A person realizes the value of the gifts of nature and the Supreme only after losing them - is this theorem correct? Very controversial. Especially in light of the fact that we are humans, rather strange and sometimes unpredictable creatures. This question tried to answer the painting by John N. Smith “Cool, dry place”.
The main character is a lawyer named Russell, who is performed in the future better known as a comedy artist, Vince Vaughn. But even here, in some places, notes of comedy slip, because of which the actor fits well into the general plot. That's just the actor playing here is not funny little, but a single father who has to bear a heavy burden. He is raising his preschool son, Calvin (Bobby Moat), whose mother left them all of a sudden. Having lost his job, Russell in no case is discouraged and tries not to lose his head in everyday life. All the time looking for new prospects Russell wants to build his personal life, remaining a good father. And when he meets young and sexy Beth (Joe Lauren Adams), things seem to start getting better. But suddenly a repentant spouse appears, with whom they have not even divorced. Now Russell is between two women, one with whom he once fell in love, and the other recently came together in a passionate Cupid. .
There are a few nuances here that I'm going to have to keep quiet about, because it's going to be a spoiler. But the mediocrity of John N. Smith’s painting clearly accumulates questions, rather than presenting vital answers. The first thing that catches the eye is the raggedness of the story presented. And when the film ends, I want to ask the question, “Well?” If the tape at least in the conclusion brought the proper tear, you could throw one point and call the creation a modest drama. But unfortunately, nothing like this viewer will not wait. For half an hour you follow everyday life, fury and problems at the household level. One of the highlights of the film is actor Bobby Moat. The boy is so perceptive in his childish naivety and naturalness that he outplays any actor in this film. The truth is, Vince Vaughn tried too. Considering that he is not a dramatic actor, he has shown quite acceptable results. Otherwise, there is no proper emotional component. You don’t really worry about the heroes, events are not able to shock or make you shed a tear. And the director's attitude, I tell you, is surprisingly cool. After all, if the director tried, even from such a simple plot, something could survive. In this direction, the Swede Lasse Hallström and the painting “What eats Gilbert Grape?” are excellent examples. By the way, also a film adaptation of the novel. I'm not even talking about Hachiko's story, which was amazingly played by the director. Just the theme of loyalty of the dog, but in what proportions and colors brought. And the painting “Cool, dry place”, the initial reasons are much wider. It was necessary to develop motives, to show the heroes from the other side, to discover new circumstances. But no, the creators of the painting “Cool, dry place” are content to rotate in four walls. But I'm going to put it all aside, and I'm going to ask you, why didn't you finish what you started? After all, there are several branches of the script that have not matured to their flowers.
In the end: well, a film of the middle echelon, which has little to boast. But the main drawback of this picture is the dismissive attitude to its genre.
