Since the mid-1960s, Soyuzmultfilm has been releasing cartoons, the images of which even many years later look modern and very familiar: Vovka in the Trinity Kingdom, Ivashka from the Palace of Pioneers, In the Land of Unlearned Lessons. But the most striking example is the Flying Ship. I admit that musicals are my most disliked genre, because people tend to talk, not sing. As you can see, there are exceptions.
Unobtrusive songs, a good drawing and a rather interesting plot - all genius is simple, as they say. Revising the Flying Ship in the XXI century, you find some contradictions that are forgivable given the release in 1979. Princess Zabava strives for freedom from patriarchal attitudes, but at the same time dreams of a family in which the wife obeys the “working” husband. Perhaps this is the result of very strong clutches, in comparison with which even such a life seems paradise. Pipe cleaner Ivan (voiced by Mikhail Boyarsky himself), wears an elongated hairstyle, very characteristic of the 1970s, and completes this similarity with a specific soundtrack that could only be created in those days. The plot of “The Flying Ship” is as reliable as the Roswell incident (that is, impossible), but since we have a fairy tale, you can close your eyes to many conventions.
Anatoly Papanov gave us, perhaps, the most memorable image of Water with a recognizable voice and habits. "I'm a Waterman... “Who would talk to me?” If you are unfamiliar with these words, then your childhood can hardly be called complete. The song Babok-Jozhek, who live in a multi-storey hut - a real star number! His quote in "The Three Bogatyrs and Princess of Egypt" only confirms this. The Tsar is the funniest character whose oblique eyebrows and bald head will keep you entertained for a long time after watching. A Polkan who can buy everything is Zabava’s rather strange fiancé, but as a humorous antagonist, he also causes a smile. By the way, voices Polkan Rogwold Sukhoverko, who later will give his voice to Gandalf from the film trilogy "Lord of the Rings" .
Although I mentioned conventions, I can’t help but notice one strange thing that surprised me as a child: why is the tree that Ivan is cutting pink inside? It is not painted, not watered with any solutions, it is just pink. Magic? More like the laziness of the writers.
Naive in the old way, well-drawn and filled with pleasant songs, "Flying Ship" has become a real classic of domestic animation.

Many people remember this old Soviet cartoon. Still, at that time they were able to make instructive stories for children in an entertaining format. So I recently came across him on the Internet, and such warm emotions flooded me. The cartoon remains relevant to this day, I think it is possible, and even necessary to show modern children.
The plot begins with the fact that the Tsar (father) wants to marry the princess Zabava to the rich Polkan. But Zabava, of course, does not harbor any tender feelings for this man, in fact, as Polkan does for her, because the second only needs the connections of his father in order to multiply his fortune. At one point Zabava meets a simple guy - a chimney sweep Vanya. And he promises to get her out. Vanya proposes to build a flying ship. Funny, in turn, cunning - says that she will marry only the one who builds the flying ship. In fact, the whole storyline of the cartoon is wrapped.
It is worth noting that the cartoon is more like a musical, which adds to it even more charm.
In ' The Flying Ship' a lot of morality and hidden meanings. For example, one very simple truth is very clearly traced - happiness for everyone is his own. For some it is love, for some it is a crown, and for others it is money. And all this in 18 minutes cartoon.
I definitely recommend this work by director Harry Bardin to watch.
One of the favorite cartoons of the sunset era can still please with the plot and songs. The popularity of Watery’s song has already been blown, but the chunks of Yozhek’s knaps are a masterpiece.
When the cartoon was just settling in the hearts of the first viewers, evil tongues already half-seriously claimed that Bardeen had made skis in emigration, that under the veil of a romantic fairy tale there was an idea hidden from which the faces of the censors were made sour, as if lemons without sugar chewed along with the skin.
What do you say? Have you heard of plywood over Paris? Polkan first failed the lovers, then flew by himself. If you understand the plot, it will be nonsense. There are so many allegories in the cartoon that you drown in them, like Ivanushka in a swamp. But we'll try.
