Around football... The film by the Scottish director Michael Davis “Match” can hardly be called a full-fledged comedy or sports drama – it is rather an opus about the lives of ordinary provincial Scots, with their problems, comic situations and bets. It is around the dispute, between two pubs, in which a good half of the inhabitants of a small town hang out and the whole plot is built. A bet that will be resolved by a football match and the winner will get everything: fame, honor and... a pub owned by rivals.
This creation looks quite easy and relaxed. The film is not loaded with meaningless dialogue, and will not drag on. To pass the evening in the company of cheerful and colorful Scots is quite possible, given that in different roles involved quite revered in Britain (and not only) actors (Ian Holm, Richard E. Grant, James Cosmo). Well, a small cameo of Pierce Brosnan at the end of the film finally fixes after watching a pleasant aftertaste.
