Boring film adaptation There was a brother and sister in the same kingdom. They had a mother-in-law who seemed to be the worst. She bewitched their father, appropriated all the wealth to herself, and shared with her own crooked daughter. And the unborn children decided to bring down from the light. Having guessed that they would not live with this sorceress, the brother and sister fled from the city to the forest. But they did not take into account the power of evil magic, which turned the brother into a deer. The children found an abandoned hut in the forest and began to live in it. I don't know how long it's been, but the king came to this hut. I saw a beautiful girl, fell in love, and got married. This is not the end of the story...
The Grimm brothers' tale of the same name is reproduced almost verbatim. However, the creators of "Brother and Sister" added to the plot a few very comic characters, among which - the court gamekeeper of the king and his daughter. A rather interesting narrative is spoiled, however, by a very meager budget, and the straightforward play of the actors. It feels like watching a production of a provincial amateur theater collective. And this applies not so much to the performers (with their frequent replay and curvature on camera), as to all the attributes of the fairy tale. The magic eye is a small round aquarium, all magic is a simple wave of the twig. The city is named only two or three houses, with enviable consistency repeated on the screen. And all the people of the Queen - eight people. It’s a little too small for even the smallest kingdom. If it were not for the red robe of the ruler, the local lord could be confused with any other character of the film.
I didn’t see any character in the characters. All of them are divided into brightly positive and brightly negative. Agree, for modern production is boring. Even in the plot of the same name by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the heroes plot plots (the sorcerer and her crooked daughter), show courage (the queen), and are sad (the sister). All this makes the plot of the film very predictable and clumsy. Quite strange, considering that the film was directed by Wolfgang Eisler – who later released other and quite successful adaptations of the Grimm brothers’ fairy tales: “Standed Shoes” (2011) and “The Magic Tree” (2016). Better to read the original.
Filming took place in July 2008 in the ancient castle of Kündorf (built in 1315) and in the monastery of Vesra in Thuringia. The film was filmed as part of the project “Tales Box”: “6 with one stroke” (Sechs auf einen Streich).
