Is life beautiful? Anyone who found something in common between the later film by Peter Domalevsky “Silent Night” and the work of Wojciech Smazhovsky catastrophic is mistaken. When compared from the supposed angle, it is obvious that Domalevsky’s film can be considered an ordinary Christmas movie. To understand what lies behind the word "smarzowszczyzna" (smarzowszczyzna) just "Rose" and worth a look. Such a depressingly powerful, drumming past, darkly realistic film I have not seen in a long time. When you think that the worst has already happened to the heroes and it can not be worse, events break another bottom in their lives.
Tadeusz, a veteran of the army of the Krajowa, from whom the war took the family under terrible circumstances, turns out to be in the Warmina-Mazurian voivodeship, fulfilling the last will of a dying comrade, returns her husband’s things to his widow Rosa. The man has nowhere to go and he decides to stay here, live a peaceful life, takes care of the woman, opening a new page of being by demining the field. It's just in 1945. And he settled in the territory that yesterday was German, and today with Soviet support is turning into Polish by force. Native Germans are evicted, Poles with Krasuv are settled in their homes. But the people who suffer most of all are the people of the nation in the middle, who are called Masurians here, those who do not feel themselves Poles at that time, and seventy years ago did not yet feel themselves Germans. Remorseless.
Rose gets three murderous blows. She suffers for her ancestry from everyone, for her daughter from a German father – from Soviet-Polish NKvdeshniks and, in turn, for living with Soviet soldiers – from those who consider themselves Germans. But the defenseless woman had no choice, no strength to resist the violence.
The worst thing is that in times of peace, Rose’s life only gets worse. It becomes more difficult for Tadeusz, who decided to share his life with her. The desire to just live has to be forgotten. Around this small family gathers the scum of the human race, leaving them no way out, finishing off. The lighter it seems the only warm colors and emotions fragment of the walk of a man, a woman and her daughter in a boat and a picnic. A moment of quiet joy and wide smiles in front of the most terrible...
Time is late, it's been an hour since I looked, and there's no sleep in one eye. It's hard to put up with the existence of such a terrible truth somewhere. And this music Tzaski - hammer hitting the nerves, the alarm is given in the head. It is interesting that approximately at the same time with the "Rose" come "My Happiness" Loznitsa in Ukraine and "Once upon a time there was one woman" Smirnov in Russia. All three films revisit the story and terrifying fate of an ordinary woman in a far from peaceful history. At the same time, three creative people from three countries turned to the past. Perhaps the moment of reassessment is ripe. There is no direct connection between the three pictures, but there is something more - a single information field filled with suffering, pain and hope for the persistent.
