Les portes de la nuit Unlike many modern films, the structure of the narrative in this film does not correspond to the classic three-act play. The simple plot is concentrated in constant dialogues, showing qualitatively different moods than in the “Mist Embankment”. If you can look for a “new wave” somewhere, it is here. We see resolute, self-confident people who are generous to each other, but do not tend to forget the sins of the past.
However, even when a traitor who cold-bloodedly surrendered his comrades to the fascists is accidentally revealed, we see not tooth for tooth, but moralizing conversations with instructions. Believe me, Marcel Carnet will have enough. The man will understand for himself, repent again. There is no place in this world.
There will be no pleasant flure of fog, daylight will symbolize a new life. The war is over. Some issues, mainly related to the past, will be decided at night, but the French will handle them themselves. For who was Marcel Carnet if not a patriot of his nation?
I can’t call myself a fan of this movie, most of which is about nothing. But the optimism, confidence in the production of the key episodes and their effectiveness pleasantly pleased me. As an additional bonus - an interesting cinematic duo Serge Reggiani and Yves Montana.
