Adventure action film with Dicaprio. There's a grown-up Jennifer Connelly from Requiem for Dreams who looks like Demi Moore. Very high-quality, exciting and with beautiful views. The subject, too, is socially disturbing. On the stratification of world society and how whites destroy African peoples by encouraging wars, in the pursuit of diamonds in particular.
Plot. An unknown, healthy black man is caught up in a military coup in Sierra Leone’s civil war. His wife and daughters run away, his son is taken to juvenile militants, and he is sent to mine diamonds. There he finds a healthy diamond, rubs it and escapes. Then he crosses paths with Lee, a former mercenary and now a diamond smuggler. Dee wants this diamond in exchange for help finding the family of a poor African. Constantly flickering around Connelly, who is a journalist and very good. Sierra Leone is getting hotter and bloodier. And about the diamond and know other not very good people.
Shooting, drama and running. It's too action-packed for a social context, but you can see it. The movie's delicious.
This film boldly tells about the events of the civil war in Sierra Leone at the end of the last century, revealing the horror of hostilities, incinerating innocent civilians because of the machinations of people interested in monetary gain.
Do you have any gems? Diamonds? Maybe oil? Anything valuable that can be sold profitably? We'll take it! We will! And if you don't want to give it good, we'll take it by force! Let us arm your minority of revolutionary impotents and destroy the integrity of your country! Such thoughts are the place to be in the “strong” of this world. They have all the resources and unlimited power, right? That's the most important thing in life, isn't it? Money rules the world – is that how we are taught?
This is the internal message of this tape. It is sad to realize that the world has never learned anything in its millennia of intelligent existence. The war for natural resources has never gone away. Military conflicts around the world continue because of them, despite the fact that they are cunningly masquerading as an imaginary struggle for the liberation of this or that state from former government oppression. When will this all stop? I guess never. . .
The filmmakers imbued the plot with a realistic description of the above stated problems, and the actors incomparably embodied on the screen a variety of faces of this insane theater of war crimes. Leo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and, of course, the magnificent Djimon Honsu, without any doubt, demonstrated a truly high level of acting. And the director-director Edward Zwick, known to a wide audience for such works as "Legends of Autumn" and "The Last Samurai", was able to organically provide an opportunity to show each of the artists his entire professional arsenal.
As a result, “Blood Diamond” is a courageous film work that is not afraid to call things by their proper names, illustrating all the madness of the rabid thirst for innumerable riches at any cost, both by an individual and a whole paramilitary group, behind which there is undoubtedly a much larger “fish” than itself. The infinitely bitter consequences of war have to be experienced by ordinary people who just need to be left alone, allowing them to live peacefully on this difficult land.
1999, Sierra Leone. There is a civil war raging in the country. Smuggler and mercenary Danny Archer learns that fisherman Solomon Wendy knows about the location of the pink diamond, which is worth a fortune. He gets him out of prison and makes a deal with him. In exchange for the diamond, Solomon wants Archer to find his lost family: a wife with two children and a son who is in the rebel army.
Director Edward Zwick decided to combine the adventure component with the social theme in this film. Smuggling of diamonds and harsh living conditions on the Black Continent. With adventure here everything is at the level: a dynamic and tense plot, the characters cause empathy, constantly getting into life-threatening situations. The horrors of the civil war are also in all their glory: the murder of civilians, children are made soldiers, and healthy men are made slaves and sent to diamond mines. And the diamond cartels. Although the turn at the end, when after the article of the journalist, the UK government suddenly sees about it, well, such.
Leonardo DiCaprio perfectly played the cynical soldier of fortune Archer, and in the original he speaks with a wild accent given that his character is white, who grew up in Rhodesia. Jennifer Connelly in the role of journalist Maddie is cute and chemically good with Leo. And Jimon Honsu is as good as Solomon Wendy. Also in the background, Arnold Voslow bursts with charisma as Colonel Coetzi.
A good action adventure with an African flavor, at the end a little rolled into snot and pathos. But, in general, shot at the level.
If American film business in their desire to shoot adventure or near-political cinema did not penetrate the territory of the Middle East, then they are already somewhere in Africa. This is confirmed by another adventure drama, sometimes turning into an action movie, ' Blood Diamond' (Blood Diamond, 2006), which was filmed by Edward Zwick, known for his ' The Last Samurai' and ' Legends of Autumn'.
Well, on closer inspection, the film really reminds 'set of lies' Ridley Scott - primarily the political background of the tape and bearded Leo DiCaprio in the title role. However, ' Blood Diamond' seems less serious, but more pretentious - a politically correct mainstream action movie, a kind of hundred-million-dollar Hollywood attraction, where breaks in the narrative are made only to squeeze the stingy male from the viewer, looking at hungry black children and the atrocities of psychopathic revolutionaries in a single banana republic. It's touching, but it doesn't really touch. Because it looks kind of sugary, and we all understand that the creators are tightly aimed at the Oscars, and ' shot ' at least for the nomination.
Well, the storyline with a black father looking for his son, to the same Oscar-winning application is applied perfectly, against the background of such Sinbad-smuggler DiCaprio, a weapons dealer and treasure hunter adventurer, who, of course, revises his life views and becomes a hero. Double shot towards the Oscars, a strong contestant in the race.
Exhale gives only sexy Jennifer Connelly, between which and DiCaprio really sparks obvious tangible sensual chemistry, which begs for another successful love duo. It is a pity that the romantic storyline remains only the intended dotted line.
Djimon Honsu (a frequenter of secondary roles in Hollywood blockbusters) diligently portrays a poor and disadvantaged Negro who lost his family in the war and desperately sought her - the ideal character for winning the nomination for which he, in fact, was nominated. It remains only ' to wonder ' why objectively more talented Alan Arkin took the award.
As for the visual - African jungles and slums, savanna landscapes and beautiful views from high mountains, spectacular chases / explosions / shootouts. Still, it is impossible to get rid of that before us is an expensive (at that time) movie attraction, sometimes trying to talk about serious topics, but the obvious pathos American language. That is, the viewer is entertained, and the golden statuette is guaranteed to take away. The result is already known.
So it comes out ' Blood Diamond' a pleasant one-time action adventure with obvious American pathos about eternal help to the disadvantaged in the name of Oscar, where everyone loves it.