By the way, Bardeen is a shortened version of the director's surname. Married three times, the third time seems to be a success. And his hero Zabava carried away with the promise to provide a vehicle.
The most politicized version is that the partyocracy (Polkan) takes away the crown (power) from the king and there is nothing to do here now, it is time to fly to freedom. Forest and swamp scum (clearly dissidents) having an insoluble conflict of personal convictions with the doctrine prevailing in the royal palace, which does not lead to persecution only because Polkan has not yet got to them, help the people to get away. Whether the devil was insured against persecution and repression by the official authorities, is not known. But Polkan got, the old king was returned to his place, the youth left. ..
Anyone who doubts the ability of Bardin to shoot encrypted messages, let him appreciate his animated film “Conflict” in 1983, take into account the international situation, the mood in the USSR of “we are waiting for change” and the fact that the Union was only 12 years away from the finish line. Of course, no one knew how everything fell to earth, but something was already hovering.
For all the good this little movie with subtexts still deserves high praise, only for the choice of heroes reset a couple of points - good people do not run from the Motherland.

I remember this movie on a tape, in one of the collections. He was one of the most memorable and beloved.
I think I should talk about the plot and characters of the cartoon, everyone has known about them for a long time. I'll talk about something else.
Songs are remembered for many years, if for life. They are light, memorable and fervent. The composition “Ah, if my dream came true” is generally considered a masterpiece. Not to mention the Song of Water and the Witches.
The meaning is banal, but very necessary: Follow the dictates of the heart; that to win the heart of your beloved woman you will do anything, that hard work and kindness will still defeat deceit, greed and greed.
At the same time, everything is told in simple and pleasant language for both children and adults.
One of the best childhood movies.
Who is the “flying ship”, who is the power and the crown, and who is the love?
The good old Soviet animated film "Flying Ship", about which so much has been said-written and as much, and maybe more, I want to say. Harry Bardeen put a great cartoon, and at the same time he voiced one of the characters.
“Flying Ship” from the point of view of an adult is not ideal. But how much warmth, kindness, love. It has its own unique atmosphere. What a moral, how many hidden meanings. There is only one simple truth that happiness has its own worth: for someone, happiness is a crown, power, money; for someone, a warm shelter, a full dinner for their own child at any cost; for someone, love. All this in 18-20 minutes.
After such epithets, it probably even becomes interesting, and what it will not be ideal for an adult. It's simple: it's about the plot. Screenwriter Alexei Simukov simply transferred the basis of the fairy tale of the same name, greatly simplifying all the characters and their actions. But it can be for the best for children. The plot is not only naive, but also with a bunch of wonderful stupidities: a flying ship is being built “at once” or even there, is sold on every corner; water – kind and disinterested cheerful uncles who will easily help; Grandma Yagus – repulsed the sniff, either because of a big coven in the midst of it, or because Vanya finally changed socks and the Russian spirit and Rus no longer smells, or for other reasons ... and much more. But, personally, it did not prevent me from enjoying the atmosphere created by the cartoon and getting a charge of positive emotions when watching.

This musical cartoon is one of my favorite Soviet animated gifts. As a child, I watched this magical story many times, and remember all her songs by heart. This story turned out just wonderful. It takes us to the world of childhood, here good always triumphs, everything is imbued with magic, and love and honesty above all else.
We see the story of the trumpeter who wanted to be with the princess. They want to marry her, and the hero has little time. He sets out through dark forests and swamps to build a flying ship.
All the characters in the film are well thought out. They're all funny and like no one else. Everyone has their own song, which is impossible to forget. The cartoon is painted colorfully, and the Soviet animators tried their best, I want to say thank you for this.
"Little house"
Russian stove
Wooden floor
Shop and candle
And the kids.
There's an oraf in the house.
This is happiness!
Really funny!
