A forgotten 90s movie. Part 43 Recently I came across this film and decided that such a picture is a sin not to reconsider. The era of VHS is long gone, but movies that are moved from one house to another and watched more than once, still remain a favorite today. I don’t even know how to call it, maybe it’s all about the charm of the heroes of the 90s, because they, being bright on the screen then, remain bright in the audience’s memories now.
Emilio Estevez’s second directorial work is a story about two best friends who work as scavengers. And the guys do not disdain their work at all, they get high from it and do not see anything shameful in the fact that they have to crawl through the garbage and drive around the city in oily overalls! It’s a real man’s job, why not? And the duo of the main characters - Carl (Charlie Sheen) and James (Emilio Estevez) in this regard stands out very clearly against the background of other movie tandems - partner-federal or cops, feds and criminals, men and their stunning companions, etc. Two scavengers are two new heroes, able to cope with the help of an air rifle and bandits, and make a tough joke on their colleagues!
Sheen and Estevez’s fraternal duet in this film is harmonious and very spectacular and, to be honest, it’s a pity that they didn’t play together so often. Firstly, both look good in comedy films, and secondly, what to hide, both were quite cute in their youth, and Charlie Sheen was one of the sex symbols of those years.
"Men at Work" is like "American Pie 2," but only cooler. This film is also about carefree children, who after work are not at all averse to break away and take care, but they do it with taste and without any vulgarity! And if you want to watch the second film in the family circle the least, then the first one is created in order to watch it in a cozy atmosphere and have fun.
This is absolutely light and relaxed cinematic fiction, which does not require significant mental effort from the viewer. Sometimes the film is stupid, as befits a comedy, sometimes instructive, sometimes naive. He takes the fact that the naiveté of the main characters and at the same time their sincerity see through in every action and to some extent even explain the fact that they work as garbagemen, not white collar workers. By the way, about collars: Charlie Sheen, playing a handy workman here, showed that he can and is ready to play a variety of characters, but one of his previous works was the film “Wall Street”.
Together with Estevez and Sheen, Keith David played magnificently here, turning the star duo into a trio. His character, with his constantly dissatisfied facial expression and the phrase “how much he hates everyone,” is a lot of fun, as is his hatred of cops. Oh-oh, this is a separate story, because the police in the eyes of this giant black guy are real creatures of hell and it is better not to be on ceremony!
Men at Work is a simple and easy movie. This is a positive comedy that evokes only positive emotions and despite its age is still relevant and fascinating.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
Enjoy your visit.
