Dark places I decided to watch this film after reading the synopsis, as well as seeing who is starring. But I was a little disappointed.
Synopsis
If you think that a criminal couple will harass the owner, hoping to get his money, and the owner himself will not be a simpleton and / or traps are waiting in the house - you are mistaken.
The owner will die at the beginning of the film, but you will have to deal with his heir, who, by the way, is not the devil in the flesh, but an ordinary Englishman, however, with his own interests.
Since the events that will happen are based on history, what happened before, there will be flashbacks. But the story itself will not be dynamic.
Actors
Christopher Lee. I don't think we should introduce him. But unfortunately, in this film, his talent (I believe) is not fully revealed. This is because he plays the role of a fraudster.
But if he played the role of the owner of the house... Or someone else who needed to exercise power. But there is. I believe that the role he played was not for him: there was little screen time, and there were very few dramatic moments for him.
Joan Collins. I'm sure you know her, too. If you do not know, remember the Dynasty.
And here, in our film, too, I think Joan did not get her role.
Look for yourself. The actress plays the role of an unmarried woman who offers the services of a housecleaner to fool the new owner and find hidden money. We know this almost from the beginning of the film, there are no secrets here.
The secret is, who would actually believe that a woman with Joan's looks and manners would dust and revenge the floor? Arnold Schwarzeneger in the role of “I’m an ordinary muscular guy, working with a jackhammer” and it was more convincing.
No, I don't doubt Joan's talent. But that's not her role. Sarah, played by Joan, should logically be played by a woman, seemingly simple, but pretty, with the manners of not a duchess, but a woman from the province, brought up, but, of course, with modern views on life.
That's when you can believe that she really needs the job of a housekeeper and waving a broom and a rag for her is a common thing.
Robert Hardy, whom I know from other films. He played, in my opinion, very well. And two different roles. Edward, the owner of the house in his youth and Andrew, the new owner of the house.
Two roles, two different characters. Moreover, even in the role of Andrew, he played two almost different roles well (how? see in the film).
I can't find anyone else.
The film itself is going slowly. Great Britain has a great English charm.
The end may surprise you a little with a twist. But the plot twist is not particularly impressive. Rather, the logical conclusion of history.
And yes. Some moments in the film are not explained. That is, after viewing, you may have questions “Why?” and “For what?”
A good film to pass the time, a little tickle the nerves, who is not spoiled by modern thrillers and dream about life in such a house.
