A stingy old woman and a weak-willed old man One of the first fairy tales of Gunner, which was filmed with a new approach in the 1950s. All images and, probably, landscapes were drawn from the footage, so everything looks so authentic. Fans of realism will definitely appreciate this quality animation, which lacks, perhaps, only the contrast of the image. The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish (1950)
What else can be said about a cartoon that follows a fairly short source? There are only three characters here - an old man, an old woman and a goldfish, which not everyone falls into the seine. The repeated “what do you need, old man?” sounds both in the fairy tale and here. The life of the main characters, whether it is a poor shack, a rich hut or a luxurious tower, is transferred in full accordance with the concepts of comfort of the XIX century. The old man is always modest and dressed the same, which can not be said about the old woman, even outwardly producing an unpleasant impression.
Revising the “Golden Fish” along with other cartoons of the 1950s, you notice one undoubted plus: artists were better than filmmakers, managed to portray the raging elements. Clouds, lightning, billowing waves look better here than even in the film fairy tales of Roe and Ptushko. What did not obey the operators, dutifully followed the hands of the artists.
The disadvantages of the cartoon are the same as in the fairy tale of Pushkin. The old man is so weak-willed that he can not even be called a positive character. He just walks from the old woman to the coast and back, being nothing more than a messenger. The end is not fair to him because he lives with an old woman. Thus, the authors punish not only the culprit, but also the one on whom there is no fault. This makes you doubt the masterpiece of the work, so I put a positive assessment mainly for the visual and for the music.
