A story that will make you wonder and a little bored.
This film is just the case when you get great pleasure from the acting. But the plot is weak, the narrative is delayed in places. Sometimes you feel like you’re watching a documentary. But everything in order.
Five years ago, the Fox Hunter was added to the “I’m going to watch” section, and the desire to close the gap was finally there. Before watching the movie, I didn’t study the cast, I didn’t watch the trailer, I didn’t read anything about the movie. It was very interesting to watch the events on the screen.
The picture, based on real events, tells the viewer about the relationship of the American millionaire with freestyle wrestlers. I was amazed by the actor who played John Dupont. This is completely dependent on the opinion of the mother is already an elderly person. Due to his condition, he compensates for complexes and dissatisfaction with himself. DuPont reaps the laurels of others, demonstrating its importance in the success of individual professional athletes. I was wondering why I hadn’t seen this actor anywhere. I was surprised to hear that Steve Karel played him. Good makeup, great acting.
Chennig Tatum and Mark Ruffalo have also done a tremendous job in preparing for their roles. For six months, they were engaged in intense struggle. Watching the Schultz brothers during training and competitions is a pleasure. It's like they're professional athletes. The element of drama in their relationship evokes empathy.
Very interesting first half of the film. There is a slight whipping up of alarm thanks to the strange antics of millionaire John Dupont. But over time, it all tires. Some scenes are too long. You expect more interesting twists from the story than there are in the movie. But given that the film is based on real events, you can make the plot a discount. And only thanks to the acting I want to watch the final.

Edition 'Batenka, yes, you are a transformer' writes us: 'American multimillionaire John Dupont considered himself the Dalai Lama, came to the neighbor bloodied in a tank, ordered to dismantle the walls of his mansion in search of corpses and ghosts and forced athletes to play with him "in the face." Many turned a blind eye to his progressive madness, because the heir to a million-dollar fortune was a generous philanthropist and patron of amateur and student sports in the United States.'
Starting with the next sentence, it is better not to read anything, otherwise you will spoil the whole movie. The film is inflating, picky and detailed showing how it came to what it came.
This is an excursion to the place of collision of spheres, and three at once. The first is the world of that same DuPont, a billionaire in his head, who got it into his head that if you throw money into sports talent long enough, then dreams will become reality. The second is the Olympic medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling, David Schultz (played by Mark Ruffalo, by coincidence in another film playing a lawyer fighting DuPont), a happy family man and a wise man. The third is Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum), the eternal ' number two' in the shadow of a more successful and talented brother dreaming of recognition. The brothers wrestlers, by the way, played so matchlessly that both actors probably had to hire a personal trainer after the film, who would teach them after the film to walk as if they were chimpanzees, bowling balls carrying a golf ball without using their hands.
All three worlds begin to collide and crack their foreheads no worse than the shells of Easter eggs, when it becomes clear that two of the three want unattainable things, and it can not end well. The film with shivering insight takes us through the maze, which is the inner worlds of the characters - the feeling that you look ' in the animal world' where the actions of everyone often do not require any comment - everything is played, chewed and told in such a way that it seems that there is a voiceover that does not stop for a second. The vast majority of the film is filled with a lack of dialogue. Every dialogue is a carving of history in stone. Each line weighs a ton. Every glance casts a spark when faced with others.
And that's the film's biggest problem. It's long, heavy, detailed, and unbearably unpleasant. For me ' The Fox Hunter' was a tough test of patience, so despite the excellent cameramanship, directorship, scripting and acting, I can’t give him a high score. This film did not give me pleasure, although thanks to it I was able to understand exactly what was in DuPont’s head, which allowed what happened in 'Foxhunter' and what happened in 'Dark Waters'. This is a dark page in the history of mankind, worthy of a separate slab of granite.

If you like to watch two hours of unhurried psychological tragedy unfold – you can not afford to miss this film.
For others, this is a test that they do not need in their lives.
So, this film is about a near pitching, engaged in the same sport that even more knocks out his brain.
Well, immediately during the ridiculous training, it is striking that the hero of Ruffalo is much smaller and weaker than his brother, but at the expense of ridiculous gluings he defeats him.
He, as always, plays a kind and intelligent man, so in his role as the best fighter on the planet does not believe.
But Tatum copes with the role of a short-sighted athlete, who is easily manipulated to the highest level.
He is alone, and this is used by an unknown coach from a wealthy dynasty and invites him to the team he will personally lead.
And the older brother refuses all these benefits. He is transmitted in a strong contrast to the younger: he has a large happy family, to which he is strongly attached, and unlike the younger, sports for him is not in the first place. That’s why the scene in their house with the coach was so heartwarming.
We are beginning to discover that the rich man has a lot of problems. “I had an only friend as a child. At 16 I found out that my mother paid him to be friends with me.
Because of something incomprehensible in the middle of the film begins to play sad music, the champion begins to lose and sniff cocaine, which is unfounded and contrary to his own beliefs.
Also, for some undisclosed reason, the boss freaks out and wants to get his older brother, although he previously assured that this was not necessary. And for an even more strange reason, the older brother comes, although he has repeatedly said that this will not happen.
But only recently the coach persuaded to forget about his older brother, and now he again demands to see him. He comes, and now the youngest with a brainwashed simply can not see him.
Because of this, a ridiculous feud with his brother begins, and then a very predictable series of defeats - the film turns into a template banalism. But it’s only the middle of the movie, and I kept watching it in the hope that now the passions will go, but... It wasn't there.
Follow the storyline of the main character is not interesting. The only thing you care about is his older brother. You don’t want to look at the coach at all, and he, by the way, is not even a coach, but a sponsor at most: he doesn’t do any work, and he has the biggest personality problems.
He’s a worthless loser, even though the trailer showed him from a charismatic side, and we’ve been waiting for him to start showing his tough character. But with 20 minutes left, we knew it wasn't going to happen, and we were just waiting for it to be over. Everyone relaxed, and no one expected what happened in the last minute. This has been a positive development.
For that plus a point. Don’t watch this movie anyway!
I have repeatedly stated that films based on real events have always captured my attention, especially sports films.
This film 'Fox Hunter' I first watched a few years ago, then I did not understand the essence of the film very well and did not particularly remember the film, but as soon as I became more and more involved in the cinema, I decided to review the film again and take it apart in detail.
First of all, the film attracted three very familiar and popular actors, such as Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, and Steve Carell. Each of them had a very serious preparation for the film. Ruffalo and Tatum - physical and wrestling training, Carell - psychological.
Chennigg Tatum and Mark Ruffalo played the roles of famous fighters-brothers - Mark and Dave Schultz. Mark and Dave are freestyle wrestlers, Olympic champions, world champions, Pan American champions. One of the brothers, Dave, is sadly no longer alive. Dave was married and had two children, he was a kind of mentor and teacher of his younger brother Mark, he protected him from negative society, from drugs and alcohol, but the most important thing is that they trained together and competed in wrestling competitions. Mark at the same time was a little withdrawn, sometimes felt feelings of anger and aggression, but was a talented and gifted fighter.
Steve Carell - in the role of multimillionaire John Dupont, the heir to one of the richest clans in America.
DuPont himself was also fond of wrestling and on his vast territory he built a training base with a sports arena, with four wrestling grounds and a swimming pool. So he created Team Foxcatcher from wrestlers who lived on his estate, which also included the Schultz brothers. Mark first joined his team and he and DuPont even became close, but DuPont's oddities forced him to bring him to Dave's training camp. DuPont, an unbalanced man, perceived the struggle for influence over Mark as a personal challenge from Dave, and in January 1996, at a moment of insanity, he kills Dave with three shots on the grounds of his estate.
All three actors did a very good job, were able to show their characters as believable as possible, and if Tatum and Ruffalo showed themselves well in terms of skills and fighting techniques, then Steve Carell showed his character psychologically depressed and unbalanced, his John DuPont really inspired some fear and ambiguity of his character and behavior with his calmness and silence. Also a separate point for makeup DuPont, as I did not recognize makeup DuPont Steve Carell.
As a result, 'The Fox Hunter' is a real psychodrama with a tragic end, slow, gloomy, protracted, leaving behind many questions in the motives and actions of John Dupont.
A rare film that I watched, probably after a few dozen attempts.
Watching this movie was torture for me, as I read or heard the background of the film in advance, learned about the real events that formed the basis of the plot. The tragedy is truly heartbreaking. As a result, I waited for the outcome, as if sitting opposite the gun trigger with the feeling that a “shot” was about to happen.
I've been trying to watch this movie for years, to be honest. It’s always hard for me to make films based on real events. I remember watching a video on the news showing a shootout. There people killed each other almost with pistols from a distance of about ten meters. I think they were ex-servicemen. You know, they're like, you know, sitting down and standing up. And then they shot each other. This picture is in my brain and I remember it periodically. I don't know why God did this to me. Probably just a reminder of human cruelty.
This film is about her... about human cruelty, about dislike, about hidden hatred, about insanity, about the thirst for profit and that this “thirst” actually poisons life. The profit here can be both monetary and ordinary thirst for vanity. But it must be understood that these base feelings are usually encrypted under some other, more God-pleasing. And then I remember the words from the Bible:
And no wonder, because Satan himself takes the form of an angel of light.
(Second Corinthians 11:14)
But now I’ll get away from the painful script and move on to directing, actors and the entourage of cinema. Everything here is brilliant from the makeup of Steve Carell to the wrestling skills of Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. I liked it. I don't know what else to say. Thank you KinoPoisk and Yandex - watched the film here by subscription "Yandex Plus".

