Dance movies are relevant regardless of when they are made. This movie is 10 years old and still interesting to watch. Because it's about what's relevant at all times.
This is a story about the fact that in conditions of acute shortage of time, a team of the best dancers of the country is going to win the World Cup. With the help of a coach, their own talents, perseverance and incredible motivation, dancers learn teamwork in record time! They go a long way thinking this is their only chance. Is that true? The viewer will find out only in the final!
A lot of dancing, music, the atmosphere of breaking, faith in yourself, your team and love for what you do - all this creates a very positive attitude from watching this film!
There is no need to wait for incredible acting or deep meanings. This movie is not about that.
However, we can definitely say that everything in the film is logical, there are no plot failures or incomprehensible characters.
Of the minuses - a little too much with American pathos, but it is actually there too logical.
It lacks a dramatic component. All the personal stories of the characters shown in the film are not taken for the soul. Because the feeling that they are in the film only because according to the law of the genre “it should be here.”
He has a lot of will to win and sports anger. Very dynamic and incendiary film!
A classic American motivational film with all the world-famous stamps.
Coach with Tragedy and Alcoholism, who needs to gather to assemble the team.
A bunch of bright individualists who can only succeed if they forget the word “I.”
A businessman who wants to implement in children (crossed out) in a ward team what he can no longer himself.
And then everything like this: trouble at the most crucial moment, the disclosure of secret secrets on the eve of the announcement of the final lineup, and so on and so forth.
An interesting character could become a choreographer, but she did not – she was given exactly two phrases in which she did not even substantiate her coolness, and then she was only an extra for the team and / or coach.
The most pleasant character was the assistant coach - reasonable, calm and in general nothing. I hope he has a great future out there in an imaginary world.
But! All the above-mentioned secondary more than pays for one thing, but the most important thing in the film - dancing. It's so indescribably cool that during the final battle I forgot to breathe. Dancing is a fire. For them, this movie is worth watching.
From a young age, looking at street dancers, I thought. They are people, whether they have bones, whether they have gravity and the laws of attraction. How do they even do all these pirouettes?
The film begins very abruptly. The businessman - a former breakdancer - wants to restore glory to American street dancing. And for this he invites his friend, who after some events in his life, starts drinking, captain for the team of breakdancers. He's got to bring the chm breaking cup back to America. But suddenly, this coach breaks up the team and assembles his own - from the best hip-hoppers. And they start to train them so that they become one team.
Naturally, after some setbacks, he succeeds. The movie has a lot of pompous speeches. But that didn't bother me. I was looking at the final dances. Oh, they were good. The final battle was just fire. This drive was felt even through the computer screens.
Honestly, I wouldn't know who to give the win to. Because both teams were equal. I was surprised by the place the United States got. But I don't think it was an accident.
The film is not a masterpiece. But for the final dances, it's worth watching.
The film shows a dream team from America and their coach with their stories.
The plot is weak and more about the athletes themselves and those who love everything motivational.
Yes, the coach was shown as a genius who can lift any team to its feet and grow them into champions, only here he did not take into account one aspect, each of them is individual and each has its own shortcomings. And his system made them a team, yes. Only that's why the Koreans won because they took into account their individuality and technology.
There is a lot of motivation in this film, but sometimes it goes overboard, only the statement “We act like champions and we will be champions!” is repeated many times, sometimes it is annoying, the feeling that the script did not soar at all and even if steamed, they did nothing.
More reminiscent of Cinderella in modern - dance interpretation. Because in life, nobody cares about you except your family and friends. Although his friend was one of his closest friends, this shows some sincerity in the film. You can't make a big movie.
There's no I have us here. This is what I liked about the movie.
If you have a huge HPV, you will be kicked out of such a team. Because it's your teamwork that matters more than you are the one. Yes, you can do something alone only without a team it will be difficult for you and in this film the main idea is made.
About the dance itself.
The dances for the whole film are not enough. Only here the choreography has the feeling that licked with Jabbawokkez just such costumes as they collected even from the performance of ABCD with a descending mask. This applies to the Dream Team. As for training, how can you train so much and not come up with a normal idea? When they fought the Koreans, did you see how many ideas the Koreans had? And the Americans in the dance showed only technique and history. That's all, that's all.
