Freedom air? About the film:
The Air of Freedom is a film based on real events from the lives of two scientists - researchers Alexander von Humboldt and Eme Bonplan. About the time they spent together exploring South America in 1799-1804.
The Enlightenment. Eme and Alexander are free-thinking scientists, ready to explore the land and rejoice in the acquisition of new knowledge. They believe in the Declaration of Human Rights and accept Thomas Paine’s view of “science as true theology.”
Arriving in America, they explore this land and record their discoveries in botany, zoology, geology, geography and cosmology for a European audience.
Freed from the limitations of 'civilization', they discover an abundance of natural phenomena, but also the essence of this society, the process of colonization, they observe the cruelty and suffering in the colony. Alexander and Eme are further disappointed after witnessing the methods of "enlightenment" of the Indians in the lands captured by the King of Spain. The Catholic Church is trying to “civilize” the Indians by spreading Christianity. The Spanish army is there to guard the borders and search for mineral deposits to increase the Spanish treasury.
Being so faithful to the spirit of their revolutionary era, scientists do not arouse sympathy among everyone.
The film touches on very serious problems of the time, but despite this, the film is saturated with incredible ease, romance and humor.
