The film in the West is also known under the title “The Horror Star”, meaning “The Horror Star”, which as closely as possible emphasizes its plot plan, which tells about the already elderly actor of the horror genre, which has very eccentric manners, as if life is just another game in front of the camera, when collective images from the played horror films fully exist in reality. That is, he is quite easily able to kill a director from a new generation who does not respect his creative merits, and turn his own funeral into a whole show from a crypt, modified into an attraction with a galaxy of previously recorded television addresses to guests, as if broadcasting from the afterlife.
A similar role was assigned to a non-random person, and a veteran of cinema Ferdy Mayne (Ferdy Mayne), whose list since the 40s has about two hundred films, including the famous “Barry Lyndon” (Barry Lyndon) and “Dance of the Vampires” (Dance of the Vampires). Unspokenly, his character has much in common with the persona of the actor himself, at the same time, and with mandatory differences - Main did not kill anyone between takes, as is quite clear. Here he is already old, but the age of professionalism can not be a hindrance, on the contrary, somewhere adds the audience respect to the efforts.
This creep is a low-budget picture with a very simple scenario based on how a group of students of the acting faculty, who decided to have fun, kidnaps the body from the crypt of the deceased legend of horror, brings it to the house, has fun, and he takes it back to life to repay disrespect for his personality and, in general, dead people.
Therefore, a good half of the timekeeping is measured under a series of murders of children who rose from hell, using mysterious forces, ranging from telelekinesis with pyrokinesis and ending with the mystical flight of the coffin. In general, there will be no monotonous scenes, for which you can praise the work, which did not slide into a monotonous slasher wheelhouse with some cleaver on a generally predictable-built base. Perhaps, sound effects stand out especially when the sinister aura is thickened by long ghostly howls, indistinct whispers, ringing ultrasounds, creaking floorboards and door canopies. Sometimes a whole mix-cacophony is collected from the name, which helps to strengthen mysticism with an indiscriminate attack on the audience's hearing.
However, as mentioned above, minimal funds do not play into the hands, giving a simple sham. In addition, the main technical problem is the work with consecration, because most of the story takes place at night and in a dark house with an attic, when too much is inappropriately drowning in the depths of the blackness of the cameraman. Also, the absurdistic share characteristic of such films does not disappear to sculpt the strange behavior of the characters on the screen. Even discarding the fact with the ridiculous nodal idea of kidnapping the corpse of an idol by a group of guys who sat him at the festive table, who began to dance with him, there are absurdities in addition to this. By the way, in the shots of the dance, something was weakly perceptible in the impact on the viewer by the inclinations of the philosophical key of the common tandem of heroes: dead and bursting with life, unifiedly representing servants of the muses, with already faded popularity and in contrast to the still unrecognized youth, however, it is a pity not revealed by the director-screenwriter.
The final impression of the film will certainly not be admired because of the simplicity of the concept of the idea and execution: the visualization is weak, the characters are monosyllabic, not disclosed, sympathy does not cause their behavior, not knowing proper respect for the proper. At the same time, for fans of small little-known horror films, not burdened with a special plan, who have never been embarrassed by a restrained budget, collecting rare genre films of the 80s, it is pleasant to meet the presence of a very young Jeffrey Combs in the role of one of the students - can get a pleasant entertainment for an hour and a half, in no way pretending to be a masterpiece. The main thing is to know the specifics of the production in order to understand in advance what is prepared on the screen.
PS: In this film there is a curious reference for guessers, from the fact that the screen-fictional horror star is buried in a vampire cape and coat, as it actually happened, with a real-life idol of the genre Bela Lugosi.