The picture of the director Bennet Miller at first glance may seem a typical story about the sports path of the hero-athlete, about his self-overcoming, difficult life path. However, this tape tells the story of several heroes who are passionately wanting to find their place in this life, simultaneously gaining respect from others and especially those close to them.
Multimillionaire John Dupont performed by Steve Carell invites to his family estate talented but in the shadow of his older brother wrestler Mark Schultz, whose role was played by Channing Tatum, in order to cooperate with him to prepare other wrestlers for the 1988 Olympic Games. Getting huge trust from a 'sports philanthropist' Mark achieves good results in preparation for the reporting event, winning the World Freestyle Wrestling Championship in the course of the action. However, soon a chain of interconnected events leads to a deterioration of relations between new friends, leading to a tragic result.
The significant value of this film is the acting work of the three main characters. The actors who embodied them on the screen did a great job, which was later appreciated by critics and confirmed in numerous nominations of various film awards.
The character of Steve Carell, being part of the influential American dynasty of DuPonts and possessing a multimillion-dollar fortune, has a clear inferiority complex, considering it his duty to somehow contribute to the development of his country, as his ancestors did in difficult historical stages for the States. Hating the “horse” hobbies of his mother and tired of his previous numerous hobbies, he finds a new entertainment, which was the preparation of the best fighters to win the next Olympic Games. Attracting Mark Schultz for this, he realizes his dream, finding a long-awaited friend and son in the face of a young fighter. However, dissatisfied with the negative attitude of his mother about this event and slightly brazen Mark, he resorts to the help of his older brother Dave Schultz, finally cooling down to his last live “toy”. John Dupont really seems like a grown-up kid with a huge fortune and powerful connections, thanks to which he revives his dreams, skillfully manipulating ordinary people. The colossal work done by Steve Carell and makeup experts makes us talk about this film character as one of the best in the last decade.
Channing Tatum’s hero tries to prove to himself that he has some value without his older brother, just like he does freestyle wrestling. Accepting the offer of DuPont and achieving intermediate successes with him, Mark feels satisfaction from his independent work, deliberately departing from the all-consuming guardianship of his older brother. However, due to the earlier mentioned circumstances, he loses the trust and respect of his rich patron and is forced to re-accept (albeit not immediately) the strong hand of his selfless and deeply loving brother. Perhaps the best dramatic role in the career of Channing Tatum allows a different look at his acting capabilities.
Dave Schultz, who was embodied on the screen by the incomparable Mark Ruffalo, is not only the older brother and head coach for Mark, but also the most important thing for understanding their relationship.

Already the third attempt of Bennett Miller - the director does not give up hope to take the Oscar for the best film, using for the third time the formula of shooting, known as the "autobiography" of famous people, which is rich this year: "Sniper", "The Theory of Everything", "Imitation Game", "Selma", and now also "Fox Hunter". Definitely, of his three paintings, the last came out the most successful, and although it did not take the desired gold statuette, it caused the recognition of many viewers and critics.
The story, based on real events, tells us about two Olympic champions in freestyle wrestling Mark and Dave Schultz, as well as about a man - a multimillionaire who in these years became their sponsor John du Pont. The main characters in the film are brothers, but for some reason I want to talk about the last character.
John is the only heir to the du Pont family, which earned its fortune by selling gunpowder and weapons during the American Civil War, and later the family was famous for breeding thoroughbred horses that won many competitions. John, however, was indifferent to the activities of his family. Not being a stupid man, he had a degree in zoology and even wrote several books, but most of all he wanted to have achievements in sports. "Foxcatcher" or "Foxcatcher" is the name of the farm that John built for all-around training, which includes jumping, sword fighting, pistol shooting, swimming and cross-country. Soon he lost interest in this sport and his eyes fell on freestyle wrestling. In the 80s, the US government paid very little attention to wrestlers - compatriots, du Pont decides that it is he who is destined to lift this sport from his knees in the country. And then the Schultz brothers come to the fore.
While John du Pont set a goal of recruiting the brothers to compete in the upcoming Seoul Olympics, they had a rather quiet existence. But if Dave had a contract, he had a family and they settled down perfectly, Mark, although he is also an Olympic champion, remained in the shadow of his brother and by and large was only sparring - a partner for him. In this regard, Mark without hesitation agrees to the multimillionaire's offer to join his team "TeamFOXCATCHER" and train under his leadership, or rather at the expense of his funds.
It is impossible not to notice how the director tries to present us with a story that at first glance tells about another sport, but in fact about the complex relationship between three people, describing their character in detail.
It is said that when God decides to punish a man, he deprives him of reason. I think loneliness is the same madness: you are completely alone, not physically, but morally, no one understands you, no one will help you, everyone avoids you. So what's so amazing about John du Pont's character? After all, he had never had friends since birth, and even a boy (son of a family driver), whom he took as a friend as a child, was bought by his mother. Strangely enough, John was well aware of how low his mother’s act was, but after getting used to getting whatever he wanted, he kept buying friends. Not infrequently we see the premises of a homosexual nature in the communication between du Pont and his protégé, and especially with Marc, which can also cause loneliness. And the last, but not the most important feature of the character, is trying to win the love of his mother.
Mark and Dave Schultz, although they are brothers, are completely different in nature. Mark is impetuous and hot, Dave is calm and calculating; the first tries to get recognition and someone’s love, which, by the way, unites him with a millionaire, the second – gives this love and tries to help everyone. For Mark, sport always comes first, for Dave, family and loved ones. Mark is just a sheep, Dave is a shepherd.
Words cannot convey how amazing it was to see the incarnation of those very people Mark Schultz, Dave Schultz and John du Pont, performed by Channing Tatkm, Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell. This unexpected trio did an amazing job. Especially the last one. On the actor, who in the past played only comedic roles, put so much makeup that to recognize him was not that difficult, impossible. However, Carell and with such a mask gave out the necessary emotions on camera, immediately noticeable long preparation for living in the image, for many years this is the most memorable antihero. "Call me the golden eagle!" Channing Tatum, for all my dislike for this pretty face, coped perfectly with the role given to him. Of course, giving him an Oscar for Best Actor would have been too much of a gesture for him, but Channing could have surpassed himself in my eyes. As for Ruffalo, in my opinion, he suits the roles that he plays in pairs with someone. Yes, on the set, as in the film, he is considered older than Tatum, both in experience and skill, but if not on the set of Tatum, I would not be able to appreciate his talent. Interesting fact: the black-rimmed glasses worn by Ruffalo in the film belonged to the real Dave Schultz, they were borrowed by the wife of a famous wrestler.
Most of all in the picture, my attention was attracted, oddly enough, by dialogue. The highlight is that there were almost no verbal dialogues, or they did not have much substance. Most of the interaction between the characters took place in body language. It’s hard to understand what a character’s mind is, how he feels, but when two people start sparring and start fighting, that’s where their inner state is seen. A simple slap in the face says much more than dozens of spoken words, the hand and facial expressions of the face put on the shoulder allow us to read other people's thoughts. If this incident is the intentional reception of the director, then I say to him “bravo!”
In the end, I liked the movie because it broke my expectations. Initially, I had no idea what he was about, later I thought it was a sports drama with elements of motivation similar to Rocky, but in fact it is a very tragic film, many even attribute to him the genre of a thriller. I will advise him to watch, but do not wait, but do not expect bright emotions, rather, on the contrary, you will feel rather depressed, but you will not remain indifferent for sure.