“Of course there’s a lot of shit in the world, but good things happen every day.” Only you are not involved in this.
I couldn’t think of a more accurate and original slogan than the movie. It seems to me that it conveys everything.
1999, Sierra Leone. Civil war. The son of a local fisherman (Jimon Honsu) is taken into the “children’s army”, he himself is forced to mine diamonds. This brings him to the attention of a diamond smuggler (Leonardo DiCaprio) and two completely different people form an unexpected coalition.
The film covers several themes: war in general and civil war in particular. We see blood, hunger, deprivation, inhuman conditions, but all this is already clear.
We see child armies. I followed the boy's story better than DiCaprio. Growing up in such conditions is a terrible sight. In general, I was very worried about the Vandy family.
Next, we have another love line with DiCaprio, but there is no worry about it. And she looked kind of inappropriate, to put it mildly. Although Jennifer Connelly is an unreal beauty. But again, I was much more interested in the fate of her investigative journalism than in love.
And the most important question that tormented me the whole film: “Who will DiCaprio throw?” Partner? Babu? All? Nobody? I watched the movie until the end.
Oh, there are so many different phrases that I think activists will soon get to him and ban him. Do you want to watch it?
There are 5 more Oscar nominations, two of which are for male roles, but it seems to me that beyond the nomination here and does not pull. All the actors looked less smooth and the same. No surprises.
Edward Zwick... A talented director who gave us such wonderful films as ' Valor', ' The Last Samurai' and ' Legends of Autumn' in 2006 released his best film according to many.
A brilliant film canvas.
'Blood Diamond'
The film takes the viewer to 1999, in Sierra Leone, during the bloody, civil war for the right to control the diamond mines.
Crazy and ruthless revolutionaries. Zombified children drugged and sent to shoot their countrymen. Teachers dying at the hands of their students and other horrors of civil war against the backdrop of picturesque places in Africa look extremely frightening, and the uncompromising nature of what is happening is shocking.
Against this background, an exciting and difficult story with deep emotional overtones develops. A story of greed, love and honor. The story of three completely different people whose meeting changes their lives.
By coincidence and against their own wishes, they are forced to act together. And overcoming many difficulties, squabbles, walking over corpses, they move towards their goals.
The plot is exciting, the actions do not let you get bored, and the main characters are very charismatic.
Play actors above all praise, it is not in doubt, and their characters believe and empathize.
Leonardo DiCaprio, as always at the height and with brilliance embodied on the screen such an ambiguous image, for which he was nominated for an Oscar, but as usual according to the tradition of zero was ignored.
Jennifer Conelli also perfectly revealed the image of an honest and good-natured journalist.
And the young Caruso Kepers, who played the role of Dia Vandy (son of Solomon), gives a very serious acting.
I am extremely surprised that Gimon Honsu did not receive an Oscar for his role His performance is so magnificent that it almost eclipses Leonardo DiCaprio himself, so brilliantly convey the emotions of a desperate father who is ready to die for his family; only a truly talented actor can.
Visually, the film looks very beautiful and concise, African landscapes are shown in all their glory, but without glossy pathos, the action scene looks realistic and dynamic, and the production of the film itself is very good and throws the viewer into the whirlpool of events and a cocktail of genres in which there are both elements of adventure cinema and a serious dramatic component with real historical soil.
The film causes a storm of emotions and keeps in suspense until the very end.
The entourage and extremely heavy atmosphere of the tape, complemented by chic music from the brilliant composer: James Newton Howard.
A great movie that will hardly leave anyone indifferent.
To be able to present a dish so as not to offend anyone or infringe on rights, the phenomenon is very, very rare today. Edward Zwick in the mid-00s showed a perfect example of how to weave into a single whole and historical facts, and spectacular (but slightly fantastic) additions to them. South African deputies, of course, were a little outraged for decency, saying, “we don’t have that!”, but in the end they took the main actors to the diamond mines, so that everyone would make sure that no one exploits poor black children.
And the film itself, for the most part, is not about this, although "Serra" and shows thoroughly all the creepy details of African realities. It becomes more frightening for how the human factor is involved in the frame - how the psyche breaks down, what people are ready for at critical moments of life and the confrontation of two values that always go side by side: family or materialism. Here are two main characters Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Solomon Wendy (Jimon Honsu) and go almost by the hand to a quite predictable, but absolutely beautiful ending, personifying just those values.
These two different worlds could work together, but there is only one winner. Absolutely fatal, at the same time true, but without hope Livitt and Mitchell do not leave. This is almost a humanistic movie, where ordinary things take on different meanings, and viewing will certainly not be useless.

"Blood Diamond" is a movie that tests its viewer for compassion. The story shown on the screen is easy to believe due to some real events.
The plot about the thirst for diamonds, acquires its bloody in every sense shade, thanks to the real images of the presented characters.
War, in which there is no fundamental difference on the basis of belonging to a particular people, without censorship is presented with a cruel content.
Central actors Jimon Honsu (Solomon Vandi) and Leonardo DiCaprio (Danny Archer) are the perfect cast. Two completely different characters, in the fate of each of them, a lot of scripted effort was invested. You can empathize with both. Not the last role is played by the acting game, squeezing all emotions and the necessary intensity from its images.
Edward Zwick created a masterpiece, a powerful statement for years to come. The direction of the diligent director is visible in everything.
James Newton Howard emphasizes the constant drama of what is happening with his soundtrack, at one moment leaving alone with thoughts again and again.
“Blood Diamond” is also a unique “road-movie safari” – dangerous, fatal, fateful.

First of all, he plunges us into the heart of Africa. You will not see beautiful fairy tales with palaces and lions. You will see the real Africans, their traditions, character, habits. Don’t expect to like what you see. Cruelty, bloodlust, unjustified pride, kich, pathosity from scratch - all this is inherent in them. Africans have nothing to lose but their lives. And their lives are worth much less than the diamonds they mine.
Based on real events - this tape gives a light to any historical drama. A special topic is child soldiers. To understand the magnitude of this tragedy, watch the movie. You will get to the core of what is happening inside. Learn about completely new types of zombification and suppression of the will.
The film has no flaws. Yeah, a lot of violence. Only a man living in pink castles can say that. Or do you think that nowhere where there are no minerals does blood flow? Do not forget, we are talking about yesterday's Papuans, cannibals, who were given Kalashnikov assault rifles, bruliks and whiskey. And they said that if they wanted to be the leaders of the country, they had only to assemble a death squad and steal their fellow tribesmen into slavery, which is what they do.
It is recommended to view not only for aesthetic pleasure, which you will definitely get, but also for historical reference and broadening your horizons: what is happening there on the sandy continent. It now forms a triad for me: The last king of Scotland was the Armoury Baron, the Blood Diamond.
Francis Ford Coppola acclaimed brilliant film “Apocalypse Now” allegedly introduced a tendency to expose films of political structures that hide the true face from the people and followed by many similar films, about one Vietnam can not be counted. And rightly notes one of the characters of the film - ".. this is already worked-out material - the authorities are bad, the rebels are even worse, no one cares about everyone ... ", as well as such films already look like the worked-out material without surprise. However, the more such films, the more you realize the magnitude of the general war, which this time touched Sierra Leone - the hell of civil wars.
The slowly developing plot is absolutely the right move of the director, in order to be imbued with complete chaos, you need to show from all its sides from headless rebels (RUF) proclaiming themselves liberators, but bearing only death and cruel deeds in the form of cutting off limbs or burning everything around, ending with the abomination of the environment where the city is more like a garbage dump, where various infectious and deadly diseases appear in such places. Constant revolutionary revolt, life on the verge of death has entered into something everyday and is considered normal, but if you dig deeper into history where freed slaves have yet to flock from different tribes, and the leader of each tried to establish his own order along with the European people who believe that black people are nothing more than slaves, their own colony, at that time and was born infighting, and these called themselves a united revolutionary front no more than the victims of time, the fruits of the seed of the ancestors of the “red land”. Through the eyes of the heroes who find themselves in the center of this hell, we are walking the bloody path. The hero of Leonardo DiCaprio, who realized that he was just a chess piece on the board of politicians, seeks to snatch his piece and sees only in this the meaning of life, since he resigned himself to the idea that “War, it is also war in Africa” and it is futile to change anything; The hero of Djimon Honsu is a victim of circumstances, but at the same time seeing the true goal in the form of not a “blood diamond”, but in the person of the family, this person is first of all creative, investing in his child that it is necessary to become a doctor and help people, but not kill, but the child became a murderer also not of his own free will; and the heroine of Jennifer Connelly who willfully found herself in the epicenter of the war trying to somehow change the established bloody order, which, having passed along with the hero Leo, a thorny path, pushed the idea that you can live in hell, but remain a person.

