Skill. There is not a single bus in London that is not filled with spoiled youth.
- There is no longer a national tradition.
- You have an orgy there... Wrong house... So you're not one of these... Don't let yourself be given hashish...
She's not going to. Just look at the way these three guys travel around town. On the bed in the city, and then on the river – not a metaphor for attitude to life. Easy, fast looking for positive moments in everything. The reprehensible views of others serve only as a background. Richard Lester makes us all taste the air of freedom. The air the heroes breathe. Strong young, not too confident, but creating their own future. This gray world is already half defeated by them - they are ready for life. All the events of the film confirm that. Finding a sexual partner is just an excuse to get involved. Not beautiful, not rich, not brilliant, but they live by reality. That's interesting. Cynical Tolen is very different from them – calm and effective he does what others only dream of. That's what happens in life. Dreamers walk with girls, who then go to the conditional Tolen "listen to records." Lester is certainly not trying to stun us with this fact, he is just trying to make the youth more understandable. At the same time, the whole generation of “young and angry” is ridiculed.
Richard Lester made a very poetic film filled with lyrics and irony. In some places he anticipated more reactionary pictures of youth violence (Clockwork Orange, If..), and in some places juicy referred to the Czech “new wave”. In the end, they definitely laughed at the “Umbrellas of Cherbourg”. And who is going to star at the sentimentality of the French? However, in any case, the creators should be thanked for their conciseness. Realizing that the main emphasis would be on form rather than content, they did not inflate the long canvases. Brief, spectacular and impulsive. And although the musical accompaniment does not stand out at all for those years, it was very useful.
PS with movies as well as with women. “Skill” was waiting for success, and the much more interesting and radical “Sweetie” with Brando and Barton is quite an ordinary greeting of the audience. La vida es la vida. Das Leben ist Leben. La vie est la vie
