Cinema of Georgia. A great legacy. Part 17. Not the most famous Georgian painting. But very bright, original and very strong in its perception. Director Merab Kokochashvili told the story of a simple, heartfelt and kind shepherd Sosan, he lives in harmony with his conscience, adores his cows and immensely loves his native places. Namely, he immensely loves his green valley, where he herds his cows and lives his free and happy life.
In this valley, geologists find a number of minerals, in the valley it is planned to mine them, but the farm is planned to be transferred to a new village, with all the amenities for people and a large farm for animals. Everyone takes it for granted, only Sosana opposes it. He instantly loses his inner mental balance and begins to collapse in his bright life. It is here, in the valley, that Sosana is happy, here he experiences joy from his work, from life in this white world, there is no other life in the wrong places for Sosana. Although he realizes that a new time is coming and that small and remote cemeteries are no longer profitable, progress is taking its toll. But to accept the loss of these places Sosana can not.
The tragic story is told very subtly and takes the soul largely because of the beautiful play of Dodo Abashidze, his Sosana played with great tear, he fully conveyed the tragedy of his character. His hero is endlessly sorry, you sympathize with him, you worry for him and regret him along the way. Sosana needed nothing but his cows, his valley and his family happiness. The tragedy of a man, conscientious and kind, who instantly lost peace and home comfort.
The picture turned out to be strong emotionally, there is very little music in the tape, there is practically no music. This gives a sense of even more tragedy and contributes to a stronger perception, literally forcing you to get used to what is happening. Whether Sosana will be able to cope with himself and make concessions, whether he will be able to do everything according to his conscience and what his heart tells him about this will tell the end of this touching and tragic tape. The film received a number of cinematographic awards by right. A strong Georgian picture, which will not be disappointed by viewing.
