Wait, or Mom will kill! The 80s were rich in slashers about crazy moms. Starting from the famous Pamela Voorhees and ending with motley maniacs from the films of class B. This film "Murder in law" or as it is known to us "Murder in kindred" bright strong middle class films. The director was the debutante, a freshman of directorial courses. But you can see that the man worked very hard, worked with actors. Although the film is uneven and in the middle fails, forming plot holes. And we are not watching the development of the plot, but the narcissism of the mad old woman and her crazy antics. It would not hurt to introduce a few more characters into the film, the future victims of a mad killer. But apparently saved on the actors and all the most interesting saved to the end.
The whole film is based on the main character, and she is very, very colorful here. Leading actress perfectly copes with the role of a cunning, crazy woman. We are completely immersed in the world of her madness and even justify her bad deeds. She just wants to be good for her family. And he takes unnecessary people out of the way. Those who threaten the well-being of their families.
The film is almost bloodless. The nudity scenes are plot justified. So this movie can even be watched by the whole family and shown on television in the evening.
Among the actors of the film, the most famous is Emilio Estevez, brother of Martin Estevez and uncle of Charlie Sheen. He is not as famous as his relatives because he starred mainly in independent films and just where he wanted to play himself. He plays the son of a crazy old woman. His hero lives quietly with his family in the American suburb, enjoys a full bourgeois life and wears pink pants (!). But here allegedly from Paris itself, but in fact, his long-lost mother arrives straight from the madhouse. A kind of frankly insane kind. He is happy to death with the resurrection of his mother and even forgives her strange appearance and ridiculous antics because he loves his mother very much. Love, this is the engine of the film. And even the spoiled younger daughter of the heroes, despite her initial contempt for her newfound relative, is actually happy with her appearance and loves her grandmother very much. But the girl understands it very late!
Another plus of the film is that none of the positive main characters are distinguished. Everyone is given equal screen time and we can’t guess until the very last scenes who will fight the main antagonist at the end. So the ending of the film will be unexpected for many.
A very interesting find in the film is a bloody nurse. Although this is not know-how, but hello to Dawn of the Dead, which was attended by a similar zombie heroine. Even a pity that the image of a killer in a white coat is not particularly popular in pop culture.
There will be no sequel to the film. It was not intended, and not much needed. But the eponymous remake was removed in our time. This is not a half-forgotten movie.
So, before us is an unbanal, atmospheric, well-made and played horror film with a failure in the middle, but with a great and unexpected ending.
6 out of 10
Cons for irregularities, downtime in the plot, unsuccessful black humor like a pie in the face. And also for the ridiculous characters of the second plan, such as the Latin nanny, which I want to quickly withdraw from the plot.