And about the other teams, the feeling remained as if they were not, they were voiced – Germany, France and even those favorites, the Koreans did not fully show them.
Acting.
Do not expect in this film a serious return of acting there is no such thing in sight. These are not movies like Ray, Island of the Damned, Eyes Wide Shut, etc. Here people come to see this film not for acting, but just relax after a hard day at work. In this film, do not think, only for the beauty of the dance is worth watching.
About training.
They basically just honed the same thing, the same thing, all the time. It is only when the dance has already been staged that we are shown their battle test and shown again what they did only in more detail. Only after that show the battle itself and what they are doing there. It's a marmot day. Sometimes it's infuriating because we're shown what they've done several times before, and we get stuffed into it over and over again. We seem to watch the same thing only in different ways sometimes something original comes out only sometimes and then sometimes from different teams.
About battles and performances.
It feels like whoever made this movie doesn't know how to make a dance. The camera runs there ships, one movement Headspin and one movement camera changed 5 times exactly.
Comments on Battle of the Year.
The performances are incomprehensible, why only the Americans showed the full performance at Battle of the Year? The rest were shown in excerpts and how should the viewer understand all this?
At the main battle of the year and so show everything? Who upgraded this film? It seems that they wanted to confuse the viewer with the spectacular dance. The camera runs either on the dance floor, then on the reaction of the viewer of the dance floor, then on the coach with his team, then on the stage from different angles, then on several journalists at once, then at leading events, and the battle itself was not clear because everything was shown with excerpts and it was not clear what and how.
The brain simply does not have time to process it all and it suffers from it and the meaning disappears.
Finally, there is a double feeling after this film.
It is worth watching only for the sake of relaxation and entertainment, there is nothing more to add and yes these fragments with dances - repeat, all the time.
I'll bet you 4 out of 10 and let me digest it after making this movie.
I've seen all the modern dance movies and captured most of the non-modern. When I started to watch it, I thought, '. The same main meaning, but the fintiflus are different...' And that made me happy at first. I was hoping that at least this movie would have a not-so-smooth plot.
The final battle really sucked. The Dream Team has performed much better before, as has the Korean team. I wanted to go and do my own business in the middle of the battle of the two & #39; best & #39; teams in the world.
I was disappointed. The plot, of course, and not so beaten – found the same small details that are different from what always show. But there wasn't something that I value so much in dance movies -- amazing dances that are breathtaking, that make you want to go and dance. I lacked the atmosphere of real dance groups.
What can you say about a film that is a stamp from beginning to end? There's a lot of repetition. I, as a lover of films about dance, decided to see this film in part because the main role in it was played by Josh Holloway, who I really liked after the series Lost. I was disappointed, too.
But let's be clear.
Plot.
The plot of the film is incredibly limping. The feeling that the idea of “Let’s make a movie about breakdancing?” included only breakdancing. Yes, this film has a few pluses - they were well able to shoot the breakdancing itself. However, the film about dancing is not just about dancing. There should be a beautiful wrapper and an attractive plot. What are we seeing here? A hero who drinks for 2 years suddenly decides from one visit to an old friend that he wants to change his life. For me, a person who suffers from grief for loved ones could not so quickly agree to this position. I think he might be interested and want to break away from the bottle with something much more than one incredibly pathetic dialogue from the owner of a dashing company, an old friend. Further, no less strange and sudden appearance of the girl in the role of choreographer, which in fact there is a great variety did not bring. According to the plot of this film, a man could well become a choreographer. There was no romance, there were no additional relationships that could make the film sharper. They just showed a beautiful girl, that’s all. The moment when one team member suddenly jumps off the competition, the filmmakers suddenly slammed themselves on the forehead with the realization of "Oh shit!" We have forgotten one thing: drama! And let him just want out of the blue (forgetting about the main motto of the film “We are the team”) to show a new movement and something will happen to him! So brought in some drama... Also incredibly annoying is this pathetic promotion of tolerance, anti-discrimination and other slogans throughout the film - here you have Jews, gays, and relations between different races (this is especially well shown in the final dance). How long can you say that the assistant coach is Jewish?