For some reason, since childhood, I remember most water with his song. His character was so mysterious and incredibly sad. The group of witches with dances and chalets were simply gorgeous, and then and now it was very funny.
The main characters are always kind, and in the end, through all the difficulties, a beautiful final on a flying ship was waiting for them. Everything is fine in this story, it can be revised and revised over the years. This story is imbued with kindness and something pleasant and dear.
"Spread the harmonica fur "
Eh, play-navigate
Sing the chap, Grandma Hedgehog
Sing, don't talk!
I was so drunk.
And flew on a broomstick.
Oh, I don't believe it myself.
These superstitions!!
I walked home in the woods.
The hell with me.
I thought it was a man.
What the hell!
"The Flying Ship" is a Soviet, family, musical, fairy-tale cartoon of 1979. This animated gift for all times, I love and the youngest generation to watch. Thank you! Good mood and great movies!
“And let me build... a flying ship and we will fly away?” – a phrase that was familiar to us since a distant childhood and in which there was everything – freedom from all shackles, the love of life that is ready to share your dreams and aspirations and the amazing and indescribable feeling of flight, when the wind hits in the face, and in front of you waiting for other countries and cities. And the more surprising the release date of the cartoon is 1979. The times when no dissent was allowed and people tried to convince us that the USSR was the best country in the world, at least our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers told us this, and they knew what they were talking about, how they lived at that time, and not us. Although, if you think about it, many Soviet cartoons, and with them films, approached the thin line of what is allowed by censorship, and sometimes crossed it. The censors, and with them the government did not grudge or it was a cold calculation, they say that the citizens of this country can dream, but having plunged into films, and being in real life be kind to do what is required of you and do not complain. Something tells me that the second option is still true, but with certain conventions, which I will talk about some other time, but for now I will go to our guest today. So this is the Flying Ship.
The story that will be told in the cartoon will be shown through the eyes of four characters and if so, let me introduce them. So the first hero is the King. A gray-haired old man who reflects on what he will leave behind. Yes, of course, the king of this cartoon is quite simple, but he is not without charm. After all, the old man wants to arrange the life of his beloved and, as far as we know, only daughter, and also that his kingdom has an heir. But the trouble, the wayward daughter of her father does not want to listen and dreams not of continuing the royal family, but oh... the king does not think about what his daughter wants and does not try to put himself in the place of his daughter, he thinks how it will be right for the kingdom. In fact, it's a pretty typical situation in the world, yes.
The second character is the cunning, arrogant and self-confident merchant Polkan, for whom there are only two truths in this world - money and power. If so, he will do his best to get the princess to marry him. Of course, there is no talk of any love and there can be no - nothing personal, only business.
The third hero of this work is Vanka. That's just not Ivan-Tsarevich and not Ivan-Fool, but a simple chimney sweep, who dreams of no less simple human happiness, about a house, about children, about living away from noble gentlemen and that there was a loving girl nearby, well, isn't that happiness? And for this, Vanya is ready to go over thirty lands and face amazing creatures, but thanks to his kindness and the look of naive eyes, convince even the ever frowning Waterman to help him. Oh yes, Ivan is a real hero of folk tales and for many he was a role model, not the heroes of Disney cartoons. But the details are irrelevant.
Well, the last hero, or rather the heroine is the culprit of the celebration - Princess Zabava. That's just the name of the girl is a cruel mockery, because Zabava is deprived of communication with ordinary people, she is deprived of the opportunity to visit various fairs and holidays and all she can do is look out the window dreaming of fading from the kingdom like a bird. And soon Zabuva will have such an opportunity in the face of a charming chimney sweep, only they can escape Polkan and his guards? We all know the answer to this question, but let’s pretend that there is an intrigue, ooh!
