125 Montmartre Street It's banal. Trivial. Simple. Predictable.
But at the same time, we have a film with Lino Ventura. Even considering that this actor did not strain too much and it seems that he did not understand his character internally, the tape nevertheless attracts this.
To be fair, Jean Desaily made a much more successful appearance on the screen. His commissioner is smart and, for that reason, charming. He can take a risk and put everything at stake to fully solve the crime.
But before we meet Desaiah, we need to look through a little over an hour and get a feel for the boring life of a newspaper peddler. He is drawn to an encounter with a strange madman. The director shows us that Ventura pays more attention to a strange guy with suicidal impulses than to his beautiful lady (Dora Doll).
In my opinion, the key lies in the similarity of characters. In the desperation of the psychotherapist, the hero Lino saw himself as if a charmed wanderer he opened up before such a revelation. How not to be surprised if all his spiritual impulses have already been measured, weighed and evaluated.
The crime line that completes the tape is not so important. Obviously, Gilles Grangier added it only to distract the viewer. In the foreground is a portrait of a strong man who does not complain about fate, but manages to survive in the most difficult situations. Ventura reveals before us a true epic hero - open, honest, severe.
And if you were to calibrate the portraits of characters with a criminal line more accurately... If I could make the film more stylish, spectacular, musical... Be a masterpiece.
And so, alas... Separately unfolds the modest merits of the detective, separately tries Lino Ventura, separately - unfolds the drama of masks: an honest worker-depraved person-clown-commissioner (who, rather, plays the role of judge). It's all too disparate
PS What does the name mean?
Rue Montmartre is a wealthy area of Paris, and Montmartre is the highest hill in the city, the ascent of which is the pastime of many tourists. To ascend to Montmartre from the position of the hero Lino Ventura is to become rich, to achieve what this guy is so difficult.
But is it possible to stay honest and get rich for a simple man like him?