In general, to summarize, we can say that this is a good, high-quality and thoughtful, but not the most dynamic film about a very sad page of world sports. 8 out of 10 Original
Fear of remaining forever sparring with the partner of the more successful, more human and intelligent wrestler Dave Schultz, part-time older brother, leads Mark to Fox Catcher, the estate of eccentric multimillionaire John DuPont.
Ornithologist, philatelist and philanthropist. He is the only person on Forbes’ list of 400 richest people ever convicted of murder. Without even delving into the spoilers, ignoring the chronicles of the tragedy of 1996, surrendering to a stingy film narrative, you feel that this story can not have a good ending. The game of Steve Carell, who is impossible to recognize by the skillfully superimposed nose, leaves no doubt. No less convincing Mark Rufallo, who played Dave Schultz, and did not think that one day I would say it Channing Tatum, revealed himself as an actor, and maybe one hundred percent fit into the image of an easily suggestible pitcher. The picture is surprising in that all three actors keep the viewer in suspense for two hours, and this is almost in the absence of an inflating soundtrack, floating frames, the vicissitudes of the plot narrative, in short, any auxiliary picture-forming factors. Exceptional acting. Pursuing a high goal - the glorification of America with victories of wrestlers at the Olympic Games - DuPont symbolically asserts himself, and the financial situation (the wrestlers are actually on his maintenance) allows you to build a coach, father, eagle. Director Bennett Miller, best known for his work Capote, proved that black can be white. You hope you're fooled. What it seemed. Is it a joke, a deeply respected, educated man from an ancient and rich family turned out to be a hopeless schizophrenic, shooting at a person for no reason?
10 out of 10.
His characters are very adult, with a lot of problems, complexes, internal conflicts. I was amazed at how Tatum played an Olympic champion, to whom the gold medal did not give anything. In his character, I saw a man with a lot of inferiority complexes living in the shadow of his brother. Dave is better than Mark in everything, as an athlete and as a person. I really liked Ruffalo’s character, and I also found Tatum’s character unpleasant. How low he fell. John was the key to comfort for him, and for that he was willing to indulge him in everything. The loser is angry at his poverty and at his less fortunate brother.
John gave me absolutely incomprehensible feelings. It was as if I was watching a time bomb. It wasn’t a typical Carrell image, so I was very surprised at who he was. A person born in a family where he has everything, but at the same time nothing that he would like. Burdened by his surname and family values, detached from such concepts as friendship and love, he wanted to realize his dream. But all the burden that he carried all his life affected his sanity and mental stability.
At one point, Mark became disgusted with who he had become and wanted to leave without wanting to live that life anymore. I loved the moment Dave came to talk to John for his brother. The finale really impressed me. I knew John wasn’t sustainable, but I didn’t think he would blame Dave for all of Mark’s failures and his departure. I’m sorry that the film didn’t show Mark’s reaction to all of this.
I want to applaud Bennett Miller for directing not just a sports drama, but a drama about the relationship of three people on the basis of sports. It was as if I felt this tense thread of narrative, and it was not clear to me which of the characters was pulling more for it. Now I will take Tatum more seriously. He has shown that he can play serious roles. Carrell has also kept surprising me lately.
Someone will definitely get bored with this movie. Some people think that the plot is very measured. Yes, it is, but because of this we can become more imbued with heroes. If I removed the background music, I would easily believe that I was not watching movies, but the lives of real people. I heard people around me say that this movie is nothing. And for me, this film is about conflict, inferiority, anger, resentment, shame, madness, love, fall.
Bravo!
I’m not going to write here that the movie is awful, boring, or like the trailer is much more interesting. Don't be banal and repeat yourself. I gradually come to the conclusion that I do not understand something in the cinema (or in life), since I do not see an explanation why there are so many positive reviews of The Hunter.
I remember when I went to the movies to see this masterpiece (which is how it was positioned by critics), having read advertisements and inspired by Oscar nominations. We’re set to have a “mental orgasm,” so to speak, because we love smart movies. Well, to put it mildly, they were upset. It's been a year. The movie was on TV. I think, let me see again, maybe the mood was wrong at the cinema, or maybe the brains grew over the year to understand why this film was made in principle. No, it didn't. And the reason is the same - you fall asleep faster than you grasp the thread of the plot. How can you make a movie where nothing happens and then get a bunch of rave reviews – yes, it really takes a lot of directorial talent. So still manage actors decent to make play a set of primitive actions – well, definitely take off the hat!
I'll give Fox Hunter points just because he's hooked a lot of people, which means he has a right to be. I am ready to admit that I do not understand something, since my opinion is so diametrically different from the majority. But for me, this film is the apotheosis of boredom and the top of the chart of overrated cinema.
3 out of 10.
He who has never been loved has never lived.
If you immediately formulate the idea of the film, then there is no need to write further. But that's how I want to start. And then you get stuck. And to be in it with the main character (the philanthropist-eagle), who gave a rare feeling, for which it is only worth watching movies: “It was with me, it was me.” That's me.
I am sure that there are more disliked than frankly, completely, sincerely, without pain and any conditions of loved ones there. I am sure that the dislike brought to the limit, which so magically attracts in the lyrics of Lermontov and in the works of other talented singles, is the core of the film (megalomania only pretends to them), that it is she who is the basis of poetic radiation and strange cold beauty of Bennett Miller’s “Fox Hunter”.
The hero of Steve Carell is a person in whom something important is initially destroyed, from whom everything is taken away (wealth is a mirage of wealth). The poor man, crushed by “wheels of all excesses”, and a homeless orphan with a living mother (“between all rejections there is no such orphanage in the world!”, M. Tsvetaeva. "Praise the rich."
Home is where the people are. His house is a cage, a box, a showcase, a trophy hall, anything but space for life. A dull, dead, motionless, closed, desolate and loveless place. It smells of money and dead birds, it is inhabited by the ghosts of ruined foxes and another ghost ... the boy to whom his mother bought a friend.
Friendship and love are the first illusions that this boy has lost. And when he learned of the betrayal of his friend and mother, all feelings fell from him once and for all. And not to be defenseless, he invented the armor of his own glory, greatness, splendor, invincibility, infallibility, wisdom. However, it is worth multiplying the list. In a dead world, these are just things with price tags on them.
Friendship and love that deceived and betrayed the 16-year-old boy suddenly overtook him in adulthood. Unexpectedly and impossiblely, life burst into his dead world - brothers, one of whom - disliked - turned out to be like him.
But he already knew, he knew very well (from his relationship with his childhood friend and mother), that emotional ties entail coercion, lack of freedom, dependence on someone who then hurts, kills. Emotions, feelings shake the meager nothingness of the barren soul of Dupont. Warming the chilling heart at someone else's fire is too painful, painful for him. And not everything here explains envy, rather - the fear of addiction, the fear of believing someone, giving yourself - not money, but yourself - to another. As a result, one brother is cut off with a hard word, abruptly and permanently cut off. Another was killed by a seemingly unmotivated shot.
The motivation, however, is there. Got it! This unexpected shot is a shot at yourself. Someone I desperately wanted but could never be. Confident, strong, necessary, loved, joyful, alive. In myself, or rather in an unfulfilled dream of myself. It's also a suicide option. Especially suitable for someone who is already dead, like scraped birds, like figurine-turned trophies-foxes... like all these purchased statuses - philanthropist, coach, golden eagle of America - the cover of a terrible secret whose name is NOTHING - the dead emptiness.
Gertrude (mother) said to Hamlet (son): "You turned your eyes with your pupils into the soul, and there are spots of blackness everywhere." And they're not washed away! It's different. It's empty spots. And DuPont saw them. I saw how brave I was. I saw a movie about myself (before shooting at someone I wanted to be).
The network writes that the real DuPont suffered from narcissism, and therefore ordered such a self-glorifying film. I think it's different. One of the unsuccessful, albeit maniacally persistent attempts to prove that you really exist, that you are not the hero of your own dream, not a shadow of the former glory of your ancestors, guarding the covenants, not gaping hopelessness disappointment mother.
Steve Carell plays a weakness that mimics strength, power, influence. In general, he amazingly plays imitation, vainly masking himself with plastic masks, covering the emptiness, the terrible secret of his Nothing. Silence or little talk of action. Impeccable hand movements devoid of touch and the body demonstrating the freedom of a straitjacket. Semi-fermented plastic works in contrast to the superhuman message “I want to turn the world around!” To glorify America! Save the nation! The most dynamic, most active Carell accurately and subtly drew a faded impostor, moulding like a faded pattern. No scope, no brightness. Everything in his hero is very gray, motionless, inexpressive.
But beneath this gray shell there are gaping depths: darkness, stench, shame, fear, madness, the existential ailment of non-existence. And there is no decadent or satire in this. The living pain of a dead soul.
When I started watching the film, I didn’t know anything about the many international awards and nominations it had (including 3 Golden Globe nominations), nor about the film’s most true story of the relationship within the American freestyle wrestling team on the eve of and during the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The film begins as a typical sports drama about difficulties and their heroic overcoming on the way to achievements, but as it develops, it changes into something completely unusual and original with an absolutely unpredictable ending.
I admired the work of the writers and director of the film. The peculiarity of this picture is that here the more important for understanding the essence of events is not the text of the words of the script and not the images of certain actions of the heroes, but the subtext, that is, what happened in their souls and minds against the background of these events and led ultimately to such a denouement. The actors played brilliantly. Steve Carell was so good and so completely unrecognizable, unlike his standard images of forty-year-old hardworking losers, that it was only in the credits of the film that I was convinced that DuPont was played by him, because in the course of the action, despite the relative resemblance, I stubbornly did not recognize him and wondered about the name of the performer of this role. Perfectly got used to the image of his hero and Mark Ruffalo, also depicted a significantly different appearance from his usual screen image. Well, Channing Tatum also perfectly conveyed the image of the seemingly stupid and modest wrestler Mark Schultz, around whom the story revolved in its beginning. The rest of the actors in the film were for furniture.
As a result, I will write that the film bribed me personally primarily with its psychological and certain illogicality in the development of the plot, which at the end of the film resulted in an unexpected finale.
9 out of 10
Very boring movie. But I tried not to lose the thread of the film and find something good in it. And I found some useful meaning for myself, but this meaning could be presented differently, somehow more fun and interesting.
The film is based on real events and tells about two brothers Schultz, who fell into the hands of capricious rich man John Dupont.
If you describe how well the film is made, then it seems that what the creators of the picture intended to do, it turned out. The actors played as they should.
Steve Carell, who plays John DuPont, was able to show all the emotions and experiences that have overcome his hero throughout time.
Channing Tatum was perfectly able to show such a stubborn and submissive wrestler who does not shine with intelligence, but does not want to shine with them. Looking at him, he sometimes feels sorry for his hero.
But the film is probably not intended for a wide audience. Prolonged scenes without words and the 130-minute duration of the film will not be mastered by every viewer. It seems to me that the tape could be shortened for an hour without losing any storyline. Just by cutting down on monotonous scenes and bringing in some kind of dynamic. Maybe it would have been better.
In general, I would not particularly recommend the film to anyone for viewing, except for people engaged in wrestling.
5 out of 10
Multimillionaire John DuPont organizes on the territory of his estate a complex for training in freestyle wrestling for future participants of the Olympics. Among the guests are the famous Schultz brothers. But ambition, jealousy and envy lead to tragic consequences.
Opinion
“Fox Hunter” is a film about unfulfilled hopes, envy and ambition.
"Fox Hunter" is a film in which Channing Tatum plays a non-brilliant wrestler. And you know what? He looks great! I don’t know if Mark Schultz, whom Channing plays in this film, really made such an impression, but the character played by this actor clearly looks without a special spark of intelligence in his eyes.
Not very pleased that the hero is not so similar with his anthropometric data to the real Mark Schultz. That was 173 cm, and Chennig is more than 10 cm taller (185 cm).
His brother, the famous American wrestler Dave Schultz, is played by the rocking Mark Ruffalo. And he looks pretty good in that role. At least I'm used to this actor's completely different roles. Dave Schultz was 177 cm tall and taller than his brother. Mark Ruffalo's height is 173. Now imagine what Mark and Channing look like in this movie in the same scenes when training, and how different from the people they play? This is the question of the selection of actors.
Steve Carell plays the infamous multimillionaire John Dupont. Unfortunately, as an actor did not make up, even remote similarity with a real person could not be achieved. It still seems that either now some animals will run up to the character and make him build an ark, or he will now go to some office and soak up a stupid joke there. Because of the makeup of Carrell's game, frankly, not very visible.
The movie is boring. Long scenes designed to reveal the characters are sometimes tiresome. I want to go for tea 15 times per movie.
At the same time, it can be called interesting. You can watch. You can even emphasize something for yourself. Moreover, the emotions and motives of the characters in “Hunter” lie on the surface, and you do not have to guess anything.
Especially after watching read about the tragedy that formed the basis of the film. I won’t spoil it here, but I can say that the film is a bit different from the most famous version. Or rather, it puts on the foreground other things than those I read about.
There's also a cool self-flagellation scene in the film because of a failure at Channing Tatum's competition. I've seen it 5 times - brutally!
Verdict
You can watch, as I have already written. Not a bad movie. But a bit boring.
From the first informative information, it was clear that we were waiting for a leisurely sports drama, with an excellent cast and a story based on real tragic events. The first thirty minutes with the involvement of trying not to miss the small details of what is happening - you begin to collect images of the three main characters in your head, delve into the world of professional wrestling, adjust the mood to the faded landscapes of the Dupont estate. Nominations for a number of prestigious film awards speak for themselves, so in this plot sluggishness you look for classic motifs of high-art dramas. Cling to the features of the operator, the interaction of key characters in the frame.
At the end of that half an hour, with regret, you realize that you are stuck in a boring and monotonous story, in which the initial fuse and enthusiasm finally stalls. The plot of the film is based on the true story of two famous American athletes and a philanthropist who unequivocally showed support for wrestlers in the 1980-1990s. The work of director Bennet Miller managed to create an oppressive atmosphere on the screen, but did not adapt the real story to the viewer. Non-banal, in fact, the relationship of the characters, presented in the most boring emotionless way, where, moreover, from scene to scene, there is no development of characters. Carell is surprisingly good in a dramatic role, but his character is so phlegmatic and viscous that you quickly get tired of his appearance in the frame. Ruffalo looks convincing in the role of his older brother, but Tatum’s play causes, unfortunately, some irritation. It is not in my habit to describe films so briefly, but there is nothing more to say.