In essence, this cartoon is a kind of analogue of Romeo and Juliet, all the same social inequality, all the same young people who want to live with their minds and strive for their own happiness, and all the same “adults” who do not understand this and say it will either in my opinion or in no way. “Flying ship” is a bright and kind fairy tale, after watching which a pleasant warmth floats on the chest and you want, figuratively speaking, to move mountains. There is good animation, great dialogue, and with them and jokes, for which it is worth thanking the voice actors, as well as there are beautiful songs that cut into memory and catch yourself singing motifs from the cartoon after a few hours, when it is finished. Isn’t that a sign of quality?

One of my favorite childhood movies. I didn’t know why it was called the Flying Ship. And just recently, when we talked about Russian innovation, a friend exclaimed: A typical history of Russian innovations is described in the cartoon “Flying Ship”!
It's true. Who needs this ship?
The Tsar does not need Polkan, only as a means to achieve a completely different goal.
The customer is not interested in innovation either. Possessing levers of influence on the state, he lobbies for the project, having joint interests with Ivanushka.
Ivanushka plows for free, due to future joint interests with the customer.
The developer of Water does not get anything at all except the short-term satisfaction of the thirst for communication. His poor quality of life does not change.
Representatives of the scientific school of Babki-hedgehogs, possessing Know-how (the cherished words without which the ship will not fly), generally seem not quite adequate, sexually dissatisfied, but at the same time unrestrainedly cheerful. However, do not forget to ride on the storyteller-villain.
However, all these nuances are understandable only to people “in the subject” and they do not beg for the merits of this wonderful, magical musical fairy tale.
How unhappy are we, princesses, we are forbidden by law to love.
A beautiful middle Soviet cartoon. Bardeen has not yet acquired the bitterness and bitter sarcasm that was reflected in his late plasticine cartoons, so the Flying Ship is full of joy and soft humor.
Interesting characters. It seems that the chimney sweep and the princess are already familiar with the events of the cartoon, but, so to speak, only “from the work” of the latter, and suddenly the “employer” and “maintenance staff” saw in each other a man and a woman ... such an old story about love in spite of social inequality. The young chimney sweep is young, deft and sings in the voice of Boyarsky - of course, the no less young princess likes him, and not the elderly, greedy and ugly Polkan.
Polkan isn't as stereotyped as it might seem. “The prince of the mud” is probably one of those people who “made themselves.” On the way to the position of second person in the state, he certainly did terrible things, but in a practical mind, at least, you will not deny him. Here is the tsar... unfortunately, an absolutely typical tsar of Soviet cartoons is a small grandfather, stupid and cowardly. Apparently, the tough character of Polkan caused the tsar to idiocy strong sympathy for him, with such a breath he dreams of calling him “my son-in-law Polkash”, that is, he sincerely thinks that his daughter will be happy with him.
And a bohemian watery, a kind of published artist, with slightly toothy habits? His song has long been a classic and disassembled into aphorisms. "Yeah! My life is a tin! – with the same feeling exclaim very many residents of the former USSR, if something is not glued.
And the fervent hedgehog money, living in a multi-storey hut on the snails? Before "Buranovsk grandmothers", probably the most famous group of old songs. They're just as cute as their frivolous chaps.
Not to say that the cartoon was some special depth of thought, but it is colorful, pleasant to the eye and evokes optimism. The princess, although she was “forbidden to love by law,” still violated the ban. I don’t know whether she will be so happy later “little house”, as it seems to her now – the life of the wife of a simple man is still not a sinecure, and the “grave of children” is also not a complete happiness of motherhood, but, on the other hand, it is still better than giving birth to the same ravine from Polkan. She found the freedom she had dreamed of. It also costs a lot, despite the danger of using it incorrectly.
To the educational effect, you can recall a graphic illustration of everyday wisdom: happiness has its own. In my opinion, this is a message to parents not to be so sure that their understanding of happiness coincides with that of their children. From the forced introduction of their understanding of happiness in the lives of their children often comes something similar: rebellion, or even escape. And it is good if on a flying ship with a decent enough person.