How often do you hear that life in the Third World is hard, and every day is survival. This movie is about that.
The review of this film is a song of praise. It is a pity that he was not appealed by critics like me. “Oscar” passed this tape, although there were many nominations, as many as seven. But come on, the Oscars are not alone. The cash register isn't impressive either. I wish it had paid off.
The film is relevant, based on real events, and, most importantly, believe it, oddly enough. You believe in what happened, and you believe in human relationships, in your father's love for family, for friendship, and at the same time that there is no limit to human baseness. The drive in the film begins from the first minutes, and does not let go until the end. In my opinion, “Diamond” in the top ten of some of the most intense and drive films, where the action means, not an end in itself.
When it comes to violence, it is in places, but it is in place, and it creates an atmosphere.
Excellent camera work and landscapes. What a music, Howard is beautiful!
The cast is excellent: Honsu, Connelly, and the most famous "Mummy" - Arnold Voslu.
And most importantly, Leonardo DiCaprio is a fantastic actor. A variety of roles, immense talent, which also manifested itself in this film.
Great movie with brilliant actors. I'm impressed every time I watch it.
Surprising thing, here comes across a film that seems actually the perfect picture for the evening, in order to sit, think, compare the facts and your own observations from your personal life, and then lie awake at midnight, reflecting on what the director / scriptwriters of the film said, but in fact it turns out that there is nothing to think about, because the creators did it for you, and you will sleep soundly, most likely, even without dreams. Strange all this, but such is the modern cinema, either it gives you what you are looking for, albeit with some limitations, or weighs you a powerful kick with the words: “Film for the mass audience, what is incomprehensible?” Well, for some inexplicable reason, wizards from the world of cinema believe that modern films should be as simplified as possible, otherwise they will not watch it. *I thought about the fate of the films “Fountain” and “Revolver”, which with a crash and rumble failed at the box office * Oh, yeah. I have no further questions. Well, that's the "Blood Diamond."
Solomon Vandy is an ordinary and unremarkable fisherman who lives somewhere in Africa with his wife and three... two kids in the world. The son of the hero goes to school and one day, according to his father, he will be able to become a doctor and change the world for the better, or even stop the war altogether. It is naive, of course, but people need to believe in something, and if God does not hear prayers, then you can only believe in your children, why not? That's just the rebels who come to the village of the hero, other plans. Solomon Vandy is captured and forced to mine diamonds, and the hero’s family is hiding in an unknown direction. At least a wife, a daughter and a son. Where the baby went is not reported to us, most likely killed, but since the heroes themselves do not care, why should the viewer remember this? That's right, there's no need. Better let's show more shot civilians, pew-pew! Sorry, I'm distracted. So, Solomon finds a huge diamond, hides it ... not like the hero of Christopher Walken from Pulp Fiction, although the option would be good, and then escapes from the concentration camp. Rebel leader threatens to find Solomon's family and what do you think? Finds a son who makes one of his soldiers through propaganda, drugs and alcohol. Scary? Wrong word? But unfortunately for Solomon, and with him and interested viewers, this storyline is a sideline and it is given time insofar as it is.
The plot revolves around Danny Archer, a mercenary, smuggler and cynical killer. He can talk anyone ... well, in any case, this impression is made by the hero DiCaprio, but unfortunately Leo the rest of the characters in this film do not believe a word he said. Well, really, crook and scoundrel, how can such a person be trusted? In general, Danny Archer gets into a bind and the only thing that can save him is the diamond that Solomon Vandy hid. How did DiCaprio's character find out? I told you, he's a scoundrel. Naturally, the heroes unite and enlisting the support of a sticky, like a bath leaf, journalists go in search of a diamond in civil war-torn Africa.
Hmm, an adventure thriller with a touch of drama and pretty seasoned with political satire, or even even reflections that can even be mistaken for philosophical. That’s the first thought when you start watching this movie, but as I said, something goes wrong from the start. Perhaps it is all about the violence in the frame, which shamelessly shoved the viewer in the face with the words: “Look how cruel, the rebels shoot civilians, the military shoot civilians, children shoot their possible fathers and mothers, and civilians die in the hundreds.” Isn't it creepy? Really creepy. It's eerie that scenes like this, which should look heartbreaking, are taken for granted. Of course, the director wanted to emphasize that in Africa the attitude towards life, he showed it, but such a massacre does not cause any feelings or empathy. It would seem that people die in a meaningless meat grinder. This should cause fear or a desire to turn away, but no. No sense of presence. And the actors themselves extras die with nothing to express faces, and most often we do not see their faces. Yes, even the news releases cause a much greater response in the soul than what is happening here.
As for the main characters, the problem is that there is no chemistry between the actors. The hero of Arnold Voslo, who got the role of an evil warrior, at one moment says I need Danny Archer alive to mine a diamond, the next moment he orders to kill everyone, even though his people saw the hero DiCaprio among the extras, and a couple of minutes later he again treats Leo with warmth and care. It was possible to write off the fact that the hero Voslo is a mercenary and he simply does not care, but in fact such a leapfrog looks rather stupid and does not allow you to understand how the hero and the villain actually relate to each other. Do not save the situation and the screen duet of the two main characters, who most of the road go silently and only towards the end of the tape begin to interact with each other. Interaction is too strong a word. Each of the actors plays his role as if there is no other in the frame, which creates the feeling that you are looking at the waltz of blind mice. But Jennifer Connelly is the most famous, who even speaking about the genocide of civilians says it with a smile on her face. Yes, not always, sometimes she breaks down, screams, but the eyes of the actress do not express any emotion, but nevertheless, an unpleasant residue from this remains. That's why you stop believing a journalist's words about saving the African people. You just believe she needs a sensation. Only this, even though the director tries to convince us otherwise through dialogue.
Yes, I understand perfectly well what the director tried to convey to the audience, but again without a complete immersion in the picture, the inability to empathize with peaceful citizens and due to the fact that the actors play well, but everyone in their field, this film looks like a very pretentious craftsmanship. It's not just the idea that the powerful are using Africa as a playground. This is no secret, and no country has stood by to extract Africa’s natural wealth. None. It is also necessary to make the viewer feel what is happening.
Edward Zwick is one of the most underrated filmmakers in the last 25 years. It all began back in 1994, when the world came out of the film “Legends of autumn” in which Ed perfectly adapted the book about the stories of three brothers. As such, the film received fame only in narrow circles and for this film can be considered a failure in terms of box office collection and attracting a large audience. Although over the years, more and more people meet and fall in love with Zwick’s work of art. Edward's next great masterpiece was a film about the Far East, or rather about the last years of the samurai in the film The Last Samurai. Zwick magnificently and soul-searchingly showed the culture, customs and mentality of 19th century Japan. And even for such a magnificent film, Edward was left with a nose. Although the film collected a fairly good box office and was well received by viewers and critics, the film received only a few nominations and more than one victory. Either it's because of America's resentment of Japan, or the negative attitude toward Tom Cruise because of his religion. But the fact remains that Edward Zwick was robbed again. But our hero does not fall into despair and three years later makes a film about the civil war in Sierra Leone (Africa) – Blood Diamond.
The film perfectly conveyed the problem of African countries and foreign conquerors or conquerors of the black mainland in the pursuit of diamonds. We live in big cities every day walking around diamond and diamond shops. Do we ever wonder how inhumanely they're extracted? Nope. Because we don't care. Just like we don't care that the 9th century samurai era is over. Edward Zwick, as in The Last Samurai, where America, because of its greed and selfishness, destroyed an entire culture, and in the film Blood Diamond shows the problem with the method of obtaining Diamants through the slave method of the local population. It reminds me of a gold rush. Unorganized mass gold mining at newly discovered deposits, which is characterized by a spontaneous influx of prospectors and predatory mining methods. The problem is that the gold rush took place in the mid and late 19th century, and the diamond problem took place in 1991, when there is such a great UN body that maintains peace in all countries. The war began in 1991, and the UN adopted some action only after 8 years, and the resolution after 10 years. During this time, 100,000 children participated in the civil war. One part survived but morally broken, the other is dead, and the third drug addicts remained and in the film it was perfectly manifested. Hypocrisy and double standards, that's what I can say about the UN. When you buy shiny stones, think about where they come from and what blood they are brought here.
P.S. Edward Zwick was robbed again, and DiCaprio continued his path.

