This cartoon is not very popular with Pixar Studio and is not remembered privately. But in my opinion, although this is a simple, but a good product that I saw not without pleasure.
The story tells us about the world of ants and their way of life. Everything would be nothing, but a quiet life does not give them locusts, which has superiority over them and simply terrorizes them. The main character appears before us an ant named Flick. He is a simple guy who wants to help his fellow tribesmen, but something always goes wrong. The image is quite familiar, but not without charm. For this character I want to worry and follow his development. Also insects, which are circuses, they have different characters, from leadership and calmness to naivety and childishness. This makes the whole action look more vivid and interesting.
As for the cartoon drawing, I can say that it is not standard and is more suitable for children. Of course, she didn't catch my eye, but someone might be embarrassed. One thing that might make you happy is the humor. In the cartoon there are many funny situations and just easy jokes. What's not there are songs, but to be honest, I don't see where they're appropriate. Well, the tape also has an important message about faith in yourself and the fight for justice, which is certainly another plus in the treasury of the work.
Over. This is a fascinating story about insects that live in their own world and have their own worries. In this cartoon, you can find something close to yourself or maybe even recognize yourself in some character. I especially recommend watching children, they should be delighted.

A good cartoon about good and bad, about love, friendship, devotion.
Pixar is a master of touching moments in cartoons, which the baby watches just with interest, and the adult sits next to him and winds a tear on his fist so that the child does not see. Almost all cartoons are built on a standard plan: acquaintance, set-up, sadness, denouement. Then we fill: the viewer wants heroes who will be sorry, for whom you want to worry, who want to sympathize.
Here it happened well: starting from ants in the same style, but at the same time we distinguish them from each other, ending with circuses with very original characters and their "chips".
Andrew Stanton is a master of his craft. A director who knows who and what voice should speak, what facial expressions should be, what phrase should be added. As a result, by the middle of the film, the viewer clearly receives a villain hero, a good guy, a merry man, romance and so on. Priorities are set.
Although this cartoon is humane - there are no too touching moments: apparently, both children and adults love it for this - there are no strong shocks (strongly - it is like in Disney's "The Lion King"). It's delicately done. With a bit of good humor and a valuable lesson that the child learns from the examples of insects.
At the dawn of three-dimensional animation modeling of small details was given even more difficulty, so it is not surprising that in 1998 for a new project came up with such characters who just needed a certain stylization - arthropods, that is, arthropods. Animals that some viewers are afraid of. In the conversation about insects, not least, ants are remembered, whose way of life partially resembles human. They live together, build anthills, hunt, fight...
If The Adventures of Flick had been released fifteen years earlier, the cartoon would probably have been released in Soviet distribution, since the topic of species inequality, easily interpreted as inequality of social classes, can only be eliminated by revolution, is being pushed in full. Locust, famous for its raids, is presented here as a robber species. Hopper, whose name is part of the English word Grasshopper, is a natural Hitler of the insect world, the most striking cartoon character enjoying his superiority. Flick himself is an ordinary ant, the image of which is almost directly taken from fairy tales about a knight, a dragon and a princess. But as you know, ants also have princesses. And of course, as in any fairy tale, the princess here gets into trouble. The plot scheme is so simple that even in 1998, the audience did not find everything interesting enough, for this reason we still did not see the continuation, although the Ice Age, Shrek and Madagascar that came out a little later got them relatively quickly.
Perhaps the main thing that can be appreciated in The Adventures of Flick is the species diversity. Ants, locusts, black widow spider, stick, ladybug, rhinoceros beetle and other inhabitants of the microworld are shown here very well. Note the sand, which for insects looks like a pile of brown stones. Tree-like grasses, giant birds and even more gigantic human structures seem as huge as whales or Godzilla and King Kong. To impress the audience with the difference in size, the creators of the cartoon really succeeded. In addition, it shows one very interesting engineering solution of the microscopic world, which, perhaps, is achievable in real life. I can guarantee that someone from the younger audience has repeatedly tried to build something similar.
