Good Dr. Cyclops. It's a delightful movie. Unlike King Kong by the same director, Dr. Cyclops (not Cyclops; it’s like writing Tyrannosaurus instead of Tyrannosaurus) isn’t out of date. Of course, it required special effects not so large-scale, but in terms of the script, staging, acting is much more mature and interesting work. Of course, not without some convention, but this is part of the charm of such a movie.
Most of the old fantastic paintings, with all their charm, suffer from a certain stamping of plot moves - there is practically no such thing here. Again, in most adventure films in the microcosm, the emphasis is on the misadventures of the characters, and the reason for their decrease is glimpsed. Here the emphasis is on the personality of the mad experimenter. Dr. Torkel, played by Albert Dekker, is wonderful. A brutal killer with a round face and kind blind eyes is a beautiful image! Despite the fact that he is a complete psychopath in the plot, he does not look like a stereotypical mad doctor from typical films of the time: there is no doubt for a moment that he is a real scientist, eccentric and like a boy addicted.
The movie looks in one breath. It feels like it’s an adaptation of a novel by H.G. Wells. Of course it's not, but Wells is literally breathing. True fans of fiction to pass by is simply unacceptable.
