If you find the treasure, you will pay, and if you do not, you will pay. Gold. A precious metal that has destroyed more lives than it has saved. For centuries, people have killed their own kind just to possess it. But how far does the power of the yellow idol extend, and will we also betray and kill our neighbor for a piece of gold? Absolutely. So this is a "precious find."
An alternative future. Humans, cyborgs, aliens and other “Cthulchites” live in a relative world. There is no centralized government in the galaxy, and the point is ruled by money, to be exact, gold. And a group of motley adventurers go in search of a planet with deposits of this precious metal. And all would be nothing, but in the team no one trusts each other and at the first opportunity is ready to stick a knife under the ribs of his neighbor. Don’t worry, it will be an interesting trip.
Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? I have already decided that the film will turn out to be good, and the low ratings of this film are just a pathetic misunderstanding. But the first ten passed and the film began to slide smoothly into such a cesspool that you can not dig with a bulldozer. And perhaps the weakest part of the story is not even the plot, which even though the stars from the sky are missing, but has the right to life, but the characters of the picture, their history and what they need from life.
So, the main character Ben Ratcherford performed... so, who is this guy? Have you heard of an actor like Harold Pruett? You heard? I didn't hear either. But he starred either in TV series as extras or in unknown films. You can see why he’s not an actor. No, it's not that he doesn't play well, it's that he doesn't play well. The young man goes through the whole film with the same facial expression, and will sometimes open his mouth to give out the memorized text. But that's not even the worst thing about Pruett's heroes. And the worst part is that the writers did not bother to prescribe his character. So we know that the hero lost his parents during the attack, some raiders there, and Ben is not particularly worried about it. He generally mentions this fact as if casually, so that you can screw the storyline with the raiders. Next, the hero buys a dog from an evil and greedy merchant. The question is why? In the wonderful cartoon "Golden Ring" not only that caring for animals was part of the character of the hero, so it was in essence also a plot move, and then Ben buys a dog and ... and that's it? Really? That is, the creators just had to somehow kill time, and they came up with a leading story with a dog? Smart. Very clever. And the last thing that ends up in Ben's character is his "golden nose." I know the future is here, but can you explain how it works? Implants, mutations, blood of the gods? I can also say that I have a nose for bricks, and therefore I have not yet fallen on my head. But one thing will dodge bricks, and quite another to find on a desert planet deposits of gold. This is something on the verge of fantasy.
As for the other actors, Rutger Hauer, Bryon James and Joan Chen are good and quite talented actors, but in this film they resemble not living people, but a kind of advertising of the film. Look, we have a fellow traveler, a Twin Peaks girl, and a guy who always plays psychopaths! You love these actors, don't you? Oh, then you'll definitely watch this movie, right? And this trick really works, that's just looking at the actors and their faces on which the unspoken question froze - "How did I get here?", the characters become really sorry. Like Hauer, who plays a player and a paranoid in this movie. More precisely, he tries to play, but given the fact that the script was written by an amateur, Hauer looks and behaves not like a player, but rather like a clown. What about Bryon James, who plays an experienced old man trying to give wise advice to others. Can you imagine this actor in the role of an adequate, and what is the most important positive character? I can't either. Well, Joan Chen, it's kind of crazy on the road. The character of her character changes several times during the film for no particular reason. Here she is the cool captain of the ship, and here she is a frightened little girl. Then the captain of the ship and the little girl again. And at the same time, she has love with the main character, despite the fact that they are good if a couple of dozen sentences were mentioned during the entire film. But that's what the writer said, and so it will be.
As for the visual part, this is a nightmare. Not only is the cameraman confused with color correction and the film is dominated by yellow, so the action of the picture takes place in a world resembling Mars. That is, the scarlet landscape, multiplied by the curvature of the operator, give a picture from which soon begin to hurt the eyes and there is a desire to turn off this ugliness as quickly as possible.
There is a lot more to be said about this film. And the fact that in the film there are several “story guns”, which did not fire because of the lack of talent of the writer and director. There is no action as such in the film. All right, a couple of shots at live people and that's it. Fighter? Well, well. And the music that sleeps. And a lot more. So my advice to you, if you are looking for a good science fiction film, then look at Babylon 5, Firefly and Space Truckers, if you are looking for a good western about gold prospectors, McKenna’s Gold is perfect for this purpose, and Precious Find is a pathetic sight that can only take your time and give nothing in return.
