A wonderful picture with a very non-trivial plot. A thriller was supposed, but did it come out? It seems to me that we have a literally theatrical production of drama. The minimalism of the scenery (although they are very atmospheric), a small number of characters and a fascinating story that unfolded so many times in different directions that if the director stopped at different points of the narrative, the picture would be about different.
It seems banal, at first glance, the story of a serial killer who kidnapped a young woman psychiatrist and started a game of words with her, gradually turns into a fascinating psychological counteraction of the main characters, where the maniac does not cause fear, but ignites curiosity for his personality (the same as John Doe from the David Fincher film “Seven”). In a word, thank you to the writer and director for the fascinating hour and a half intellectual and aesthetic pleasure.
I will note the wonderful play of the main character performed by Dario Grandinetti. The actor coped with the role perfectly, having managed to create a convincing image of an intellectual killer with an unusual picture of the perception of the world. The “victim” of the maniac – Goya Toledo, who showed the strong play of a woman balancing on the verge of despair and hope, also played well.
It was interesting, of course, to trace the relationship of the killer and his mother, which the director touched only in passing, but we will use imagination and think it out ourselves. This is also exciting.
In short, “Words of a Killer” is a wonderful, deep tape worthy of such neighborhoods as “Silence of the Lambs” and “Seven”.
