Rademakers creates a two-hour life-long canvas. A few hours from a military childhood pass in one breath. We are frightened, together with our hero, watching the madness of what is happening. Will the boy be saved?

A few screen moments and before us is a young man from the post-war & #39; sweet life'. He returns to the city of his childhood and encounters several ghosts of his past.

A decade or more has passed. And unsolved questions are not diminished. This is a gray-haired man. He's about to become a grandfather. Hiding in the labyrinths of the past, he tries to find a better solution.

But the neurotic memories of childhood determine his entire life. A chance encounter in a dark cell with a young girl from the Resistance spreads into dreams and dreams. . .

A sad and heavy movie. It's loaded with its oppressive atmosphere. It becomes so sad on the soul, because the war not only Anton ruined his life.
The story tells us about a 12-year-old boy, a resident of a small Dutch town, who at the end of the war lost his whole family. One evening, Anton's family suddenly saw a corpse being dragged into their yard. The neighbors were dragging him, because everyone was afraid that the Nazis would think that you killed their ally. He was actually killed by Dutch guerrillas and escaped. The body remained there, next to the house of the Anton family. Peter, Anton's brother decided to drag the dead man away to protect the family from the massacre. But it was too late. The Nazis were already here. As a result, they burned the house to the ground, their parents and brother were shot. Anton was left alone. The film shows us his life after terrible events. Here he seems to be successful in life, married, with children, but the events of those days never let him go ... and after so many years, he finally begins to collect the truth piece by piece.
The picture goes back decades. It is very convenient that we are shown a huge amount of chronicles. Thus, we are not lost in time, but clearly see what happened in the world and locally in the Netherlands.
A couple of moments of the picture seemed to me naive and stupid, the acting did not impress, but the film itself definitely left a deep mark.
If you are interested in war movies, you should definitely pay attention to this one. It undoubtedly differs from the usual films on this topic, it is about the post-war state of a person, very heavy and deep, a red thread passing through life.