A very heavy film that combines drama, adventure and action movie. That’s enough to make an interesting movie. “Blood Diamond” by Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Gimon Honsoo made this film one of the best I’ve ever seen. A lot of people will probably agree with me. Acting is on top. Footage with children stuffed with drugs and learning to kill people, touch for the most alive. This is how terrorists are born, this is how children forget their families and lose their human face. It is difficult to condemn them, you can understand, but forgive for the atrocity, I do not know.
This film is just a small illustration of what the precious jewelry that rich and wealthy people buy is worth. Every diamond is covered with the blood of more than one person.
Leonardo DiCaprio takes a lot of risks every day in the pursuit of diamonds, he gets good money, and this is the most important thing. He was used to such conditions of life, since childhood he tasted the bitterness of loss and loss. It feels like this smuggler only needs money, he can do anything for it. Meeting the brave and proud Solomon (Jimon Honsu) changes him.
Jimon Honsu did a great job. His hero is strong in spirit, he will not give up, he will do everything to find his eldest son, who got into a military camp for children who are turned into death machines.
Jennifer Connelly got the bright role of a brave journalist who sacrifices herself and her life to tell the world the truth about what is really happening in one of the states of West Africa. Chaos, blood, devastation, diamond chase, civil war.
“Blood Diamond” is a film that combines terrible footage of the civil war, filled with blood, with beautiful landscapes of amazing nature. It turned out a real oxymoron, shot in the language of cinema with a capital letter.
The movie is impressive! It shows a reality that we do not see, but we know about it approximately. The film well showed the suffering, war and fear of peaceful people who, like us, want to live in peace.
Everything is done exactly as it should: proper setting of scenery, natural play of actors, directing, script and high-quality soundtrack.
The acting game pleased me well with its sincerity, in which real emotions and experiences were visible.
Leonardo DiCaprio played a smuggler named Danny Archer in this film. DiCaprio qualitatively revealed his character, which is saturated with hatred and revenge. But, however, he reveals his sincere feelings, showing that he is also a person and can sympathize and cry.
Jimon Honsu played a common fisherman Solomon Wandy. Djimon revealed the soul of the character with his genuine emotions and feelings for both family and people in general. Jim coped with his role perfectly, playing natural and natural.
Jennifer Connelly played perfectly on the feelings of the viewer, playing emotionally and naturally. Jennifer managed to fit into the role of a not insensitive journalist. I believed her!
The film shows the director’s hand, revealing a terrible and unpleasant reality in colors that cannot be forgotten.

A magnificent thriller, playing on the feelings of the viewer with the help of a soulful drama, involving him in the atmosphere of a cruel and merciless war. The film is remarkable for its plot, which does not cause boredom. There is a good cast in the film, which forces you to believe in this terrifying story.
Blood diamond – as an attempt to raise a pressing issue, or as another attempt to make money?
Tricked film critics?
Surprisingly, I dare to question the relevance that many critics have revealed, saying that the film reflects social advertising and the desire, once again, to direct the views of the world community to the long-suffering Africa.
What is it?
Without referring to the numerous clichés, which, literally, are full of "Blood Diamond", where the shameful reception of "The rotation of all events around the main character" is very noticeable, which is characterized by many moments demonstrating, sometimes absurd, coincidences of circumstances, but at the same time explainable by the desire to create a blockbuster atmosphere. However, the ones I will not disclose are to avoid spoilers. This caused me to doubt the deep morality of the film, because where there is a motive for earnings, it is very difficult to understand the true problem posed by the director.
Bloody Democracy.
Let's go through the script. The heroic epic - in which Leonardo DiCaprio played very effectively, causing a desire to think about the contradictory nature of his hero, where the goal justifies the means, sometimes very illegal, when for the sake of the dream of a lifetime, you have to bet on someone's moral values, fundamentally changing the game. This became one of those analyzed problems that I identified, in addition to the policy of developed countries towards developing countries, one of which is the problem of choosing a moral foundation when it comes to self-sacrifice for the benefit of others, in the eternal questions of altruism and selfishness.
Word to future viewers.
Choosing a film, I was in anticipation of relaxation from watching, motivated by genre - the action movie, although I saw something more, which means that I will not lean to one or another side of the criticism. I will only say that what the future viewer expects from the film, and get, without a drop of disappointment.