Not to mention that everything in the film repeats all the previous pictures about dancing in almost every moment. Changed the scenery, the essence remained.
Acting play.
Josh Holloway has been incredibly disappointing to me in this role. After his incredible character Sawyer in Lost, here I saw only a sloppy drunkard with miserable painful eyes. This is not a role for this actor. Or at least I didn’t like him in that way. The role of a coach of this plan would be suitable just such an atker as Matthew Fox (the eternally suffering Jack in Lost) or someone like Sam Worthington. And Josh wants to be seen as a mocking seducer who thinks he's the coolest guy in the world with his own secrets. Maybe it’s just my subjective opinion, but that’s not what I expected from him.
The rest of the actors were invited to the film solely for the sake of dancing, so I did not expect any special acting talents from them. I didn't believe them in tears, fights and fights either. We came, danced and left.
The head of the company is an old friend (the names, alas, could not be remembered) during the film is filled with such pathos that he wanted to beat. Always.
The girl choreographer, did she have a name in the film? cute, but useless.
No member of the team elicits sympathy or sympathy. A lot of movies are made about groups of dancers trying to achieve something. Remember at least a similar type of film “Keep the rhythm”, where the coach teaches a variety of guys to become a single whole. I remember almost every one of them because they had their own story. And in the movie “Kings of the dance floor” the story is only the guy “Bambin”, as I understand – and it is clearly in the film in order to show the wounds of the coach.
Music and design.
Yeah, that's all right. Dancing is level. Dance shooting, too. I like the moments in France, shot as if on an amateur camera. Perhaps for this reason, this review will be gray, not red. I wanted to see the dance, I looked at the dance.
All the creators of modern films about dancing want to remind that yes, dancing is life and dancing is everything, but the film about dancing is not only the movement in unison and the final number of the main characters. This is also a high-quality and thoughtful plot that will make you not laugh in the “dramatic” moments that you already expect, but make you sympathize with the characters. And this should be done by actors, not crying music in the background.
In total, we got the film, which consists of pathos, pathos and once again pathos, the motto “USA is cooler than everyone else, even though everyone forgot about it”, advertising razor “Brown”, which was both in the middle of the film and at the end with the words SHAVE YOUR STYLE on a huge scoreboard during the fight. Oh yeah, and a lot of breakdancing that saved the movie. Although, apparently, the film was made for him, so that the dance with his role in the film coped very well.
My score is 5.
This is our destiny... and it gives us a chance for greatness.
Playing actors at the middle level. Josh Holloway has always pleased me with his performance and in this film did not disappoint.
The film is pleasant for perception, nothing new of course in the genre of such films is not invented, you can watch more than once.
The film tells about a team of dancers, before whom the goal is to win the International Break Dancing Competition.
The members of the team gather the most diverse. Young and promising dancers need to become one team, in this they will be helped by a harsh coach (Josh Holloway), who will try to raise team spirit through training, as well as harsh upbringing. The guys manage to become a team, of course, not without overcoming problems and prejudices.
From now on, the motto of “Dream Teams” is “Acting like champions and will be champions!”

The film tells us about a man who had to turn selfish herd breakers into a real bi-boy team in 3 months.
Jason Blake - once a famous dancer, as well as a former basketball coach loses his family, as a result of which his life changed dramatically, he began to drink, abandoned everything and life no longer made sense for him. But everything changes when his old friend comes to him and offers him to become a b-boy coach in order to win the world championship and return the cup to his homeland, where break dancing was created.
The essence of the film is not primarily about dancing, but about creating a real team. Here you will be shown how people who were ready to tear each other’s throats will reach mutual understanding, where everyone must cross the line of pride and principles of their own and work together in order to win the championship.
