The low overall rating should not confuse you: Tom Jones is a truly classic comedy that has not faded over time. Easy, unobtrusive, but at the same time very sharp satire on English society of the mid-18th century. The main character, Tom Jones is an incorrigible womanizer, and despite the fact that he loves one girl, can not resist not cheating on her with a couple of others. But he is so good-natured, sincere, charming, harmless that he contains much more positive than his stiff detractors, and looks like a ray of light in their dark realm.
The plot accelerates gradually. At first, this is a very banal, but not without charm, pastoral narrative. But over time, things get more complicated, more complicated, and eventually, they turn into formidable nonsense. Things change very quickly, let's say you see a baby -- it's 20 years old, and so on. All the characters are colorful, colorful, although perfect puppets. Many very absurd, absurd scenes and transitions. Although sometimes even the heroes themselves turn directly into the frame, emphasizing the seriousness of what is happening, still England is shown very realistically. For example, a luxurious hunting scene, gambling and pointlessly furious.
The camera behaves disobediently, shakes, creating a sense of belonging. It's unexpected for a historical film that you expect to be old-fashioned. But it doesn't turn out to be that way. Watching it is fun, pleasant and does not bother at all. Unless the picture is oversaturated with action, up to the fact that closer to the end, you begin to ripple in your eyes. But, nevertheless, there are so many delightful moments, talented scenes, wonderful episodes here that more than enough for several films. Tom Jones is definitely my choice. And, by the way, the famous singer took a pseudonym from here.