Smuggler, “soldier of fortune”, white, for whom Africa became a home, his parents shed their blood on this land, stained with it the scarlet sand of Sierra Leone, he fought, stole, sold, sewed diamonds under the skin of sheep – he was part, a cog of the huge mechanism of the diamond cycle in nature. The journalist is young, beautiful, successful, capturing on her film pain, death, suffering, not for money - because it does not matter. He was born in war, he lives in war, and he will end his life in war, for a colonel is not a rank, but a destiny. The fisherman is virtuous, like all fishermen since the time of Jesus, gently caring for his wife and three children, the last thing he needs in the world is war and abhors blood and murder. And it is with a truly inhuman pleasure that he will lower the shovel on the head of his enemy again and again until he loses the appearance of man. The boy - reaches for knowledge like a flower to the sun, wants to become a doctor and help people, if he was born in another world, perhaps he would become the winner of the Olympiads, the pride of the university, a promising specialist, hope for thousands. But not in this country.
What can not be taken away from the film – clear, well-written characters, with an interesting believable fate, their actions touching the deepest strings in the human soul. The whole film consists of sharp scenes, fragments, tearing the soul and destroying our idea of many things. The heroine of Connelly takes pictures through the wire fence of refugees - unfortunate, strayed into a bunch of people, struggling to escape and somehow survive unprecedented grief. With greed she catches in the lens every gesture, every tear, every cry, in order to forever capture them on film and sipping a latte in a cafe, some European could, turning the page of the magazine, see the pain and despair of a distant and alien people. The next scene is already a whole pack of reporters, as a pack of hounds shouting “an ambulance hit a shell!” rushing in order to quickly film the bloody corpses. Solomon's hero looks at them in horror and the only one (!) takes a dying child in his arms while the "successful and independent" click the lens. Standing in London in front of a fashionable boutique, a recent fisherman, who yesterday burned bare feet on African soil, looks at a necklace with diamonds worth the annual income of the capital of his homeland and stones - he already knows the true price of each stone in this jewelry.
The filmmakers took an unprecedented height and ... failed. Cowards. I don't know how else to say that. Well, how could you create such an incredible drama and retreat at the last minute? In simple and accessible language, the criminal scheme of money laundering and the artificial transformation of the whole continent into an aggregation of incompetent countries were uncovered, so that instead of naming the real culprit of these events, they simply spread their hands to the side and declared a number of “flagrant” truths: “Here murder is the order of things, so it has always been for centuries and always will be,” “we were better off under the rule of a white man, I begin to think that something is wrong under our black skin....” Like, relax guys, no matter what we do negroes - slaves by birth and in their essence, where they are without the power of a white man, the only thing we can help them is to slap a couple of sensational reports into the press, as if the world government will come to its senses and put smarter rulers over a number of hot spots in Africa, so that the locals do not kill each other too often ... Connelly’s heroine, a smart aunt, screams hysterically in DiCaprio’s face: “I need names, addresses, photos, account numbers!” What do you mean, honey? Everything has long been known and published, the most famous political scientists in the world are printing this data, what has changed? If people in my country find out how many people are dying because of diamonds and refuse to buy them. At the same time, let them abandon iPhones, TVs, washing machines and microwaves, because the batteries to them are made with tantalum, produced in turn from raw materials – coltan, heavy black sand, 80% of which is mined in the northeastern provinces of the Congo, bordering Rwanda. In order for us to buy cheap electronics, at least 5 million Congolese have died, almost a million people have been carried away by one of the bloodiest genocides of the 20th century in Rwanda to bring a pro-American government to power. What's the result? They shot Hotel Rwanda. Like they apologized and changed things for the better. This is not Africa, this is the view of the white colonizer on it.
On the one hand, the movie is great. Shot powerfully, drive, despite considerable timekeeping, looks in one breath. DiCaprio and Connelly, film professionals, show strong quality play. The nugget of Jimon Honsu and Caruso Kepers is the soul of this film.
And yet the movie is monstrous. If we are to shoot about such a truly geopolitical problem, then do it boldly and go to the end. Take superficial facts, grease on top with black, add gloss with Oscar nominees - and step back.
For the first time without evaluation... I want to put a zero and put 10...
Such films make you think about a lot, the problems of African countries have always been and will be relevant in Hollywood, in films of such subjects there is always a lot of emotions, suffering, cruelty and a lot of food for thought, and this film, which turned out to be simply amazing.
Edward Zwick made a great film, which was a lot of time devoted to the civil war, shows how children can be easily zombied and they become murderers and turn into completely different creatures, the picture perfectly shows how easy it is to make real monsters out of children. I also loved Solomon’s struggle for himself and his family, and his emotions were very different, but very sincere. In addition, there is love in the film, the truth is unsaid, I would also note the unparalleled play of the main characters of the film and of course the denouement.
The cruelty in the film is enough, watching how children kill was really creepy, and this is not speculation, but this is really happening in Africa, to imagine this in life is really creepy, the actors who played the children of murderers conveyed all the emotions of their heroes, everything they feel at the time of murders and in other situations was transmitted by them very realistically.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Jimon Honsu, knew this actor from the wonderful work in Gladiator and in the White Elephant, this role he turned out to be no less wonderful, Solomon I liked most of all in the film, he was very sorry on the one hand, on the other hand I admired his stamina and his courage, at first he was a simple fisherman who dreamed of his son getting an education, he wanted to give his son the best, his hero changes as soon as his son is kidnapped, I liked Jimon’s emotions most, as he played wonderfully, as he did not accept his son’s fight, but he did not look for him at the end, but he did not immediately after his son, but he did not look for him.
Jennifer Connelly, very much liked in her role, journalist Maddie is a very important character of this film, she is also fighting, her struggle was to discover the truth about diamonds and she achieved her own.
An amazing, dramatic, cruel and complex film that shows once again that your life is not so bad, there are people who suffer more than you, who fight every day to live and their every day begins with a fight and ends with a fight for their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
Just Bravo.

