To tell the truth, I was left with strange feelings after watching the historical drama "1895" directed by Chi-yu Hung. I love Asian historical films, but this one was one of the weakest.
The main drawback of the picture, in my opinion, is that the film turned out to be rather boring, drawn-out and with a slowly developing plot. Although the story itself was, in general, not bad.
The film takes place in 1895, when Japanese troops, after the victory over China, landed on the island of Taiwan (which under the terms of the peace treaty became part of the Japanese Empire). However, there were those who did not intend to become a vassal of the land of the Rising Sun, and hastened to join the ranks of resistance fighters.
Despite the fact that the main roles were played by actors, who I did not know before, I cannot single out anyone. And because of the abundance of actors, almost no one remembered and did not attract attention.
In general, it turned out a rather mediocre Taiwan ribbon. If someone loves war movies but with minimal violence, 1895 is likely to appeal. So, in principle, I do not recommend spending time watching.
