A storm in a glass of water The film “Four more years” could be called a passing melodrama with a predictable ending, if not for one thing: both the main characters are men. Therefore, it is a passing melodrama about homosexual relationships with a predictable ending. Continuing to keep the brand of one of the most tolerant nations in the world, the Swedes decided not to exchange for trifles and introduced the topic of homosexuality into big politics. The conflict described in the synopsis, similar to the tragedy of Montague and Capulet, actually looks Scandinavian calm, and sometimes even boring, resembling a storm in a glass of water. It seems that no one except the main character, the leader of the liberal party David Holst, sees a great tragedy in his fascination with the Social Democrats Secretary handsome Martin. Even the wife, who has long guessed about the secret predilections of her husband, is ready with blessing to let him go on all four sides in order to live a happy life with her lover. And only David persistently invents fictional obstacles to his own happiness, proving that even if both lovers are from Mars, this does not guarantee full mutual understanding and a cloudless relationship.
The plot, however, such fabrications do not benefit at all: dialogues sometimes seem protracted, and each new obstacle artificially slows the approach of the obvious denouement. The film cannot boast of either the beauty of landscapes or bright dialogues. And the disputes between representatives of different parties rather resemble the disputes of the inhabitants of the Lilliputian country about which end to break an egg.
As a result, it turns out not the most memorable movie, which can be recommended for viewing sympathetic to gay problems or those who want to spend an evening watching another melodrama of the middle hand.
