Le juge et l`assassin Judge and Murderer is a 1976 French crime drama. This exceptional film by director and screenwriter Bertrand Tavernier turned out to be a difficult and delicate story. We see the trial of a madman who killed and raped many children, both girls and boys. Everyone is trying to get a confession from the killer. The judge himself begins to communicate with him to find out all the details of the brutal murders of this man, and the killer tells him several more of his victims, and where they are. In this historical, criminal history, we see a difficult relationship between the judge and the murderer.
This film is a gold classic of French cinema. The story of this picture is full of irony and drama. The irony can be traced between the delicate relationship between judge and murderer, and the drama in the actions and consequences of a mad, cold-blooded killer. The film will appeal only to those who love French films. The movie is atmospheric. In the plot there are beautiful, picturesque places. The era of that time is also shown believably, I judge by the costumes and dresses of the heroes.
The duet judge and murderer are played by two remarkable, French actor Philippe Noiret and Michel Garablu. Both of them I appreciate and respect, and in this film they played great. Philippe Noiret plays an eccentric, prime judge who still lives with his mother and listens to her in everything. He's a great, ironic actor, so he did a good job. Michel Garablu's killer is full of contradictions. His hero is insane, moreover, he is cold-blooded, and he radiates darkness from him. Against the background of all this, the attitudes of these characters were shown amusingly, and the whole storyline was held on this. In the female role it was nice to see a very young Isabel Huppert. This film is deeper than it seems at first glance, and all the credit to the director Bertrand Tavernier. All the murders are off-screen and we don't see them. The main aspect is thinking about the case and paying attention to the behavior of the killer. The film is definitely not ordinary, and it deserves attention.
Bon visionnage!