Mark always amazed me with his performance, but this time I heard a lot about him. I was previously familiar with Bennett Miller's work as Moneyball, Capote. But it turned out to be a true sporting masterpiece.
Let's start with the script. The heroes are well-developed. The words of the brothers are really like the words of real brothers who care about each other, and the fact that your brother was better than you, you feel anger for him. But the most important aspect is the constant silence and anticipation that puts pressure on the viewer, forcing the viewer to plunge into the complex world of underrated athletes. The rhythm is very good, action by action, all dialogues have a certain meaning, and the script is sustained at the level of sports drama. Sometimes you even want to turn off the movie so it doesn't put pressure on your psyche, but you watch because you're interested.
Especially it should be noted the constant presence of a little blue and dark color, which also gives the desired atmosphere to the film, as well as background music. Sometimes the sound turns off, it turns on, as if you lost your thoughts because of what is happening.
What about acting? They all coped with it, each able to pass on the difficult fate of the wrestlers, not to mention Steve. His performance made the viewer hate DuPont, an arrogant self-love man, especially for his nose. And Mark showed a loving brother, a good family man, walking with one gait.
It's time to take stock. “Fox Hunter” is a beautiful film about athletes, which is not very common. The last such movie was Rocky. Excellent acting, sustained script created a good film. I'll play the movie.