The original title, oddly enough, does not emphasize the importance of the main character - "Life of bugs." This is the main theme of the cartoon, which is revealed interestingly at least visually. How many insect movies have been made since 1998? For this reason, the “life of bugs” is worth assessing.
This is the worst cartoon of 1998 and do not watch at all but better watch the ant antz OK and watch is not recommended even for children and thank you for your attention.

It's the worst movie of 1998 and it's very Bad and Weak and Cruel and horrible and never show the kids and all the other people please this is very important and thank you for your attention.
This is the Worst Cartoon of 1998 is The Adventures of Flick from Pixar, so never watch this Cartoon and never show children and boys and everyone else and thank you for your attention.
Once upon a time there was a hero. Real, capable of feat. True, he did not know that he was capable, but life forced him to discover his talents. No one understood the boy, he annoyed everyone and played to exile. And it's not Jar Jar Binks, it's Ant Flick. Well, it's more appropriate to say, Flick. To his own animated universe, he, alas, did not grow up, but the plus in the cleanly written notebook of creations Pixar left. Before the huge recording, something was missing all the time. Then his colleagues-ants will not accept his ridiculous inventions, then the leader of the locust gang will barely separate his head from the calf, then the troupe of unsuccessful circus workers will take him for warriors. In general, a familiar, banal and habitual in his stereotyped loser. How can we trust the continuation of a successful “toy-historical” business? And John Lasseter took and trusted, which now probably does not want to remember.
Of course, The Adventures of Flick is not a complete commercial failure, much less a full-blown failure. But after a powerful start, which proved the ability of the “Pixarists” to create not only impressive animation, but also deep, multidimensional characters, the story of an ordinary ant saving a colony from locust extortion caused disappointment. As soon as Flick, expelled from his home, finds pseudo-defenders, so the cliche of history mercilessly crushes all artistic delights. It is good to have nine individuals in the circus troupe, not seven, but the similarity with the classic epic of Akira Kurosawa is obscene. For a rather modest timekeeping, the authors failed to fully reveal the characters, and therefore, despite some personal charm of each insect, none of them fell into the soul as easily as cowboy Woody and astro ranger Buzz managed.
In itself, the idea of racketeering came out at least amusing, and the leader of the “limitless” Hopper clearly adopted Kevin Spacey's charisma. The glass eye is a remarkable find, adding deterrence to the main locust. It is a pity that the angry speeches of the cool boss do not produce the proper impression, because the creators needed to simultaneously reveal the love line of the main character, brotherly, belligerent, friendly and even from the heels of others. Lasseter is clearly confused as he wants to see his cartoon. “The Adventures of Flick” can captivate colorful, masterfully detailed (one torrential rain of what is worth) animation, but in the picture there is no quality humor, no fascinating action, no educational effect. At some points, the tape is even able to scare the young viewer. However, the basic characteristics of good and evil in the tape is easy to see, but they are dressed in such a form that they still do not reach consciousness. It is not surprising that almost the most striking characters were fastidious spectator flies, throwing all sorts of crap at artists.
Ants are rightly famous for the organization of their dwellings - they are impressive even by human standards. The more insulting that the authors bypassed the theme of the device and focused on the survival aspect. Why Lasseter needed to simplify the plot so much, when it was possible to fully reveal the main character and his colony is unclear. Obviously, the quality of the tape negatively affected the conditions of its creation. “Pixarovtsy” was vitally necessary to get ahead of colleagues from DreamWorks, so they were stung at full support, without thinking about script tricks. The haste, as usual, did not bring good, because Flick became such that you can laugh at his untemperedness, but not admire the suddenly erupting courage. When the perpetrator of the celebration frankly does not pull, willy-nilly you will want to look at the extras, and here the cartoon is able to throw a couple of pleasant surprises. When simple, but in their own way very cute circuses, it immediately becomes clear where the main investments went. The performances, though stupid, but really funny, simultaneously demonstrating the colorful diversity of the insect world. If only the drawing could cause a standing ovation, “The Adventures of Flick” would have become a classic.
