Paul Newman became a movie star quite early and began to get the most interesting and top roles. Usually he just created an interesting image, which was given certain plot frames (for example, “Prize”, “Paris Blues”, “Hud”, “Ombre”, “Fraud, “Torn Curtain”, “Sometimes a great idea”, etc.).
Yet, despite his many successful portrayals, Paul Newman did not often have the opportunity to demonstrate his mastery, to show the dynamics of human character. So it was in his best works “Billiardist”, “Verdict”, “Color of Money”, etc.
In the film “From the Terrace”, Paul Newman does not create a memorable image, he manages to play a very interesting role. On the screen he is perfectly opposed by Joan Woodward.
David Alfred Eaton is a young entrepreneur who does not count on the support of his father, a successful entrepreneur. Due to family tragedies, Eton strives to surpass his father’s success and he plunges into the world of business.
Proud and purposeful, step by step, he plunges into the world of money and power, wrapping himself in commitments and compromises. His life with his wife turns into a nightmare, but he cannot change anything.
His thoughts are captured more and more by another girl, soon at work he is blackmailed. Eton finds himself at a crossroads - any decision made will change his life.
The film is a bit sweet, however, it is very similar to Frank Capra films in style and very informative.
