I enjoy watching various film almanacs, perhaps because I like short films. So this time I watched another Italian film almanac, consisting of three novels, "Complexes" / I complessi, 1965. As the name suggests, this is about human complexes.
The first novel, Decisive Day, was directed by Dino Rizi, starring Nino Manfredi. A shy employee of one company at one of the away company events decides, having overcome a number of obstacles inside himself, to tell his colleague that he is in love with her and even makes her an offer, to which she, in principle, agrees, but at the same time gives out her secret that she has been having an affair with another of their colleagues who is married for a couple of years. And then the problems begin, he manages to screw everything up and in the end he is taken away by another departed colleague, who, apparently, has long laid eyes on him.
The second novel, The Nubian Slave Complex, was directed by Franco Rossi, starring Hugo Toniazzi. Not very young figure Guido Beozzi, very clearly adhering to the requirements of morality, living, despite his position, emphatically modestly, married to his cousin, having three children from her and about to be born a fourth, suddenly accidentally learns that his wife once a few years ago starred in some action movie in the episodic role of a Nubian slave, where in one episode was visible her breast. He develops a stormy activity to try to hide this circumstance, especially since he has a namesake known as a playboy, and he has to fight back all the time so that they are not confused. At first, he is even lucky to learn that in Italy these episodes were cut out by censorship, but suddenly it turns out that the film was a joint with Egypt, and uncensored copies could get there. He makes a whole series of efforts, but in the end accidentally gets into a gay scandal, which he really has nothing to do with, he just wanted to take away the negatives that get into the press, and then the playboy-of-the-name gives a denial that it is not him.
The third novel, in my opinion, the most successful of the three, Guglielmo the Toothpaste with Alberto Sordi in the title role, was directed by Luigi Filippo d’Amico. On television there is a competition for the position of the host of evening news, the last round gets first 20 participants, then their number decreases after the next rounds. Guglielmo Bertone has a truly encyclopedic knowledge in literally all areas, knows several languages, and, perhaps, would pass immediately without any problems, despite the fact that other candidates are promoted by well-known personalities, but he has a slight drawback - a truly terrifying upper jaw with huge teeth, everyone believes that he is not telegenic because of this, but no one can dare to tell him about it. After going through all the thorns, Bertone still broke out to his stars, becoming a really popular presenter, no matter what.
The film is made in the same style of old Italian comedies that I can always watch, some of them good, some of them worse, but they remain interesting to me.