Now this tape is thoroughly forgotten, and, perhaps, the main reason for the fact that here it is extremely difficult to find details that would become in the future for the “Pixarov” main. It turned out a kind of thing in himself, a loner without a clan and tribe. The unsurprising adventures of the ant remained at a respectful distance from the most successful creations of the company, and in this sense it is good that the continuation did not follow. The savvy Flick, if he is now able to arouse some lively interest, then rather he will be associated with the desire to acquaint his child with how it is not good to offend the weak and defenseless. However, there are pitfalls here: the activity of a gang of locusts “on vacation” causes a bigger smile than the collection of ant crops, and all the attempts of the authors to increase the degree of drama turn into an absurd hyperbole. Well, not every trip to the circus brings the gamut of pleasure, and therefore we can consider “The Adventures of Flick” only another confirmation of a long-standing truth.
P.S. It was with this picture that Pixar began to preface the main film with short films. So “Game of Jerry” came out much better and incomparably deeper in meaning.
After watching a couple of movies, I decided to continue my conquest of Pixar. To be honest, after “Toy Story” in the list of full-length animated films of the studio, I expected to see the sequel to their debut project immediately, but it wasn’t here, I caught the eye of a cartoon with a not very catchy and, most importantly, until that moment unknown to me title: “The Adventures of Flick”. To be honest, I postponed watching this creation for a long time because I never really liked the “ant” setting, I was never a fan of cartoons about beetles, bees, ants and other tiny creatures, but one day I decided to see this creation, and it turned out to be quite tolerable, despite its low popularity.
As I said before, The Adventures of Flick is a cartoon about ants. It is true not quite about ants, but rather about the food chain consisting of ants, locusts and birds. We will follow mainly the colony of ants, and the main bad guys will be a squad of locusts.
The first thing that is worth noting (and what you do not want to dwell on for a long time) is animation (in the people, some people call it “graphon”). So, the animation here has not jumped much forward compared to “Toy Story”, but it is still good, and if in “Toy Story” you could find fault with people’s faces and animations, for example, then there is much to complain about and nothing to do. Everything is well done.
I also liked the world around me, its work. I liked a wide variety of beetles, bugs and other cockroaches, I liked that the authors showed how they live. I like a lot of small details, which the authors treat frugally. As I said above, I don’t particularly like cartoons with this theme, but thanks to the detailed study of the local setting, I became interested in the local world and was interested in watching it until the very end.
Loved the humor. Here he is smart and funny, the mood of the cartoon thanks to local jokes to raise quite himself.
I also like the concept of the food chain. The strong mock the weak, but the weak can fight back because of their numbers. As a result, the strong cannot live without the weak. This locust could not survive if it was not fed by ants. It was a beautiful bird, too.
But despite all this, the cartoon leaves after watching literally nothing.
The plot here is not very interesting, and for the characters, unlike “Toy Story”, do not want to worry. Here it is not possible to squeeze out at least any emotions about the characters, no matter how they try.
And thanks to these two factors alone, the cartoon is not remembered. At most, the mood can be a little uplifting. It is good, at most, in order to occupy yourself with something when there is nothing to do.
Which in no way makes him bad. “The Adventures of Flick” is a curious experiment of a great studio, which has a lot of great achievements ahead. “The Adventures of Flick” at least helped to improve the animation and gain experience in creating interesting and detailed settings (this experience will be useful to them very soon, when creating Monsterpolis in the “Monster Corporation”, but this is another story).
And yet the cartoon does not let you get bored while watching, can lift the mood with good humor and after watching it, you are unlikely to regret the spent hour and a half of real time, and this is now something worth it.

