner or later, and this type is more unpredictable. Frank's goals: stop at a shop, get a beer, get money from a friend in that store, and even earlier there was a story about chips that are needed for a time machine.
I also like the development of this character. Rapid, as well as his hysteria and anger. At first, he gives the impression of a slightly unstable, but still tolerant man. He even jokes, even if his humor is peculiar, cynical, somewhere smells of sexism. I remember that joke. Original:
These are my women.
- Bigamy is illegal.
- That's why I'm not getting married. I follow the law.
After the act, it becomes clear to the cop how Frank “obeys” the law. And the further into the forest, the more wood.
Freshly submitted ideas are traced
Changing the course of time can lead to even more disastrous consequences than they were originally.
Where there should be death, there will always be death.
There is a nuance about the first: to understand this, Karen had to go through all the circumstances. She could correct the error only after the mistake was made several times. So her actions are not in vain.
I'm proud of Ryan's bravery at the end of the film. But why, why didn't Karen step in to help Ryan? Probably out of fear that if she talks to a cop, something else in time will go wrong. But then there was no longer a major problem.
Let me go back 20 minutes when I started writing the review. Better, 30 minutes. I'd like to change the ending a bit.
The possibility of traveling in the space-time continuum is one of the most exciting topics. Perhaps there is no person on Earth who at least once in his life did not ask this question and did not imagine himself a time traveler. Millions of written pages, thousands of kilometers of film, years of fruitless dreams and terabytes of traffic on specialized sites – people dreamed, dreamed and will dream of the impossible – about time travel. Well, what's wrong with that? This is a very exciting experience.
"The Failure in Time" is the finest hour of the little-known director Luis Morneau. Neither before nor after this film, he failed to shoot anything more or less useful (by the way, the original title of the film Retroactive would be more correct to translate as "Previous Action", or "Previous Action", but Russian translators / distributors again cheated, and this time, in my opinion, quite reasonable and justified). The movie really turned out well. And the merit is not only in the win-win of the chosen topic, but also in the chosen means of its implementation. Morneau didn't do the trick. He did not build complex plot constructions, consciously excluded psychological delights, cut off any reflections on the scientific basis of what was happening and issued a refined action in which there is a minimum of dialogue and a maximum of murders. At the heart of all this ugliness is a simple, like an orange, idea: it is useless to argue with Destiny and all attempts to change what happened lead to even worse consequences. There's always a loophole, though. And the final picture, in this sense, looks like a sly wink of the authors: the planned, of course, will be fulfilled. Make no mistake. The question is, who will be the victim? .
It cannot be said that the film "Time Failure" has become a milestone, or notable phenomenon in the world of cinema. "Time Failure" is a good popcorn action movie, without any moralizing and abstruse nonsense. And I like it when the movie matches its face value. It's just a bit of a shame for James Belushi. In my opinion, the role of psychopath Frank is one of his most memorable works in cinema. But the film did not manage to gather a large audience, so few people were able to appreciate the performance of Belushi.

Under the bright sun of the Great American Plain, a violent crime occurs at a lonely, wind-blown gas station. These chilling events take place in front of Karen, the companion of a man who turned out to be a ruthless killer. Fleeing from his pursuit, Karen returns to the past again and again, but only 20 minutes ago to prevent the murder. One killer! One witness! One chance to escape!
I bet half of you haven't seen this movie and the villain doesn't know that. No way. A dashing plot, permanent action, a great villain. That merciless killer is an ordinary at first glance crook, girding more and more with each return of the heroine to the past (you have to return, because with each attempt to correct the past, it actually gets worse and worse). This belting, the consistent flight from all and all coils to a new round of overwhelming, was played by Belushi simply virtuoso. His villain is very earthly and real, alive as life - if you meet, even on the street, at least in the theater, Hannibal Lecter, and with such boys I drank beer many times.
At the end of the tape, he becomes the personification of infernality, a kind of absolute evil - and here you believe him, because you know how terrible the average person is, and what can happen if, as a result of a life shake, the gut undisturbed by civilization comes to the surface. Perhaps, this is one of the most philosophical film villains, shown without the slightest melodramaticity and falsehood. For him, the wonderful actor Belushi, better known as a kind policeman with a dog, the respect, of course, the greatest.
With each new displacement, the number of innocent victims of the bloody showdown of a tough girl and Frank increased intensively. And after another unsuccessful attempt to stop the cycle of senseless deaths, the blonde eventually dawned on a gratifying thought: what if not to mess with this bandit at all? .
This adventure-fiction thriller is divided into several novels related to each other by one storyline. After each temporary jump, events develop according to a slightly different scenario - a consequence of other actions of the main character. In the process of viewing there is some not very pleasant bewilderment: was it possible after the first skirmish to realize that in relation to people like Frank, you can not show even the slightest signs of any interest and attention. That’s right, but on the other hand, if Karen had seen her biggest mistake right away, there wouldn’t have been a movie.
The location of the picture is the state of Texas, famous for its endless desert plains, blue sky and bright burning sun. All this gives the tape “Time Failure” a special charm.
The film itself, oddly enough, is on my favorite movie list. And therefore, even taking into account some shortcomings, I cannot put below ten points.