The true story of professional wrestler, OI-84 gold medal winner Mark Schultz, who is preparing for the next Games in the hope of emerging from the shadow of his great brother, wrestler Dave Schultz. Multimillionaire John Dupont invites Mark to prepare on the grounds of his estate, but is refused by Dave. After that, DuPont begins his paranoid game, which does not bode well for both brothers.
Tagline: “This story shocked the world.” Maybe that was the case in the '80s. There are people like John Dupont nowadays. The film can only shock the ending. Yes, the film is good, purposeful and indicative, but the main thing in it is the actors. That's the moment when the men's parties drag the whole movie. Channing Tatum (Mark) - I didn't think I would ever say this - is a good dramatic role. The guy who starred only in tearful melodramas, recently opened as a good comedy actor, and now also dramatic. He is currently working with Tarantino, so you should pay attention to him. The guy's growing up. John Dupont was played by the famous comedian Steve Carell, probably his main role in his career. No one's ever seen him like that! Yes, makeup is doing its job here, but one makeup doesn't get nominated for an Oscar or any other award. However, Mark Ruffalo’s best performance is playing Dave. Awesome work. I would call it "better to see." He was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. You can see how carefully the actors approached their roles (Tatum and Ruffalo spent six months wrestling, and Carell worked through all the videos and books about DuPont’s behavior).

This story started like this. There were two brothers, Dave and Mark Schultz. Their family was poor, so they had to make their own way in life. Through sports. The choice fell on freestyle. And they were good at it. So good that school-time tournament wins secured them a college scholarship. Then more. In 1983, Dave Schultz became world champion, and Mark – in 1985 and 1986. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, both brothers won gold in different weight categories (a small remark to the side - Soviet wrestlers in that Olympics did not participate because of the boycott). But all this did not bring much income, and I did not want to live in poverty. And then they turned up “evil genius collector-millionaire” John Dupont. He offered the brothers an offer they could not refuse. In other words, everyone has a price. But DuPont seduced them not only by their fees, but also by their prospects. “I realized that this time he started collecting wrestlers,” Schultz wrote. Subsequently, the millionaire will have schizophrenia, which will lead to the most sad consequences, or rather to the murder of Dave Schultz in 1996.
Now about the movie. I honestly expected more. The trailer was out of competition (an eternal setup with these trailers!) and the movie came out significantly worse. No, everything is fine with the directorial work of Bennet Miller, he knows how to shoot biographies ("Capote", "The Man Who Changed Everything") with both camera work and acting. I'll stop at the last one. The film is soloed by a trio of Tatum (Mark Schultz), Ruffalo (Dave Schultz) and Carell (Dupon). Everyone got the most out of themselves. And here you should not blame Channing that he clearly loses in his game to two other actors, because this is his maximum for sure. The guy tried very hard to show the sullen, withdrawn, unsociable Mark. How could I? But how good is Ruffalo. I really like to watch him play, good in every shot, reliable. And Carell, that eternal comedian, finally gave the drama. Siena Miller in the role of Dave’s wife is catastrophically small to appreciate her performance – but her minute appearances did not spoil the atmosphere. That’s what the film lacked. The film lacked a quality script. By the end, the movie sags. And that's why the script sags. Look, you'll see. Of course, the movie is worth watching. It’s one of the best movies of the 14th to hide. He is atmospheric, with a quality frame, with drama, with despair, with a beautiful acting. It is a pity that all the Oscars and globes flew by, but the palm branch for directing still did not pass. And yes, a bit of a scandal: there is a very ambiguous scene in the gym fight between DuPont and Mark, in which many saw a hint of a relationship of a certain warehouse between them, as a result of the real Mark Schultz, who is a consultant of the film, for a very long time “buzzed” in his Twitter: “This is a disgusting and offensive lie.” We all know that nothing stirs up interest in a film like a scandal, especially if this scandal is intimate content.
The next picture of Benette Miller “Fox Hunter” was released, which made a lot of noise, received high criticism at various festivals and spat the creators of the picture themselves.
This is a strange story told in this film. The story tells about the relationship between John Dupont and Mark Schultz, which ended very tragically. As in his previous films, Miller delves deeper into man and his psychology. The inner world of the characters for him always comes first.
"Fox Hunter" turned out to be a very reliable film. No wonder the story is based on real events. Mark Schultz himself spoke badly about the film, saying that the film is false. It's weird, because he's been advising the entire crew. Channing Tatum said after the premiere that Bennett Miller was a scoundrel who ruined his career, which is also very funny. The film was made together...
Of course, I can’t help but mention Steve Carell. It's just a bomb! Who would have thought that a comedian could handle such a role so flawlessly? They did an incredible job: makeup, gait, voice, gestures, look, movements - everything is done exactly. On the real Dupon he certainly does not look much like, but the essence of this man he conveyed one hundred percent.
The musical part of the film is beautiful. Although from the first seconds of the heavy sound of the cello, I know that “it will be bad”! But this is not embarrassing, but rather immerses in the atmosphere of the film. It feels like you’re in the ocean.
The film is hardly dynamic. It will be hard for someone to watch it. But the accents placed by the director do not suppress me, but rather attract me. And the main thing is that Miller does not make unequivocal conclusions. It gives everyone the opportunity to make their own choice, their own interpretation of history. It was important for me to feel the characters. Miller was able to reveal the nature of DuPont. I felt sorry for this man, and at the same time I was afraid of him. But only one thing is clear to me: how you educate, and so will grow. Dupont and could not be different, having been born in this family. It was the family that laid this pain in his heart, which took deep roots in him, turning him into an incomprehensible and complex creature.
The movie definitely needs to be watched. It gives a very good detailed picture of human nature. But at least watch it for the sake of Steve Carell!

