Romy Schneider in the film by Michel Deville Michel Deville made a very unobtrusive, but very interesting story about the writer. A middle-aged man describes his adventures with women in novels. Soon reality and fiction cease to differ from each other.
Experienced and sexy heroine Romy Schneider and young and daring Jane Birkin – just “envelop” the hero and make him lose his peace. Against this background, monologues about the meaning of life and philosophy look very funny - Deville is a wonderful psychologist.
By the way, the narrative started by Deville is certainly correct - almost in the first scene the main character behaves too harshly and rudely in an intimate scene with Jane Birkin. After that, the viewer’s attention is secured. However, Deville did not intend to shoot an erotic drama, despite quite frank angles. Immediately remembered Romy Schneider, came on a date in a cloak (only in a cloak). In fact, this episode is displayed on the cover of the film, attracting the viewer with erotic overtones.
But hardly, the tape can be ranked as an erotic genre. Deville is too easy to slip into surrealism. The picture, unlike the same “Trans-European Express” by Rob-Griller, constantly teeters on the verge of light comedy, ironically playing many tense situations. Trintignan, traditionally playing the role of restrained French intellectuals, who are either “Lions on the Limit”, or “Raging Lamb” – restrained and not original. Another thing that Romi reveals is quite likely due to a duet with him.
In the end: slightly overestimated due to the bright acting of women - Romy Schneider and Jane Birkin. This unobtrusive story allowed you to enjoy the performance of Romi - she was in this film was natural (in the 70s in general, she has extremely few successful roles). Otherwise, a good, but lightweight work by Michel Deville