P.S. The original cartoon is called “A Bug’s Life”, that is, “On the life of bugs” or something like that. Our localizers probably thought that the title “Adventures of Flick” was more appropriate for the picture, but this is not the case. The adventures of Flick are here from the force of 15-20 minutes and they consist only in one action committed by him. So it shows that the life of bugs, and Flick here serves only as a kind of catalyst for events that occur in the cartoon.
I immediately wanted to ask this question after watching The Adventures of Flick. I consider Pixar a studio of geniuses, as do many animation lovers. Fate gave me great gifts - until 2013, before I got acquainted with the Internet and got acquainted with cinema, I had to see all the cartoons of the studio. All except "Flick." I watched it about a year ago, and I thought it was just another genius. What's so special? What? There’s nothing like the rest of Pixar.
We will spend a junction with “Cars 2” – with the cartoon, which many consider the worst cartoon Pixar.
Cars 2 has everything but genius. There is a great plot, intrigue, sometimes a good drama emerges, the spirit of a cool spy detective, everything is simply unrealistically high-quality and cool, and sometimes even breathtaking. And in general, there was a misunderstanding with Cars 2, because everyone expected something brilliant from him, and everything there is great except genius, which is not there. The same thing happened to me when I watched them for the first time, but now I realized that Cars 2 is a great entertainment, carrying a whole charge of emotions.
What's in The Adventures of Flick? Great graphics for its time, what else? Everything!
“The Adventures of Flick” is definitely a children’s cartoon and nothing more.
But the animators still want to thank for their work. Even now, this graphic looks great. And that’s the only thing to thank Pixar for creating this cartoon!
It may have something to do with the fact that I was waiting for another masterpiece, but I was disappointed with The Adventures of Flick. And, perhaps, after that someone will immediately put a minus, but even “Ant Storm” seemed to me more interesting, most importantly – more funny (some jokes are generally ridiculous to abdominal pain) than this. If I had watched The Adventures of Flick in the '90s, I would have put an 8 for the incredible quality of the animation, and the plot was not bad for that time either. But now -

And if Adventures of Flick were to come out now, naturally with better graphics, 92% criticism and a 7.7 rating, he could only dream of.
Three years after its triumph with Toy Story, Pixar is back to unveil its new creation, The Adventures of Flick. On the one hand, it is impossible to say that this picture was something outstanding (unlike other cartoons of the studio, this is almost never remembered), but the battle of 1998 with another tape about the life of insects (" Antz Ant) she won and was able to help the studio to consolidate its success.
“The Adventures of Flick” is a beautiful cartoon that contains all the rudiments of future masterpieces from Pixar. There is a wonderful 3D graphics, a good plot about an ant-loser, already from this, causing a smile, as well as excellent characters (a group of circus artists worked on the URA). Perhaps there is not as much humor in the ant adventures as in other Pixar projects, but this is more than offset by the very powerful subtext of the picture. The locust terrorizing the society of ants is a story, especially relevant today. Yes, the strong always defeats the weak, but the latter sometimes does not even suspect that he was simply brainwashed and he is not. It's easier for him to be a slave than to try.
However, despite all the advantages, there is some absurdity in this cartoon. And although “The Adventures of Flick” can no doubt be called an important stage on the road to greatness, yet here the team of John Lasseter only stuffed his hand to subsequently shoot cartoons that cause admiration.

The success of toy history not only allowed Pixar to continue to draw great cartoons, but also awakened competitors who decided to try their hand at computer animation. The next Pixar cartoon was released in 1998. It was a movie about the life of ants - A Bug's Life. By a strange coincidence, the debut project Dreamworks Animations was also about ants and was called Antz. At the box office Pixar bypassed competitors, but now not about that.