This was a lifelong dream for which they worked to fulfill it. He has another whim and another opportunity to show himself, to show his importance to society, a whim embodied immediately.
In the center of the film is John Dupont, who invited Olympic wrestling champion Mark Schultz to his estate to prepare for the next Olympic games. But Mark didn’t really know what this millionaire, John Dupont, was.
This picture evokes a feeling of cold, penetrating to the bones. The film is gloomy, with a monotonous development of the plot. It even brings some fear. This picture makes you think and think.
John Dupont, philanthropist, scientist, heir to one of the largest chemical companies in the world. Almost everything he achieved was taken by him without difficulty, and he did not feel satisfied with it, because he did what he did not want. John struggles with himself and others all his life, trying to find significance in any field, because of his pampered upbringing.
Mark Schultz wants to be the best in the world. He wants to come out of the shadow of his older brother, to prove that he can succeed without his help, without advice. He, in turn, is the supporter of Mark, who supported him. Dave, the older brother, is also an Olympic champion who played the role of a loving brother, husband and just a great coach.
When these people came together during this period. They were struck, and unable to understand what was wrong, long recovered. Mark, after a certain influence of DuPont, lacked motivation and just the support of Dave. DuPont, who is somewhat paranoid about his personal life, destroys not only the brothers’ dreams, but also their lives.
Very interesting film. I can't remember watching a movie so deep and complicated. The movie Dogville came to mind.
If you are waiting for action, chase or love to the grave, then this movie is not for you.
But if you have something to think about in life, I recommend watching the movie.
The storyline, and there are two of them, both are great. The performance of the three main actors is great. Reincarnation is perfect. The film is very vital, the fate of the characters is tragic, but at the same time, bright sadness, as they say, remains after watching the film.
Steve Carell - totally unrecognizable! This is his most powerful role without a doubt! The game, I would say, is excellent. How much sadness and sadness, how much sorrow and loneliness in the eyes. It just doesn't make sense!
Mark Ruffalo is great! His transformation into a wrestler, a loving brother, a strong coach, a faithful husband - you can not put into words, you need to watch! His role is the brightest and most positive, and at first glance, the simplest. But after watching the film, his eyes pop up in memory when he pities his brother - how much love and understanding there is in them.
Channing's very cool, too. All those dances and super action movies showed him as a handsome and plastic guy. But in this movie, he's very different. Looking at him, you don't think he's handsome or even attractive. Some other feelings, feelings of empathy and regret come to the fore.

Imagine that you were born in a rich old dynasty, you grew up in complete security, having no problems, always getting what your soul would not want. Isn't that a dream? Yes, of course, material well-being is something that you do not just want to strive for, but you need to do it. But here is the situation when you already have it and will always be throughout your life, opening all kinds of doors in front of you, in what account will you lose the desire to open them? How long can you stay in balance? How quickly will you get bored that everything is beautiful and wonderful? What will you do then?
John Dupont, then, decided that he, as a true citizen of the United States, a true patriot of his country, should revive the free struggle so beloved by him, which he knows at the level of his gardener. As a man who always gets what he wants, he has no trouble setting up a training ground on his expensive estate, to which he dragged Mark, the youngest of the Schultz brothers, both Olympic champions, with words like “you’re a legend, you should be admired by everyone, and I want to lead you to that.” Naturally, Mark, always in the shadow of his brother, not because his brother did it on purpose, but rather because of the unsociableness and backwardness of Mark himself, agreed, leaving both his brother and his old boring life. DuPont quickly played and decided that Dave, Mark’s older brother, should also be under his wing. And everything would have been fine, only during the games with Mark, DuPont deliberately fed the not-too-distant monologues about what it was like to be the shadow of an older brother, thereby pitting Mark against Dave. And now they work in tandem, together, as before, but only can not be the same as before. The colors thicken, the mood falls, and everything inexorably goes to conflict.
Miller was best able to convey the conflict between the two brothers. To show the shortness of the first and the wisdom of the second succeeded in full. It is interesting to watch how such a big and powerful-looking Mark needs hugs and pity from the side, without which he can not recover after a small emotional storm fell on his mighty male shoulders. In contrast to him, his brother Dave, who understands his younger brother, his problems, better than others, and like no other wants him to do well, and always comes to the rescue, despite the fact that such a sheep is being led by a sick billionaire, turning away from his relatives.
In second place, in my opinion, is the son-mother drama, which explains why DuPont grew up the kind of person we see for two hours. Wealthy family, their orders, their upbringing. Dupont’s mother, without hiding, despises her son and his hobbies, trying to attract her, but, either from old age or from her nearness, does not understand that it is normal when people have different tastes and needs, thereby depriving Dupont of such an important for the boy, from whom, apparently, a stately man did not turn out, maternal approval, praise and admiration, which he eventually seeks on the side, forcing others to admire him, elevate and call the Golden Eagle. Well, thank you, not "God" or "Master."
But the Dupont-Mark-Dave conflict and the outcome turned out to be blurred and sharp. The director failed to explain Dupont's action. There were no prerequisites that were more severe than other situations that had happened to DuPont, but which he successfully overcame. Just hit your edge? Or are you obsessed with self-exaltation? Well, that's not an explanation. It is necessary to think out and complete the logical chain, which Miller himself should have done, giving his own vision of the situation and its assessment, but this is not the case. Three shots, bloody snow, over. All right, let's go. Does anyone remember why they were going? Huh? All right.
It is worth noting the acting tandem, which is one of the main advantages of the film. Let's go up the ladder. Tatum is the weak link, of course, but it's only weak because he had to work with Ruffalo and the unreal Carell today. And the emotions that were expected from him and which you will not see in “Macho and the nerd”, there is, but the hero himself is a stupid spinless pitching, which should not be difficult to play Channing. He played Brother Ruffalo much higher in all plans. The beard, of course, is a kind of cheat, because with it Mark immediately becomes purely visually older, wiser and more experienced, from which you want to come and ask for advice, and not only on how to put on the shoulder blades in the stalls, but also on more serious things. And I think Mark will answer them without difficulty! And it's not about the beard. Well, I think it's going to be hard to fight Steve Carell for Reincarnation of the Year. What makeup! What a game! There's nothing manic about DuPont, of course, so he doesn't look like a veteran killer. But mental disorder, emptiness in the eyes, corruption and pain in walking - oh, Carell, you're cool!!
“Fox Hunter” is a good movie, no matter what bad people say about it. A real drama, suggestive, forcing to think about the actions of the heroes, their psychological state. Just the film is long, overly calm and without any drive, on the nerves of the audience and do not try to play, allowing you to calmly observe the characters and assess their actions. As they say, not for everyone, but the movie will definitely find its audience.

