The best gift is a book. "Lord of the Pages" began to watch only because of Macaulay Culkin, without even reading reviews or really describing. Except that I knew before watching that this was a “cartoon in the film”, and I saw few such projects. Despite the average reviews of critics and failure at the box office, I definitely liked the project, unlike friends with whom I watched it.
The main reason for the negative attitude towards the "Lord" on the part of viewers is absolute ignorance of literature in principle. The film is based on three genres: adventure, fantasy and horror, which, when moving from film to cartoon, come to life and become full-fledged heroes. Throughout the picture, read (or at least heard the corner of the ear about the presented works) the viewer plunges into the real and exciting world in the country of literary heroes.
I looked with special interest at both the books on the shelves (for example, Cinderella) and guessed the heroes of the novels, of which there were many! Among the most memorable can be called White Keith Moby Dick from the novel of the same name by the American writer Herman Melville, the pirate John Silver from the imperishable epic Stevenson "Treasure Island", and an insert from "Gulliver" Jonathan Swift (the episode when the Horror lies, opened, pulled over with ropes), and called the heroes "Baskerville Dog" Arturo Conan Doyle. I can't tell you everything. With such “solyankas” I rarely meet in the movies, so the cartoon is especially valuable.
If we talk about Macaulay himself, this role is definitely not the boy’s finest hour, especially after the roles in the comedy Home Alone. Unlike Kevin, his Richard here is a frightened nerd boy who has nothing to do with the actor’s previous hero.
Total: is not a masterpiece, but a great educational cartoon film for the whole family. The main advantage of viewing is the urge to read, and it will definitely appear.