P.S. Sometimes I wonder if God will forgive us for what we do to each other. And then I look around and I realize... God left these places a long time ago.
Because I watch a lot of movies, I get disappointed in the movies. In fact, there are very few decent films. But “Blood Diamond” deserves the title of masterpiece. Such films can be counted on fingers. After all, everything is not a simple plot, and dynamism, and an interesting topic, smart dialogues, sharp phrases, heartbreaking scenes.
The cast is fantastic. DiCaprio played a masterpiece, this is one of his best roles. For me, second place after his role in the movie The Beach. I didn't think he could impress me any more. But after this role, I can honestly say that he is my favorite actor.
Jimon Honsu and Jennifer Connelly are amazing actors. Put everyone in those roles. I couldn't help but believe them.
Don't you have a wife?
- No.
- And no children?
- No.
- And not home?
- No.
- But you mean money, right?
- Yes.
This is an incredible movie that has been in my mind for the second day. I advise anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to take a look. Such masterpieces cannot be ignored!
Ladies and gentlemen, this is an excellent movie. A tense, violent, honest, dramatic film. Besides, it's very dynamic. On the screen, there is always something going on. It's impossible to break away. I came across this picture, not so long ago. I didn't watch the trailer. I didn't even read the description. However, a powerful cast has already promised a high-quality product of foreign cinema. Okay. Let's talk about the movie.
It is unlikely that this tape will leave the viewer indifferent. Even the most harmful critic. The premiere of the film caused mass criticism of the authorities of South Africa. Well, you bet. The director of the film Edward Zwick, not afraid of anyone and nothing, shot a very frank and cruel film adaptation. Do you know who is responsible for all this bloodshed? These murky faces, by no means, run around Africa with machine guns. They do not have to endure merciless bullying and humiliation. They sit in comfortable chairs, in their spacious offices, drive around in their limousines. Fish rotting off their heads. Agreed? Of course they do. I'm really wrong. The film, very clearly, raises some of the questions that these very individuals are in a hurry to evade. Would people wear jewelry with these stones, if they knew what kind of blood they were extracted? You know, I'm convinced that they would. Yeah, and nobody knows anything. All these poor fishermen, peasants, farmers are very sorry. Common people always suffer. And always, he suffers the most. The main character (DiCaprio) is a guy - a daredevil, a soldier of luck, an adventurer. He's a diamond hunter. By chance, he recognizes a simple fisherman who found and hid a hefty stone. For both, it's a ticket to a better life. However, the poor fisherman, unlike the selfish goals of his "companion", wants to find his family. DiCaprio's hero has a choice. Choosing honor, self-interest, compassion. Which you'll see in the end. About actors, I'll say a few words. In long descriptions and presentations, they certainly do not need. Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, just a talent. One way or another, he should get his Oscar. It's a first-class game. And more, and you don't have to write anything. One of the best roles of an actor. Great work, paired with DiCaprio, talented actor Jimon Honsoo. He didn't concede to his colleague. Very revealing game. A very difficult role. You did great. Jennifer Connelly, as always, is gorgeous. Moreover, the appearance and talent, in this girl, perfectly harmonize. In addition, I can say that for each of these three actors, the role in Blood Diamond is a very worthy role. I won't paint the rest. The actors of the second plan, too, worked well. But, for obvious reason, against the background of the above-described trinities faded. It is also worth noting high-quality directing, very skillful camera work, atmospheric musical accompaniment.
Absolutely, I advise everyone to watch. I definitely add it to my collection. I would love to review this picture soon. I don't think there's anything else to write about. A valuable gift to all moviegoers. Modern Russian cinema is unlikely to ever reach this level. Just a maximum estimate. Thank you all for your attention.
People will stop buying diamonds when they find out someone has lost an arm.
Honestly, I have been planning to watch this movie for a long time. It was finally the right time to watch the movie.
After watching this movie, I was thinking for some time, because the film is not easy and everything seen in it can not but cause emotions.
As for the plot, the plot focuses on the civil war in the state of Sierra Leon, the war between the rebels and the state army. The insurgents are raging and destroying the cities, killing everyone they meet, whether women or small children. Only older men and children are left alive to work digging the diamonds the rebels need to buy weapons. . .
In the center of the plot is a simple fisherman Solomon Vandy, who was also captured by the rebels and who for some time mined these same diamonds. . . Everything would be fine, but at one point he found a rather large diamond, as a result of which the whole action of the film went until its completion.
I want to note that the film definitely makes you think, gives you the opportunity to see the horror of wars and wartime. It is terrible to see how small children with machine guns in their hands ruthlessly shoot peaceful people, women, children, the elderly, everyone who comes in their way. It's really scary.
As for the actors, I really liked the performance of "Jimon Honsu".
He very authentically and naturally portrayed a father who had lost his family and had been looking for it for a long time. Pain, suffering, all these emotions were portrayed by Djimon, playing the role of Solomon Vandy. Great performance, great respect for this actor.
About Leonardo diCaprio much to say and not worth it. Everyone knows how talented this actor is. Here in this film, Leo played very decently, fully got used to his role and very successfully showed how his character changes during the film.
Jennifer Connelly played well, showed what was required of her. She has definitely done well in her role.
The film is very dynamic, very emotional and definitely requires watching.
Personally, I liked the film very much, I was pleased with what I saw.

In America, diamonds sparkle, and in Africa they kill.
The problems of famine, civil wars and genocide should touch everyone’s life, that is, hypothetically, on every snotty-tearful scene of Blood Diamond, a stream should run out of the eyes. But no.
And that begs the question. Or did the man finally get used to violence? The movies are so stupid. And like the footage is weighty, and like attempts to attract meaning in the script are present. But here's the final product. A look from the top of a high mountain at what is happening at the foot, the mountain of centuries, time. It's as if a person from the distant future, flying every day into space to work, looked at yours today and thought you were a crazy savage. American, and indeed Western, arrogance has no boundaries in this film, and moisturizes with its cow tongue every dialogue. There is a lot of bias in the characters and the events that happen to them, a lot of emphasis on the differences between the white world and the black world, as if they were two completely different worlds. But people of different cultures and races easily understand each other’s basic emotions without using language, because we are all of the same blood.
It is impossible to argue with the fact that weaving into the action-packaged core of philosophical topics from the school course of social studies gives the impression that this is a serious film over which you can think. But these are just pictures. Depicting the beauty of nature, the ugliness of violence and death, trying to appeal to the conscience of consumers, who, in fact, arrange all this catavasia in the world. These are also images of the divine torso of Jimon Honsu and the stunning face of DiCaprio in all the agony of his acting ego. But no matter how you look, you will not see anything close to the human heart in these pictures, although the film is made accessible and heartfelt. But without the power of art, cinema is doomed to oblivion, and there is not a carat of art in Blood Diamond. So much molasses flow into it from the tops that it seems sham, unreal and therefore very tedious and useless.
The diamond was turbid.
“The root of all evil is love of money” (1 Timothy 6:10)
“Looking back, I wonder if God will forgive us for what we do to each other? And then, looking at everything that happens around me, I understand that God left this land long ago, says the hero Leonardo DiCaprio, and maybe the civilized world, from part long ago poisoned by the love of money, itself withdraws from God, trading conscience, like a well-known person “for 30 silver”.
It is remarkable how Danny Archer himself changes as a person, especially in the last minutes, when money, power and other attributes of “greatness” no longer matter.
“Blood Diamond” by American film director and producer Edward Zwick is not just a film in the genre: thriller, drama, adventure. This is another reminder of the important question for everyone: “Who am I?”
Symbolic and slogan to the main name. They complement each other perfectly. For this decision, I take my hat off to the creators of this wonderful film.
I don’t want to sing too long. In short: a stunning, deep picture (albeit not devoid of a bit of humane American pathos), soulful play and magnificent music that dangles in the heart and memory. The film covers a range of very serious social and political problems from racism and the upbringing of child cruelty to civil wars, violence and murder in favor of their own interests.
It is a pity that a movie in five Oscar nominations was amicably rolled at home. Apparently, one of the reasons is that sin and blood on the hands of their own compatriots are, of course, serious things that are difficult to admit immediately and openly. Any film that wins an Oscar doesn’t matter in which category – it’s public attention. So is it not better to slightly hush up the topic, especially since there are probably other versions similar to the truth.

