A non-super disaster What’s important in any disaster movie? The feeling of danger and the disaster itself. Both in “Superfire” is available, but on the other side of the scales a whole pyramid of shortcomings. Trying to make the audience feel fear and empathy for the characters, the director makes one big mistake - stretches his film for almost three hours. That’s probably why he wasn’t on the big screen. And meanwhile, it could be arranged by removing from the plot an unnecessary line with teenage chemistry, especially since it practically does not intersect with the two main ones. Well, apparently the director thought it was too important.
The actors in the film are not the best either. The main character looks too uninteresting because of his lack of emotion. The real Kristen Stewart School. And since the character speaks, but does not depict his state, he does not want to sympathize. He's a hero or a loser, it doesn't matter. The same goes for many other characters. A group of schoolchildren, a lady from the former naval military, a squad of firefighters look boring, it is not interesting to watch them. There are only two actors who are trying. Wes Studi reliably shows an experienced fighter with fire, who has more than once been in alteration. John Noble walks around in the image of the fire brigade boss, preparing to soon take the throne of the viceroy of Gondor in the not yet released third part of The Lord of the Rings. Perhaps if Steudy and Noble were the main characters, the film would have been perceived as more exciting.
The fire itself looks very strange, in fact. Of course, I am far from physics, but if you glean the known information from the natural sciences, the explosions in the fire of an ordinary coniferous forest look too fantastic. The same is impossible and running fire stream, to feed which requires too high amount of oxygen. It is difficult to imagine that even in the Carboniferous period with its fern forests and giant arthropod inhabitants there were conditions for such fires. Whatever it is, there are some combustible materials that are not on Earth and was not in natural conditions.
“Superfire” was an unfortunate disaster, where a lot was done wrong. Some spectacular scenes with fire turned out well, but for the sake of them alone it is pointless to overestimate.
