"Worker" - another film with Elvis Presley, filmed and released in 1964
For several years, the King of Rock and Roll played a hero with the same role - a simple charming guy who can not only stand up for himself, but also sing (song like 10 per film). This uniformity bore many (especially Elvis himself, who was filming without any enthusiasm). But the musical "Worker" still managed to surprise me (in a good sense of the word). And we are talking here about the character Presley - itinerant biker Charlie Rogers, who by the will of fate (and the actions of one inadequate driver) was forced to temporarily join the circus troupe while his motorcycle is under repair. With his actions and manner of speaking, Charlie resembles the hero Elvis from the 1961 film. "Savage": a rough, sharp guy who often fights. Maybe not the most successful move of the writers, but the film clearly stands out from the previous three years, and watching it because of the ambiguous actions of the guy becomes more interesting.
However, apart from the main character, it is difficult to find special advantages in the picture. The plot is simple and the script structure is damp. Suffice it to mention that the character of Leif Erickson almost the whole film is antipathetic to the character of Presley, but in the end changes anger to mercy for no reason (well, except that the film ends). And the main character comes to the aid of those from whom he left, as if by click. Some characters seemed altogether superfluous, or with a poorly developed storyline (for example, fortune teller performed by Sue Ani Langdon).
As for the soundtrack, it turned out normal, but typical of Elvis 60s. Some of the musical numbers in the film were "out of the question." But if we consider the record separately from the film (without linking songs to scenes in the film), then the attitude to the soundtrack can improve. In the end, the title track "Roustabout", which just sounded "Little Egypt" and "One Track Heart" are wonderful songs.
As for the crew, Elvis was lucky to once again work with the producer of the film Hal Wallis ("Soldier Blues", "Blue Hawaii"), as well as with the famous Barbra Stanwick (before that, the most "star" partner of Elvis on the set was Charles Bronson in the film "Baby Galahad").
In general, “Worker” gives the impression of not strong, but not so terrible film with Presley, which you can watch (and maybe even have fun).
