The Hunt for Office Plankton and Half Naked Girls With the appearance of low-budget horror films, which were later called the apt term "slashers", many discovered that the public, mainly teenagers, are curiously looking at them. Thus, cult franchises were born, starting from the films Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1980) and Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). And the main antagonists of the franchises have become no less cult characters, being one of the most famous villains from horror films. And they all had almost superpowers close to the mystical, and their brutality and desire for blood shocked, but this is what attracted the target audience. And the local successes of slashers, including commercial ones, put the production of paintings of this subgenre on the conveyor belt: many second-rate film studios produced slashers in an endless stream, but not all began to be in demand, this also affected the film directed by Wallace Potts according to his own script “Police Psychopath” (1989), which quipped in all parameters and could become a visual example of an anti-slasher of such a low level that he would be applauded only by Edward D. Wood, Jr. and Tommy Vaiso.
But what a surprise it was that several filmmakers developed a sequel to a failed film. So in 1993, the slasher "Psycho Cop Returns 2" appeared on the screens, in the original - "Psycho Cop Returns". But even more surprisingly, the script for the sequel was written by Dan Povenmire. I agree that many people do not know about this man, but in fact he is quite famous for his professional activities, which are mainly associated with animation and collaboration with the animation division of The Walt Disney Company, as well as the Nickelodeon channel. Dan Povenmire was involved in the creation of the animated series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1987-1996), to which we will return, “Oh, these kids!” (1991-2006), “Kangaroo Rocco” (1993-1996) and others. How Dan Povenmire ended up writing Psychopathic Cop 2 is a secret, as is why he needed it. The film was directed by Adam Rifkin (who is credited under a different name). Rifkin had at that time a track record of a middle-hand director and little-known films. And only then he will direct the drive-adventure comedy The Chase (1994) with Charlie Sheen in the title role.
And the history of cinema knows examples of how future star actors and actresses at the dawn of their careers starred in low-budget horror films. So Meg Ryan played in Amityville 3-D (1983), Jennifer Aniston was in the title role in Leprechaun (1993), Charlize Theron flashed in Children of Corn 3: Urban Harvest (1994), Rene Zellweger was in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4: The New Generation (1994), and Eva Mendes in Urban Legends 2: The Last Stage (2000). But Psychopathic Cop 2 didn't bring us any future stars. Although Carol Cummings in the secondary role of a girl named Chloe began to appear in porn films (I think it is clear in what form she appeared in Psychopathic Police 2). In several frank erotic films, another actress of this film was shot - Julie Strane, who got the role of Stephanie. And, by the way, Strane was married to Kevin Eastman, who is known as one of the co-creators of the comics about ninja turtles (I told you that we would come back to them). There are also in "Psychopathic Policeman 2" Melanie Goode and Maureen Flaherty, who were credited under pseudonyms. And they all lit up half-naked, so first of all in this slasher everyone will watch the charms of women, not the development of the plot.
Apparently, Adam Rifkin and the rest of the creators of “Police-psychopath 2” realized that it would be difficult to take the viewer with the idea of their continuation, so they removed in their picture, if it can be called that, half-naked girls who throughout the film and run in candid form. There are no words, the girls are beautiful and model appearance, but it is not for the same reason that horror films are shot. Most likely, this is a kind of hint of an Americanized version of the Italian subgenre "Jallo", which combines elements of horror films, thriller and eroticism. But in any case, it is expected from the slashers "crochilovo" and kind of it is present, but it is set so bad that you can only look at it through a sarcastic smile. And the main antagonist (he, as in the first part, played by Robert R. Schafer) was given the usual for slashers abilities to be where you can easily do his bloody work, and then, despite numerous injuries, he still comes alive, having obvious abilities to regenerate, as if Wolverine had invaded him. But how many stupid mistakes are made by potential victims of a psychopath who are trapped at a bachelor party, it really causes frank laughter.
In general, it’s a good thing that we stopped at the second part of “Psychopathic Policeman” rather than put it on the assembly line, because both of these films are a complete misunderstanding, they are so bad that they can even gain cult fame in certain narrow circles. And only because the sequel is slightly better, that the predecessor will raise the overall score of this "action":