Grief and tears of unfortunate people and priceless, beautiful stones
From the first to the last minutes of Blood Diamond, you experience a profound shock and shock. In Africa, diamonds are mined, the discovery of which is built on the mountain and tears of poor African, defenseless people.
This is the most powerful drama. The film is extremely strong and emotional. The plot is very interesting and exciting. The actors in this drama are admirable. Leonardo DiCaprio plays flawlessly as always. He is a great actor, created for such great films. It's the first time I've seen Jimon Honsu on the screen, but I've remembered this actor for a long time. He played well: dramatic, and most importantly believable. I also enjoyed watching Jennifer Connelly in this movie. All the main positive actors of this drama touched me to the depths of my soul, their performance is amazing.
The budget for this movie is $100 million, and it's amazing. I wanted to shoot more of these films and do not spare money on them.
My advice is to watch this drama! “Blood Diamond” will show us all the bitter and sad truth that beautiful diamonds keep in themselves in women’s hands.

Several times I decided to watch this film and in no way “hands did not reach”, as I am not an ardent fan of films about the war, I cannot stand shooting, mass murder, etc. But, the love for the work of DiCaprio still overcame, and I finally looked.
I’ll start right away with what caught me the most – this is DiCaprio’s hero. This actor needs to tirelessly sing praises! His ability to elicit so much emotion, empathy and compassion, whether he plays a negative or positive role, is simply unique!
I was very worried, but only for his character. The only person who deserves to get what he wanted was him in this movie.
His character, a person looking for profit and wanting to arrange a comfortable life for himself, well, he had every right to do so, since he put his whole life to achieve his goal - he fought, he stayed in hell knows where - but, nevertheless, his character is not without compassion, everyone wants to profit, but not everyone who is looking for profit has the last quality. On the background of it, as always, the rest of the actors are lost, so I will keep silent about them.
On the subject:
The storyline itself is also quite interesting, despite all the explosions, murders, shootings. This is one of the few films that you can watch without thinking about time and not wanting it to end soon. Exciting moments alternate with calm dialogues, but here they look just, by the way, and almost irritate, and even vice versa.
Thus, for an interesting plot and an amazing game Leo of course:

Danny Archer is a diamond smuggler in Africa. One day he meets Solomon Wandy, a fisherman who was taken from his son in the “children’s army”. Archer offers to help Solomn, if he takes him to the huge diamond that Vandy found at the diamond excavations.
Edward Zwick made a very good movie in 2006. The film shows Africa as we are used to seeing it. It's a movie about bloody Africa. He takes thoughts and talks about the “children’s army”, “blood diamonds”, the friendship of different people, the relationship between father and son. In addition, he takes his landscapes. In addition to bloody Africa, there are beautiful mountains, fields and forests. Leonardo DiCaprio played Archer well. His character changes the whole film and becomes a true friend of Jimon Hoons. The film also has pleasant and interesting action scenes. Shootings in the city, jungle chases, excavation shootings. The music is pleasantly reinforcing the atmosphere, but you do not want to listen to it in isolation from the film. Cons I consider multiple drawn-out moments associated with Jennifer Connelly.
Verdict: a good dramatic adventure movie with excellent DiCaprio play.
Today I watched Edward Zwick’s Blood Diamond. Before I talk about the film, I would like to express my opinion generally on the subject of Africa.
Africa, for me personally, is the bottom. We all know about unemployment, deaths, drugs, wars, and things like that.
And we are directly helping citizens, creating funds, sending people, etc. But no one thought about the real root of the problem.
People who lived in Africa did not know about civilization until the 19th century. Lived in tribes. Well, how they lived -- survived. And the actual colonization began. This is where the fun started.
The slave trade is bad, everyone knows it from school. But again, few people think about the consequences of cancellation.
Roughly speaking, Africans have made a dramatic leap, socially and economically. On the one hand, that's good, you say.
The flip side of the coin is that it is easier for people to absorb the worst.
Most people have guns, but no home. There are drugs, but there is no basic first aid kit.
And you and I, unknowingly, support all of this. That's what the movie "Blood Diamond" is about.
And now about the movie.
Plot: 1999. Civil war. Blacks fight, whites earn money.
And as usual, people suffer. The people here are the ordinary fisherman Salomon Weid. His village is invaded by revolutionaries, his son is kidnapped and recruited, and the family hides in a refugee camp. And they send him to a diamond mine. Where is he dripping a giant diamond (100 carats, cool?) But then the government invades and Salamon ends up in prison. Diamond hunter Dani Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) was also in this prison. A man who has been through a lot and is trying to find his place in the world.
Dani needs the diamond and the money, Salomon is his family. Through story threads, they combine their forces. They are assisted by journalist Maddie Bowen (played by Jennifer Connelly).
The story is not very original, but it is very interesting. Here you and thoughtful dialogue, a good sandwich, excellent camera work. And, of course, it's an acting game.
1) Leonardo DiCaprio - Playing just fine. I got used to the role, his accent just need to hear. (advised to watch in the original voiceover) It's not easy to play white from Africa. But he did, and I think this movie played a big role in his life. (Sorry for the pun).
(2) Jimon Hunsu is his emotion, it's a godsend. I haven’t seen such a drama in a long time. The film without him would have played very hard, much more than without DiCaprio and Connelly.
(3) Jennifer Connelly is not bad overall, but she definitely needs to work on the lyrical component. But how she gave the journalist's exhaustion and thirst for truth, oh!
Overall, the film is worth watching. It really is, but it is a little fabulous. But I want to believe. Because you know with your brain that Africa will always be a place where God left a long time ago.

