Seductive womanizer The play of the great Molière 'Don Giovanni or the Stone World' back in 1665, is widely known throughout the world. She is constantly given a new life in theaters, as well as in cinema. Now before our attention is the film adaptation of this play in 1998, shot with the cooperation of three European countries Spain, France and Germany.
French actor Jacques Weber gives life to this film. He sits in the director’s chair and plays the main role. Comedy is filmed in its direct genre, style and atmosphere. It is a European romantic, costumed comedy.
To be honest, this film once attracted my attention because of two actresses: the Spaniard Penelope Cruz and the Frenchwoman Emmanuel Bear. I was curious about this picture and immersed myself in it. After watching it, I want to say that the film did not like, and I will try to explain why.
Spain, seventeenth century. The nobleman Don Juan broke no woman’s heart with his charm and sweet words. He dishonored a lot of girls around the world, but one of them had defenders. His relationship with the nun has compromised her, and the girl's brothers are looking for a scoundrel to avenge her sister. Don Juan gets into a series of incredible events, and soon wants to settle down and get married. Can you believe what he says? . .
The main advantage of the picture are dresses and costumes. Everything here was at the highest level, so in this aspect the film has value. The second plus of the costume film was just Cruz and Bear. Two beauties of the actress played great, and it is because of them that you watch the film to the end. Both of them are respected actresses, and they give life to the film and somehow bring it to life.
And Jacques Weber failed this film adaptation, both as a director and as an actor in the person of Don Juan. I watched a couple of film adaptations about this character Moliere, and this is the most unfortunate. In the eyes of readers, Don Juan is completely different and not associated with this actor. Moreover, Weber plays dry, and somewhere and does not finish. He did not succeed in the role.
As for the direction, there were questions. Some scenes looked arrogant, and some were completely implausible. The film as a whole is crumpled and it lacked a breath of fresh air, a completely different view of the director. Jacques Weber would like to advise, or to make a film, or to play the main role, but in the meantime it turned out something dubious. The film was also disappointing.
'Don Juan' is a 1998 European, costumed, romantic comedy. The result, the film adaptation here turned out to be a kind of attempt, but personally I do not like this film. He does not catch and stuffs the viewer with something bitter, quite funny and not interesting. I tell the film 'no'.
