Approved by CC CPSU Surprisingly, when I searched for this film, I didn’t find a single review on the search. This is a strange story, considering that even the fierce thrashak, which was watched only by the director with friends, there are reviews, and a very good film – no. I’m not going to tell you how I found this movie, you won’t believe it. I don’t like comedies, I don’t know the actors who were in this movie, and I don’t know why there’s no review here. I haven’t laughed so much from the movie in a long time. To shortness of breath, to colic in the stomach, and this, by the way, is expensive.
If we talk about the genre framework, this is most likely a parody of slashers, so most genre clichés like this are ridiculed. The maniac is deliberately slow, slow so that it will not be difficult to escape from him or when he goes to kill his victim, he scrapes his sickle very loudly and hits the walls with a hammer so that anyone would hear it. The film is filled with all sorts of references to some famous paintings, such as “Basic Instinct” and, accordingly, ridicule. The humor is quite absurd, in most cases, playing some genre clichés, but it is ridiculous. All the humor is clear from the first time, but the situations where the characters fall and how they behave in this situation are caused simply by fits of homeric laughter. Such films are very necessary for emotional unloading, simply because the smile does not leave the face until the finale, and there are plenty of jokes in the film, every minute something different degree of fun happens.
Briefly about the plot: at the Cannes festival there is a bloodthirsty killer one-on-one who looks like the killer from the film “Red is dead”, embittered at the cursed capitalist world to a commune. This and the comrade brutally kills all the film mechanics and those who did not hear him, always before their death they talk on the phone.
The film has three main characters. The press attache of the film “Red is dead” Odile Dire, bodyguard Serzh Karmazov (who, according to his own statement, has no brothers) and Serzh’s ward – Simon, who in the past played a major role in the aforementioned film. Each character in the film is clumsy and unsatisfactory, and Simon among other things begins to puke every time he is happy. I'm not going to talk about acting, I just had no time to pay attention to it.
The film is old, cheap, with almost no special effects (at least none of the murders were shown), but famously refers to the most high-quality parody films like “The Hot Gun” or “Airplane”. The humor is located throughout the film’s timekeeping so tightly that it is almost impossible to find a moment to take a breath.
Summing up, I report that the film “City of Fear” in 1994 is an incredibly high-quality, absurd, full of black humor parody comedy on all genre cliches of typical horror films about maniacs. It is really good to relax and laugh for an hour and a half.