To be honest, this film impressed me, but not as much as it was in my expectations, as the plot may be interesting and the meaning of the film is not bad, but the author did not realize it for real. Namely: the film has no dynamics, no intrigue, no suitable soundtracks, no full-fledged battles, since they were greatly reduced, everything that was really cool was the show performance of the team, as well as Triking ligaments from Anis (Anis Cheurfa is strange that it is not listed in the roles of the search), and in fact battles are what was supposed to create the dynamics that the audience was waiting for. In general, the author did not create those empathies that the viewer had to feel with the coach and b-boys.
To put it bluntly, everyone who expects a lot of battles, dances, and in general another “step forward”, the film will not impress you, but everyone who likes to appreciate the plot itself and the meaning of it, a pleasant viewing. But only those who are somehow connected with this film (team, directions, life situations, etc.) will fully understand the film.

And that 1 point added, just because I'm also part of the connection with this film!
Jason Blake, once a famous dancer and basketball coach, throws everything after the tragedy that happened to his family. But fate gives him a second chance, he becomes the coach of the American team in breakdancing. He has his own rules and understanding of dance, the world will conquer them if Blake and the team can come to an understanding.
Benson Lee made a boring, pathetic and underworked movie. The director is more interested in the process than the finished product and everything he has to offer the public, she saw.
The script is arrogant and tractive, the only thing that saves the text is the curiosity of the authors. They endowed the plot with classic problems for Hollywood films, giving the characters thereby development. But then things are worse, moves are predictable, dialogues are boring, dances are monotonous.
Josh Holloway tries to give the picture at least some colors, but he does not succeed.
The soundtrack is difficult to call such, because small musical segments are needed for numbers, the audience simply does not have time to react to them.
“Kings of the dance floor” is another picture about dancing, but the problem does not end there, because the authors chose the most ordinary and boring type – breakdancing, which can only interest fans.
The second Benson Lee film, dedicated to the culture of breakdancing. In The Kings of the Dance Floor, the director visually shows the viewer not only performances, but also the everyday life of those who call themselves break-boy, doing it in a very relaxed manner.
Formation of the breakdancing team from qualifying castings to the final competition. There will be difficult training and internal team rivalry and injury that forced him to leave the team of his dreams. There will be a dramatic line associated with the difficult family situation of one of the members of the dance group; and a coach with a huge tragedy in his personal life.
The set of film directors is quite simple, no delights - the heroes of the film find themselves in breakdancing. When on the screen the dancers do simply incredible things from the point of view of physical laws, it becomes clear that the dramatic line fades into the background and in this case we can say that Benson Lee did a very good job on the script, because often films of this kind are completely bland and stupid. And “Kings of the dance floor” still half the corps overtake similar paintings built around musical and dance subcultures.
Do the Kings of the Dance Floor have a deep background? It's a typical Sunday movie, and it's ridiculous to have a lot of quality criteria. Although entertaining the viewer and delighting lovers of breakdancing, the director still does not just show a number of dance numbers, interconnected by fairly simple dialogues - it is important not just to dance, but to be a team, to feel part of the whole. For a teenage film, this value content is more than enough.
Quite a good picture of “Kings of the dance floor” is complemented by excellent shooting of dances. Together with the dancers, the skill of the operator is fully manifested. Also, the film has a very remarkable and positive main musical theme - the song "Mr. Blue Sky" by the Electric Light Orchestra, although the rest of the musical series is made in a completely different style, which suited those who share the hobbies of the main characters of the film.
Many people will probably choose to watch The Dance Floor Kings because of Josh Holloway and Chris Brown. For Josh, this is one of the most notable roles on the big screen after the series Lost, which is strange, because he is a great actor who can play serious roles, but he is mainly used as a secondary actor. Chris Brown not only dances and sings well, but also does a good job in the cinematic genre, he was taken into the film not because he is a dancer who can play, but because he is an actor who can dance. The third notable character of the cast is Josh Peck.
“Kings of the dance floor” is not a movie for everyone, but not in the usual sense of these words. This is not a festival author's film, but a picture for teenagers, lovers of the culture of b-boys, the rest of it may not taste. Yes, in general, "Kings of the dance floor" as a subculture film, and not designed for this. Sometimes dancing is all you need, and you don’t have to be the first to feel like a winner.
