A great film adaptation not gained fame He first encountered this miniseries around 2000, buying the full trilogy on VHS. Well, the movie made a strong impression on me. I can’t think of this as a series. I think the concept of film is more appropriate. Yes, there are some parallels with my favorite “Godfather”, but in general they are completely different paintings, although both are based on the novel of the famous Mario Puzo.
“Trilogy” turned out to be quite exciting, looks with interest and in one breath. The series is very dignified and exciting, so you can safely watch it in one day. There is no feeling of fatigue when watching. There are no complaints against the director, as well as against the writers. Even though the picture was shot in TV format, it looks more than decent. There is no sense of cheapness when watching. Very well shot. The series has it all: interesting love lines, concepts of family, loyalty and honor, shootouts, gambling and of course the Sicilian Clericutio family itself, with all its codes of honor. The mafia's connection to show business is also shown. In general, the spectrum of influence of the “family” is shown very broadly and interestingly.
I was disappointed in the casting first. Danny Aiello is a great actor, but he was not suitable for the role of Don Domenico Clericutio. He could not create a strong, memorable image. At the same time, the fault is not in the director or writers, but in Aiello himself. There was a certain undermatch and lack of charisma of the real Don. His character is one of the key characters. I didn’t like Daryl Hannah as Athena. I never considered her beautiful, and according to the plot of Athena, a woman of indescribable beauty.
But there are also heavily played characters. I really liked Joe Mantegna’s performance, and his image of Pippi De Lena, a devoted “Punisher” family. Joe looked chic, convincing and, not least, charismatic (by the way, Mantegna perfectly played Joey Zazu in the cult “Godfather”). His character wants to empathize with the whole film. And of course, Rory Cochrane, in the role of the “rogue” family – Dante. A man with a very difficult fate. A very strong role. He's got 100. These two characters are the strongest in the film. Also, perfectly coped with the roles of Jason Gedrick, playing the central character of the entire saga - Cross (the future Don of the family), Conrad Dunn, as a "soldier" Lia Vazzi and David Marchiano as the eldest son of Don Clericutio - Fabio. However, did not like the fact that the series covers the period 1964-1993, and for the entire period Fabio remained as it is.
I didn't like the soundtrack either. Usually, there is a melody in the head associated with a certain picture. After watching this, no melody was remembered. Sometimes it even seems that there are no soundtracks in the film at all.
I would love to put 10 on the film, but 10 is the ideal for me, without a single drawback. There are flaws in this film. Not much, though.
9 out of 10
One of my favorites. The film should not leave anyone indifferent, let alone fans of films about the Sicilian mafia, which I am. It's a must see.
