Benefis Kirk Douglas I have not heard of the original source of this work, but the film came out alive and real. Of all the Lancaster-Douglas duets I've seen (" I'm Always Alone (1948), The Shootout at O.K. Corral (1957) and this film, respectively, stand out above all the magnificent Kirk Douglas. Against his background, Bert always looked flat, a kind of role of the hero-executor of justice, at the same time as Kirk was torn away completely, ironically playing either villains or antiheroes. So in this film, Kirk unconditionally takes first place, although absolutely the whole great three actors played perfectly. Burt has well shown the change of nature of his originally devout clergyman into a brave man who acts decisively and with a cold mind in difficult times. Sir Laurence Olivier is chic as a general, ending with a great monologue about the military mentality! And finally, Kirk. Darzit, grins, does not lose heart even before death (not spoiler) Excellent game! and it is his hero that you empathize throughout the film, as opposed to a fairly flat Lancaster. I had a lot of fun at the end. I recommend to all lovers of Good Old Hollywood and lovers of such great actors as Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas and Sir Lawrence Olivier!