Mr. Foxcatcher or the world champion in "fox hunting"
The film directed by Bennett Miller "Fox Hunter" is based on a real story and is presented in the genre of drama and sports. This film tells about the life of athletes, Olympic champions in freestyle wrestling, about two brothers Dave (Mark Ruffalo) and Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum).
As the basis of the plot, screenwriters Max Fry and Dan Futterman took a story from the lives of real people, which the first very successfully adapted for the film. It is known that the project took many years to implement and this is very noticeable if you look at this picture, because it immediately becomes clear what work was done by the entire film crew. Yet the main component here is history itself. These usually penetrate your skin, exert some pressure, despite the lack of dynamics in them, some additional effects and unexpected plot twists. They are not here, there is only a smooth, measured narrative about how everything was and what happened in the end. But the point is to bring you to this conclusion, to the denouement of the whole story and to show what consequences certain actions of people can have. And here you have more questions than the answers that give the end of the story. Because you refuse to believe that life is often more dramatic and more complex than any script.
The place of action of history is the United States of America, 1980s. Dave Schultz is the father of the family, who works as a coach, and is also a world champion in freestyle wrestling and the owner of the Olympic gold medal. Everything in life suits him, he works under contract and is very happy with what he has. His younger brother Mark is also a world and Olympic champion, but always in the shadow of his older brother, he accepts the offer of influential businessman John Dupont to train at his sports base on the Dupont estate. Mark sets a goal to get to the Olympic Games in Seoul and become the best wrestler in his category. Mr. Dupont undertakes to help him in the implementation of his plans, becoming Mark's coach and mentor.
Bennett Miller’s vision for this story is somewhat different from what actually happened, but the numerous nominations and best director prize at the Cannes Film Festival tell us that the adaptation was a success. This director, not yet possessing an impressive track record, nevertheless, is able to create films destined to have more than one nomination for “Oscar” and other prestigious awards (“Capote”, “The Man Who Changed Everything”). This gives him a better estimate for the work done. This picture was no exception, although, she did not manage to become the owner of the cherished statuette. Numerous nominations only confirm what is already clear when viewing the picture - the great professionalism of the actors and other members of the group, as well as a talented approach to creating a film adaptation of human life.
Personally, I would like to undo those who undoubtedly impressed and influenced the general understanding of the lives and deeds of the heroes.
Steve Carell (John Dupont) The actor appears before the audience in such an unusual role for him. Being a master of the comedy genre, Carell tries on an image very atypical. A kind of veiled negative hero, whose actions and motives will not be clear to everyone, or maybe just not immediately. In preparation for the filming, the actor studied a lot of materials about the life of the real John Dupont and tried to adopt as much as possible for his role. Whether he succeeds or not is up to you.
Mark Ruffalo (Dave Schultz) But Mr. Ruffalo could be expected to perform the role that he was presented to play in this film. This actor has many roles and films, ranging from romantic comedies to fantastic blockbusters. This suggests that the actor is very versatile and has many faces, each of which embodies on the screen as if living the life of another person. A talented person, as they say.
Channing Tatum (Mark Schultz) From the guy dancing street dancing, to the romantic hero, then the hero of blockbusters and finally to the role of not the typical handsome man or “macho”, but a real person experiencing drama in his life, a fighter who fights with himself. Channing Tatum can be different, his professionalism is growing and it is visible.
Separately, I would like to highlight the amazing work of the operator, beautiful landscapes and the special mood created by the film. Good or not, it is definitely there, there is an atmosphere, imbued with which, you will remain impressed for some time after watching. Add to this the most important thing – the denouement of the plot, which you can hardly expect.
The film is a must-see for those who understand what cinema means not “for the box office”, but as an attempt to change the viewer’s worldview. For those who are able to look deeper and know what is hidden behind the last "breaking" frame.
Have a good time!
And the trailer was so promising. It's a rainy autumn evening, I go to YouTube, and there's his premiere tape. John DuPont, an American billionaire, shot at his estate Olympic wrestling champion Dave Schultz, whom he had previously sponsored and had high hopes for. The main roles are played by: unrecognizable Carell with an eagle nose and a nasty look, Tatum in the role of an unburdened mind, but physically gifted fighter, Ruffalo in the role of his brother / coach / psychologist. Mysterious murder story, big sport, big money – there’s everything to get the most intense psychological drama. But in fact, you have to watch some kind of temagotin with a monstrous shortage of interesting moments.
Perhaps the story itself is not interesting enough for film adaptation. Some hereditary American nobleman and rich man with obvious signs of degeneration, decides to find a non-trivial hobby. He is passionate about wrestling and decides to sponsor a team whose athletes will become world and / or Olympic champions and provide him with good publicity. At the same time, he lacks the role of philanthropist, he also wants to be the head coach of the team. It immediately becomes clear that this is all in order to prove something to his elderly mother, who despises his hobby. The billionaire is actually just a big boy, there is even some APC buys in the middle of the film, along the way capricious that “the gun at the top is not like the picture.”
And our rich man chooses the fight, despite the fact that he knows exactly as much about it as, for example, the Eskimo about helicopters (seen a couple of times, yes, liked it, but has no idea). And in this place there must be an extreme tension, a clash of desires and opportunities, a confirmation or refutation of the thesis “you can buy everything”. In fact, DuPont is almost unimpeded in becoming a “mentor DuPont” rather than a “money bag DuPont.” Mark is not sure why he is so angry with him, and the whole second half of the film is an alternating shot of their offended and frowning faces. But before the inexplicable conflict, it seemed that nothing would separate the faithful comrades in this glorious work of winning Olympic gold. Their relationship is "a la quarreled expressive couple" and should keep us on the edge of a chair and root for one of them. In fact, we see that this is just a local quarrel between two latent gay men. "Oh, it's all" from Mark and "come back bitch, I'll forgive everything" from DuPont. You won’t hear interesting conversations here. Mark needs 15 more IQ points so he can learn to complicate sentences and not lose the logical chain of speech. DuPont is always hissing, taking such monstrously long pauses, and he's being listened to just because he's a billionaire. So it turns out that out of 2 and a quarter hours of the film, more than half is silence.
From despair, you can even start in consultation on a radical change in the plot context. It would be interesting to watch if the plot was like this: a brilliant scientist, already rich on several patents, takes 2 young scientists to his estate with a huge laboratory, setting the task of making a breakthrough discovery, for example, in genetics, it does not matter. After a series of experiments with varying success, an old wealthy scientist kills one of his proteges. At the trial, he does not explain the reasons, the colleague of the deceased can not say anything, because the relationship in the laboratory was purely working and positive. And the director is trying to reconstruct the events from the materials that he has. That is, it would be an investigative film about a crime committed by an extraordinary person for unknown reasons on the eve of a major discovery in one of the fields of science. And not a dull tale about how a wayward billionaire fooled a frankly stupid young fighter.
Oh, how protracted and boring, this Foxcatcher. Since the time of the movie “Zodiac” has not shouted into the screen “Come on, something will happen!”