Ant colony living on an ant island is busy with its routine business. We need to collect food for ourselves and for the local baddies - a gang of locusts led by Hopper. Ant Flick is not like everyone else, he's an inventor. The truth of his inventions do not resonate with his brothers and everyone considers him crazy. And Flick is a jerk, and thanks to his efforts, he lowers all the tribute collected for locusts into the reservoir. Naturally, Hopper resents and increases the size of the tribute, forcing the ants to work to their limits. And Flick had a new idea: he'd go into town, find big bugs, and defeat Hopper. This idea is absurd, but this is the only way to get rid of Flick and the queen of the colony gladly agrees and lets Flick go in search. The adventure is full of uncertainty.
The animated film The Adventures of Flick is forgotten and is not considered a breakthrough as the previous project of Pixar. And in general, when mentioning the studio, much more cult cartoons come to mind (Finding Nemo, Monsters Corporation, Up, etc.), and Flick remains in the shadows. And the cartoon is not bad, but it is not a masterpiece for all time, but an hour and a half of your life it will definitely brighten up.
All the attributes of Pixar cartoons are present here. The graphics are bright and juicy, for 98 it was a breakthrough, and now everything looks good. Variety of fauna: there are ants, locusts, and a troupe of circus artists, which consists of many insects. The plot about one man slut, saving the whole tribe and about the fact that a group of people were mistaken for the wrong ones, was in many films. But here it does not feel secondary, but carries on from the first to the last minute. That's humor, of course. Basically, the circus troupe humors with its performances and antics in the ant kingdom.
In sum, all this gives a positive and bright cartoon. He did not become a cult like the previous and subsequent works of Pixar, but to spend an hour and a half of his time is not a pity.

I watched The Flick Adventure with pleasure and many times as a child. It is interesting to watch the adventures of bugs. The plot is addictive, it seems to me that many children will not be able to pull away from the screen (checked on my younger brother) until they watch.
The animation is very high quality. Each character is individual, unlike anyone else. Can you imagine how difficult it is to draw an ant/locust so that every insect is memorable? Especially without clothes, which doubles the complexity of the animators. But they managed to cope with five plus.
Plot(spoilers): Every season, ants collect locust food on a huge leaf. This locust arrives picking up food and quietly flies away, presuming the timing of the next arrival. But this time, the mad inventor, Ant Flick accidentally tips all the food into the water. The locust is angry and asks the ants to get them food before the end of the season. The council removes Flick from work and sends him into exile. Flick begins to look for helpers to overthrow locusts from their "royal" place. He comes across the corpses of circus men. And then... See for yourself.
As you can see, the story is very exciting and interesting. It will be perfect for children.
I watched this cartoon as a child, and now I want to reconsider again. I just wanted something kind and touching, without an excess of modern computer graphics, without unnecessary special effects, without not always understandable “non-childish” jokes.
Yes, indeed, there are a large number of more dynamic, brighter and more spectacular cartoons. But behind all this veiled the main message to the children. For some reason, now many creators of animation forget their main audience. Of course, it is wonderful that people of all ages come to the cinema with the same interest to watch these “little” masterpieces. But we, adults, have enough genre diversity and everyone, even the most fastidious movie gourmet, can choose the right film for themselves. Let’s leave cartoons to children, do not turn it into another adult entertainment.
And if you remember that this is 1998, the more respect for the creators. Graphics at the highest level, all the characters are very beautifully drawn, each of them represents a holistic image. All these ants, locusts, ladybug, butterfly, caterpillar, mantis, stick and other characters please the eye and immerse in their small world of insects.
And let it be a little naive, with small shortcomings and flaws, not always logical actions of the characters, but this is a cartoon, he does not pretend to be a deep philosophical picture. He makes kids happy and splash their hands, upset when the main characters have problems, and they get into another mess. My generation grew up on it, we grew up like small seeds, grew stronger and eventually turned into big trees. We have learned to distinguish good from evil, to help others, to believe in ourselves. Thank you for that.
