Leave room for the Holy Spirit. It so happened that in ninety percent of cases out of a hundred remakes are obviously worse than the original and at best the viewer will receive a one-day film, which after a while you will not even remember. This is due primarily to the fact that greedy producers go to get as many dirty green papers as possible from a gullible viewer who, even if he did not see, then at least heard about the original film. Usually in such cases, a director is invited, about whom no one has heard before, one or two famous actors, but not so well-known, after all, the film is created to receive money, not to lose it, but for writing a script, a patient is imprisoned in a clinic for the insane, a six-year-old child or even a monkey. These are kitten pies. Why did I start this conversation when the movie is not a remake? Well, technically, this is really a sequel to “Night of Demons”, but if you look closer, then there is a burning desire to launch this film as a director with a newspaper, since he did not come up with anything better than simply copying half the scenes from the original film. On the other hand, everyone wants to eat, even not very talented directors, although if you listen to my colleagues who reacted positively to this film, then the film is a miracle not made by hand and a classic of horror films. A classic I've never heard of, unlike the first one. All right, we've got Demon Night 2, you'll probably meet me.
The first thing that pleases the film is the lack of a pronounced protagonist. No, of course, we have Angela’s sister, Melissa, who has been nicknamed “Mouse” for her way of dressing and keeping a low profile. According to the idea, she should be the main character, the goodness of her fate is not one of the pleasant ones - her sister disappeared in a haunted house, her parents committed suicide, and she herself studies and lives in a parish school, where her friends in the room put her in every possible way, and the guys do not notice at all. You'd think so, but no. Melissa will be given fifteen minutes for the whole film, and even then during this time they will not be able to show the inner world of the girl. And the actress herself will not really play, or else God forbid will be able to evoke sympathy from the viewer. Perhaps the main character will be the head of this educational institution - Father Bob performed by Rod McKerry, the only person who in this film will demonstrate a decent acting? Um, no. Despite the sense of humor and the fact that for father Bob, forgiveness is far from an empty sound, he plays a far from leading role in this film and appears on the screen even less often than Melissa. No, of course, there is still a sister Gloria, who behaves like a puritan, but the right of speech is a woman who is not able to find a common language with her students, and therefore resorting to insults and threats hardly deserves the status of heroine of the month, do you think? What? The other characters? Well, yes, there are seven teenagers who can be described in one word: rabbits. This is their motto for life and character. Sometimes, very rarely, young people try to imitate the characters from the previous film, but given the lack of acting talent, these attempts look pathetic and unconvincing. It’s a shame that you have to hide your sins.
The second thing that will please this film of your viewer, is the unreasonably stretched timekeeping. Of course, you can argue that ninety-five minutes is not so much and the first film coped with even less timekeeping, but here’s the thing – most of the time on the screen nothing happens. The first film needed a rock to demonstrate the characters of the characters and how young people differ from each other, and at the same time show the living world. The film's second just stretches the timing and even the lines that in any other situation said one person here were split between the two. Or even three characters who end each other sentences. The plot guns, scattered here and there, lead to nothing and break in the middle of a word as if it should be. All this causes a desire to put something heavy no longer in the directors, but in the screenwriters of the picture, who together worked on the story, but left such holes in it where a company of soldiers would fit... or even a detachment of a space trooper. Does that sound unfounded? Alas, all the examples that I could give will be either from the middle or from the end of the film, and these are spoilers, so I can only tell the skeptics – look and analyze what is happening, wondering whether this or that plot move led to anything or not.
The third thing worth mentioning is that the creators failed or failed to recreate the right atmosphere. A couple of times, at the beginning of the film, there will be “boo-effects” completely predictable, and therefore not scary, but this will be limited. Realizing that the atmosphere will not escalate, the creators tried to go into black comedy, but then they were waiting for a puncture, since the jokes were already used by someone before them and most importantly - more successfully. Here black humor causes not a smile or idle curiosity, but rather disgust. Lipstick that behaves like one of the processes of a tentacle monster from which all the juices were squeezed and playing basketball with a severed head are a clear example of this.
Outcome? There were a number of interesting ideas in the film that didn’t go off because the writers were fighting the green snake instead of writing the script. In the film, there were several interesting characters who were not really revealed either because they were given too little screen time, or because the actors themselves did not try to play, well, or did not know how to, here the hell radish is not sweeter. There was no budget in the film and it catches the eye almost immediately, thanks to Angela’s nightmarish, bad-sense makeup. The film will try to mow first under a slasher, and then under a sluggish action movie, in the best traditions of those played by young children shooting at each other from imaginary rifles and throwing packages of water at passers-by. The latter might even have worked if what was happening had not been brought to the point of absurdity. In general, the film is bad and it comes out only on the viewer’s love for the first part, but this is nothing more than self-deception, isn’t it?