Fox Hunter is an American drama film directed by Bennett Miller. The plot tells the story of the relationship between a multimillionaire and the owner of a private team on freestyle wrestling “Fox Hunters” John Dupont (Steve Carell) and his ward, ambitious fighter Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum).
After reading a lot of information about the movie before watching it, it was hard to decide whether or not to watch it. After all, in America, this film was received by critics and audiences very warmly, and the picture caused a split in the society of film fans. And negative reviews are pedaled by the emptiness of the plot, protractedness, etc. And after watching, I understood a really purely aesthetic film, and our viewer is bored, and he requires entertainment. I agree with the picture very slowly, the whole film leads us to a very unexpected denouement. But although there is no dynamics in the plot, I was not bored and the desire to turn off did not arise, and for me this says a lot. I don’t know what the formula for the success of this film is, since I was chained to the screen, and 2 hours flew by not noticeable, although sometimes movies in the timekeeping of 80 minutes test your patience and want to turn off in the initial stages. Perhaps the formula of success lies in the acting, since the personality of one of the brothers Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) is of great interest, and the interest is caused by his complex character, this detachment from reality, tacitness, maybe even isolation. I want to mention Channing Tatum, he was just great in this picture. Channing revealed himself and showed himself to be quite worthy and capable of such dramatic roles, and dispelled all doubts about the opinion of people about his ability to play only a dull character, as in the movie “Macho and the Nerd”. Steve Carell was also great, although he is familiar and usually looks in comedic roles, here he played the role of an eccentric millionaire perfectly. Yes, and it is possible to note the work of makeup artists, since Steve Karel was changed almost beyond recognition.
Outcome: It is definitely worth watching, at least because of the acting of the talented three: Chennig Tatum, Steve Carell, and Mark Rufallo, and the main argument for viewing is the denouement of this dramatic story. And for this film you need a special mood, that is, watch boldly when you are ready and tuned to the tragic and slow development of the plot, then I am sure you will get many reasons and moments for reflection.

“Fox Hunter” is not a mass drama, based on the real life story of the famous wrestler Mark Schultz and, as a representative of the biographical genre, the film has its mission to “tell” and its own special way to influence. We cannot say that the viewing takes place imperceptibly, in one breath - it is monotonous, gloomy, interesting and unusual in its own way. If you want to learn something or just enlighten yourself, be patient and look to the end.
All three heroes Dave, Mark and John Dupont reveal their own personal tragedy. Dave Schultz is a wonderful fighter, a loving husband and father, who survived the ambitions of his youth, tries to protect his brother from possible mistakes and helps him believe in himself. Mark himself, quite withdrawn, sullen and lonely at heart, he is a rising star of sports. On his way there is a man who overwhelms him with his nobility, dignity and love of wrestling despite his huge fortune. For those unfamiliar with the true story and watching the film from scratch, DuPont's character will figure as something questionable but benevolent. However, the rich man’s past is so dark and contradictory that gradually his “shifts” that came from the unrealized dreams of childhood will increasingly remind of themselves, and the viewer will see him from the side of a psychopath who believes in his unshakable wisdom and the power of the “eagle”. This violation was buried in his consciousness a long time ago and slowly but surely eroded to the final point.
The picture is very dark and depressing. The whole film does not leave the feeling of anxiety and distrust to what he saw and a couple of times I wanted to pause to rest.
All three actors, Mark Ruffalo, Steve Carrell, Channing Tatum, I applaud standing up. Showing emotions is difficult, and showing emotions that are hidden far beneath the skin is even more difficult. Channing Tatum really made great progress in his acting career and added a new role to the muscular handsome.
Which alerted . The real Mark Schultz was worried about the ambiguity of the friendship between him and DuPont. And his warnings were not in vain, in the film there are indeed scenes from which the will is not willful, but conjures. If the authors thus decided to add special significance to their relationship, it is at least disrespect for history and an attempt as a personal gain invented and compromising material to attract the attention of the viewer. For this, separately minus the point.
Definitely everyone should not be recommended to watch “Fox Hunter”. It is distinguished by its indirectness and avoidance of specificity - it is partly a sport (there are very few scenes from the ring), about the strength of the spirit, about kindred love and dislike, and its psychological consequences. A film that is looking for its viewer, able to understand and appreciate the invested work and a genuine idea.

Steve Carell changed, I used to see him as a buffoon, I see that he did a serious job and played the role very well, but Mark Ruffalo also played great. The film is a bit long, but still interesting.
Mark Schultz’s problem is his unrealization in sports, he is talented, capable, but does not know how to manage his ambitions to distinguish grains from chaff and is therefore easily manipulated by John Dupont. He (Mark Schultz) compromised his conscience by allowing DuPont to disparage himself and then he would be depressed and still walk away, possibly saving his life.
Dave Schultz is wiser than Mark, in fact, his spiritual mentor, perfectly understands who John Dupont is and knows the value of everything that happens and, unlike Mark, does not bend under Dupont.
John Dupont-Mephistophile, took Mark's soul and Dave's life, he used to buy everything, including people, Mark chose conformity he didn't care about himself while there was money, Mark's fault was that he lost himself. Dave neither to buy nor to bend failed this infuriated ' Golden Eagle' and he decided to take his life.
Despite the fact that this biographical picture from it you can draw a lot of philosophical, important for yourself thoughts.
Ask yourself: do you indulge someone, for example, at work to the leader or parents, loved ones, and if so, you should think about the fact that our conscience (soul) it is priceless, it can not be bought, exchange for material goods is not a subject for compromise and no conformism is so expensive. And also pay attention to how others treat us, because not always money is a subject of compromise, sometimes it is love (alcohol, drugs any addiction) and dissolving we sometimes lose ourselves, which is categorically not worth it.

Fulfilling your dreams at all costs. Even at the cost of human freedom.
Before the film had not got acquainted with the real story of DuPont, so there was no idea what he was about. For those who are waiting for action or a film about super-wrestlers, this movie will seem boring.
Mark. I don’t really like Tatum’s acting talent. In other words, I have no sympathy for this actor. I appreciate the transmission of visual emotions. And Channing has zero. Strangely, it was in this movie that I liked him. A stone-shaped formidable mute outwardly, but kind and even naive like a child inside.
Dave. An honest working family man and a real man who sacrificed his own interests for the freedom of his brother. Ruffalo did a great job in his role.
John. A rich, spoiled child trying to prove to his mother the importance of his interests and his own greatness. He is not stupid and has good oratorical skills, and money of course. In his opinion, you can buy everything. Even a human. Dreaming of declaring himself and being known as the greatest coach, he decided to buy two brothers-fighters and take the achievement of their successes for himself. But since the purchase was not at all like the usual, for example, the purchase of pets, and the “pets” did not lend themselves to training, he began to be capricious.
Steve is one of my favorite actors and the Oscar nomination is already a great achievement given his role as a comedian.
Atmospheric, sustained in autumn tones film. Surely you will have to taste those who like to think about the topic of human relations.

Life is not a movie, it is much more difficult to choose the ending.
If you don’t know what binds the Schultz brothers and multimillionaire John Dupont, it’s definitely worth a look and find out. Without reading the abstract, without typing into the search engine, the acclaimed, at one time, names - just sit down and enjoy the biographical drama. To say unequivocally good or bad movie does not work out, but it is clearly one of the best biographical pictures of recent years.
In this genre, Bennett Miller is not a beginner - already the second sports biography - the first "The Man Who Changed Everything" - he did not cause special feelings, but it is beautiful. So is this tape. There is no global meaning - shows the underside of the "American Dream" - there are no moral teachings, and this is a plus, but somehow the picture takes. Two or more hours doesn’t seem that long.
In fact, this effect is created, first, Steve Carell - unrecognizable, who has played his best role at the moment - it is 100%. Second, Channing Tatum is no longer the ghetto kid from Step Up. Just this tape for him a huge step forward - played delightfully. Third, Mark Ruffalo - shaved off his curls, let go of his beard and put on glasses, that is, not as always - already good. In short, they understood in the spirit of Stanislavsky.
The picture is made in Hollywood, covered with a pseudo-art house, in which Cannes is in love. You got what you wanted. Palm branch 2014.
Many will not notice, but paradox: sports drama is not about sports. But it depends on which side you stand. Let’s think of Bennett as illustrating the brothers’ mistake — the one with the most power plays the game — which is worth learning from and making sure that it’s not always easy to get rid of people like John Dupont.
