- By the way, this neighborhood isn't the best. It's dangerous here. I hope you don't slip around the corner? The film begins with short snippets of Jennifer’s difficult life. Beating and violence by a partner, the birth of a daughter, followed by the rejection of the child, immediate departure to another city so that no one will find her or her daughter. Once in a new place, without a penny in her pocket, she falls to the bottom of the metropolis, in the society of local “nocturnal butterflies”.
Cinema, of course, is depressing. This is not a story about the cloudless everyday life of the cream of society. The pimp controlling the street, the policeman looking for a way to pin him down, the “flying butterflies” from the car into the car – this is the flip side of the nightlife in which Jennifer plunged headlong. As the narrative of the picture, the action remains uniformly pressing, but by the end of the heat of passions there is a place to be. The music is very much in the subject and has an additional necessary press on consciousness. The finale is hard, but bright, and for that I thank the director, by the way, the woman, who plunged me into Jennifer’s nightmares, she still took me out into the light of God.
On the screen, familiar and not very all faces, but naturally the main roles were played by Kari Wurer and Ray Dong Chong. Two different personalities, separated even by skin color, with such different fates, but found so much in common in each other and even more. By the way, Wurer demonstrates here not only the internal component, but also an excellent external one, although there are few nudities in a film of this kind and it looks like a light erotic.
Even when you have a lot of problems and despair rolls like a snowball, it is good that in life there are people who lend a helping hand. It does not matter what place they occupy in society. Perhaps they will not reveal the truth of the cause of compassion, but perhaps they will remember themselves in a similar situation and those who also helped them in their time.
Quite well-made crime drama, how profitable and different films in the nineties.