Edward Zwick is probably one of the most voluminous directors, in the sense that he takes pictures that cover not only a single territory or the story of one or two people, no, he always tries to show the plot in a broad panoramic way. “Blood diamond” refers to this. This heroic-epic drama, which began with another local war in the African country of Sierra Leone, tells us about many problems not only of the “Black Continent”, but also about those behind-the-scenes games that are conducted by the powerful of this world (and who still believes that the capitalists earned their savings by honest means?) .
The very dramatic story of the search for a huge diamond is shown to us by the two main participants in the action. The first I would still call Gimon Hunsou (for his game, the native of Benin received a second Oscar nomination for best supporting role). He plays the father of a family from Sierra Leon, within which internecine conflict flared up again. During an attack on his village, he is captured and sent to work for a diamond mine, where he finds a rare diamond. Then he did not know that this find will help him return his son, recruited by the rebels, and lead the fight against those who profited from the war. Jimon Hunsu plays amazing: with all the strength and capabilities of his talent, he shows the despair of his hero, the strongest fatherly love and sorrow of what is now happening in his homeland. When viewing, you can see that his character, if necessary, will take revenge, if necessary, he will give his life without thinking, he is the one about whom they say “a real fighter”. There would be no better actor for this role.
In the partners of the hero Hunsu imposed a kind of "soldier of luck", former military, and now a diamond hunter, adventurer of new tailoring performed by Leonardo DiCaprio. The year of the premiere of "Blood Diamond" - 2006, the same year that the film "The Departed" was released, and who will say that this year did not come out with "DiCaprio"? For his role in Blood Diamond, this actor is nominated for Best Actor. And what to say here, if many agreed with the critics who provided this nomination. The actor in a magnificent way shows how the revaluation of values of his hero takes place. At first, he’s the kind of guy who just hunts for profit, trying to close his eyes to the fact that maybe his actions will lead to violence. But when he feels the trouble of his partner, he changes before his eyes and his last act, as we think, completely washes away from him the sins of the past.
By the way, it is worth noting that the tandem DiCaprio-Hunsu is simply flawless. Although they contrast externally, but internally they make us understand that everyone is human, regardless of skin color, religion and so on. It is in the inner content of the characters to look for the hidden meaning of the film.
And open is the horrors of war, it is meanness and spitting on other people's lives in the quest for enrichment. The scenes with children shooting from a Kalashnikov assault rifle, who are under the influence of propaganda and drugs, looked not that scary, but with great horror that the hair stood on end, but in fact Blood Diamond is not a horror movie, it is the realities of our present life. To the frenzy brought "starch collar", those who, remaining on the sidelines, fed the war in order to buy precious stones for pennies. One of them was performed by Michael Sheen, he only has a couple of lines, but Zwick did everything so that when he saw his hands shaking with anger.
"Blood Diamond" - a film that, apparently, is staged almost without embellishment. Through the eyes of the two main characters, we see reality, and what we are told makes us think, makes us empathize and support the characters of the film. I recommend everyone to see this picture, it is not built on colorful shootouts, the tape is important as a thematic analysis of the current state of affairs on our planet.

I am a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio’s work, so it will be very difficult to evaluate the film objectively. Of course, you can separately disassemble the directing, cinematography, script, staging, acting, of course. But we all know that cinema is not a mechanic, all its components can only be evaluated inseparably from each other, it is a holistic perception that is very important for understanding what the creator of the film wanted to convey to us. With this approach, cinema is easier to evaluate: sensory perception is always easier than logical justification, but it becomes immeasurably difficult to explain and argue your position. I really liked the movie. I liked the shooting, Leonardo DiCaprio, the soundtrack, directing individual moments and some thoughts.
Idea. The idea is very good, original. The story revolves around Danny Archer, a smuggler who specializes in the black diamond market. Illegal diamonds mined by slave labor, sometimes by children, have been a hot topic in South Africa for centuries. And people like Archer have always taken advantage of the region's traditionally precarious position of power for personal gain. Of course, these are calculating, cruel people who work only for themselves. And in the film, the smuggler is shown exactly as it should be, he is tough, sometimes disliked, in general realistic. This character is spelled out very well, in all his actions there is a general direction - the direction of profit. Leo did it very well. It is nice to see him in the role of a strong, confident person. Normally, his character is beaten as soon as it comes to hand-to-hand, and there was no limit to my joy when I saw that Danny Archer could count ribs. Obviously, the writers paid special attention to this character, most likely the role was written under Leonardo from the very beginning. But not only the wonderful play of Leo, which makes you feel sorry for even such a nefarious person at first, I liked in this film. Suddenly, Jimon Huns performed. He was lucky because the role of Solomon is a great start as a serious second-to-first actor. It is the business union of two such different, completely incomparable people that makes the picture so original. We wouldn't like another mid-range action movie about everyone looking for a diamond and a father looking for a son. But this authenticity, which arises due to a very non-trivial shooting location and the proscenium with a children's army, draws a rather average plot, like the heaps of summer blockbusters shot for one year in 80-90.
By the way, the action scenes are quite cheerful and do not bother with the useless running-shooting with the ridiculous cross-sightedness of everyone who shoots at the main character, in this film there is excitement for the hero, for each shot, since one of the clichés of average militants is an absolute certainty that the main character will not be killed, because without him the film will not be further, then it pleases that “Bloody Diamond” really has a nerve, you do not know where a stray bullet will go from the machine on weak children’s hands.
I did not like the love line, it is too sluggish and clearly present only as an auxiliary element of the disclosure of Archer. I would not agree that the plot is delayed, in general, everything is in its place.

All women love diamonds, but few people know how they are mined and what sometimes lies behind this charming shine. Edward Zwick's political thriller "Blood Diamond", the plot of which is partly based on the events in South Africa during the reign of President Taylor (and not only him), reveals to the viewer a piece of terrifying truth. The director deliberately shows in the film the horror of the civil war and the apocalypse of human greed.
In this film, Leonardo DiCaprio played one of his best roles. It is through his eyes that the viewer will see everything that happens in the film and his character will gradually change, recognizing the real value of these shiny stones. For this role, DiCaprio was deservedly nominated for an Academy Award, but she again eluded him.
Djimon Honsu played his character, the key in the intrigue of the film, no less magnificently, creating a very successful duet with DiCaprio.
Although Jennifer Connelly is unusual to see in an action-filled film, she played her role with brilliance, adding a bit of feminine sensuality and tenderness to the film.
The film has a magnificent and tense plot, which makes the painting by Edward Zwick a real masterpiece of its genre. It is impossible to break away from the film and you can not miss a minute in it.
The atmosphere of this thriller is created not only by excellent directing, but also by the dynamic work of the operator Eduardo Serra, which created an unforgettable effect of presence in the film. And the soundtrack of James Newton Howard just perfect for the film.
So, I recommend this strong and truthful thriller to all fans of the genre. In addition, the picture makes you think about many things, because “Blood Diamond” should be seen and appreciated by every viewer.
