Russian American Film This was the first time I saw this movie on television, not from the beginning. I didn't know who the director was. I just wanted to see Whoopi Goldbeg and Belushi. It was a great pleasure to watch.
A glossy, energetic America, which even shows the war in Vietnam with bright colors and with beautiful people (for example, Forest Gump), turned inside out. Unpresentable shops, dead cars, a brothel resembling a large barn – absolutely atypical sight. Of course, we can say that each country has its own backyards. But even people here are "normal." Not a single Hollywood face, ugly or pretty – they’re all mundane.
I had the impression that I had seen a good Russian film. And when I found out that the director is Konchalovsky, I thought: this is a man! Not to adjust, try to blend in and mimic, but to make your own film in Hollywood is an act.
Belushi's homer is very touching. The actor was not afraid to look physically ugly, adding his touch to the overall “ugliness”.
Whoopi Goldberg is fantastic. I think Andy is the best work of this actress. Express emotions only with the eyes - aerobatics, unusual for Hollywood actors.
And one more touch. We’ve all seen a lot of movies where the hero knows he’s going to die. None of them remember the soul or its preparation. Only in the film Homer and Andy, the heroine confesses to the priest, albeit ridiculously, "not according to the rules." Thinking about the soul is Russian again.
And, although the film was made for a long time, it is still very pleasant to see it.
