The alluring but dangerous sea The storms frightened us in vain.
© From the song "For Those at Sea"
The romance of seafaring has been and will probably remain a magnet for all mankind. Except for those who are afraid of water. This is a short, funny, but very exciting cartoon about the formation of the young Sunnyshkin.
Meetings with sailors and captains, work on a ship and resistance during a storm - all this is shown with such excitement, with such lively and fast music that the cartoon flies in one breath. It also affects excellent animation, past which such harmful trends as minimalism, dressing and dolls have passed. As the basis for the ships used, most likely, real photographs, that is, “Seafaring” was partly created in the same way as cartoons of the 1950s. And that's great! Especially in 1980. The sea, the whale and the sunlight reflected in the water are also animated magnificently, so the real sea is felt in the frame with its splashes and salty smell.
The sea is fun and dangerous. We admire the strong character of the main character when he stands at the helm during a storm, but the most impressive, of course, is the scene of the escape of Solnyshkin from an angry sailor who was awakened during the rearrangement of barrels. Another sailor, who speaks in the voice George Burkov, is surprised by the fact that he walks in boots with high heels. How he is held on the wobbly deck is a mystery to me. The same mystery as the words about compote. Perhaps it is a very specific sea humor.
The disadvantages of "Seafaring" is the abundance of yellow shades in the frame, the weird smile of Solnyshkin himself, as well as "too short swim" that the audience does not have time to enjoy. Most likely, it was planned to continue, but the village has passed more than forty years, we probably will not see it again.