The main, and apparently the only drawback of the cartoon, is low-grade computer animation, namely, figurines of insects that only superficially resemble real representatives of wildlife. I know some good examples of quality animation, but this animation will be of medium quality. And this is noticeable in everything, in the unnaturalness of movements, in the absolute roundness of forms, in the drawing of landscapes - which not only barely resemble real representatives of insects, for example, the coloring of ants, which gives them the effect of "plastic", or a thick caterpillar that looks unnatural and disgusting.
Most normally painted ladybug (either he, or she) live bird and locust, but this is not enough. The plot is fascinating even for an adult viewer, either as a result of the beneficial wag of two companies, or lucky with the writers. In the example of an exile, an ant named Flick, a small viewer will be shown not only loyalty to his community, but also solidarity in the face of the enemy. It is the cohesion here that is shown more vividly than in other cartoons, which play an important role in the formation of young consciousness. Given the year of creation of the cartoon, the quality of the animation is quite forgivable, and the assessment is advised.
8 - For an animated picture. 6 - For the sounds and dialogue in the film. 6 - For humor and for funny shots. 6 - For musical content. 2 - For vocal performance. 8 - For the moral component. 8 - For the cartoon script. 8 - For the plot of the cartoon.
In 1998, on the screens of world cinemas appeared the second after “Toy Story” full-length animated film company “Pixar”: “The Adventures of Flick”. Unlike "History", the action of the new cartoon took place entirely in the world of animals (more precisely, insects), and among the characters there was not a single person. The cartoon turned out to be quite touching and moralistic.
The main advantage of “Adventures” is excellent graphics, ideal for converting to 3D format. Animators have worked hard for fame: wonderfully depicted characters, beautifully drawn elements of the landscape (be it grasses, stems and leaves of plants or heads of flowers) and the overall colorful background give the cartoon incredible realism and delight the viewer’s vision. The diversity of the insect world gives great pleasure: ladybug, caterpillar, stick, mantis, silkworm butterfly, black widow spider, flea, lice, rhinoceros beetle, a flock of locusts and a whole colony of somehow blue and purple ants. The musical accompaniment of the picture, namely: the final song, did not disappoint. By the way, I recommend watching “Adventures” to the very end, without saying goodbye to the cartoon on the credits: what you see will surely amuse you!
But the writers of "Adventures" are a little underworked. Cartoon a little lacks dramaturgy, the action is slightly straightforward. The relationship between Flick and Princess Atta and Manny and Gypsy remained unclear. It seems more logical to imagine Dora as the daughter of Atta (respectively, the granddaughter of the Queen). Characters of some characters (twin mocks So and Roll, stick Slim) were revealed only superficially.
However, the other heroes of the story appeared on the screen in all their glory. Very bright in all respects turned out to be circus artists, but the central figures of the story are still Flick (unlucky inventor-inventor, often going against public opinion), Atta (heir to the ant throne, trying to gain proper confidence), Hopper (cunning and cruel head of the locust gang) and Dora (younger sister Atta, who believes in Flick's ideas). Let these characters are slightly stereotyped, but very expressive and independent.
The crew of "Adventures" perfectly served the multi-layered morality of the cartoon. First, you must always go to the end in defending your principles and beliefs. Second, you should never give up in advance. Third, we must always fight for personal and social freedom. Fourth, we must carefully treat all living organisms that inhabit our Earth. Based on the above, we certify “The Adventures of Flick” as a kind and cute cartoon, suitable for family viewing.

A Bug's Life This cartoon was shot at a time when cartoons made with the help of computer animation did not come out every month for several pieces. The same, The Life of Beetles, or otherwise known as The Adventures of Flick, is a joint creation of Pixar and Disney. The cartoon turned out to be more successful than his brother Ant Antz from Dreamworks. The graphics in it for the ninety-eighth year at the highest level, the plot is very interesting, the characters are all bright and memorable, jokes are very funny there is something to laugh at both adults and children. 10 out of 10 Original
