I write a review after 3 episodes. Action scene and chatter, and chatter, absolutely useless, not promoting the plot. They want to seize a ship, do not prepare for it, talk, talk, talk. Okay. Nothing else is going on in this series, a la, shit-flicks, I won't be surprised if the faggot scenes and stuff start soon. In general, the studios removed this creation in the blacklist!!!
The series tells the story of pirate life and Captain Flint. To begin with, the series is visually gorgeous. Attention to costumes, locations, every little thing in the cabin. Everything is detailed and beautiful.
Little fact. Most of them scared away the story because of the alleged LGBT agenda, but believe me, it is so casual, and serves only to reveal the characters.
The second big plus is the characters. The interweaving of their destinies, undercover games, arches. It’s interesting how each character changes in this story. Development and change are sometimes enormous. The plot of the stars from the sky is not enough, some turns are easily predictable, but the title stories sometimes make a fictitious ears and give an unexpected turn.
I advise you to watch in the original, as the voiceover, including the main characters, has changed 4 times, if not more.
This is a story that must be known.
The series was supposed to be a prequel to Treasure Island. But from the heroes of the novel we see Flint (who, according to the plot of the novel, is already dead), Billy Bones (in the novel, a navigator, an alcoholic, an obvious thug with a favorite saying “The dead do not bite...”), John Silver (in the novel, a quartermaster, a man with incredible charisma and leadership qualities). Where's Ben Gunn, Israel Hands, Blind Pugh? Although the book clearly states that they sailed on the Walrus.
But the loss of these characters is not the worst. If the first season of the series was very good, then the sequel was simply terrible. A couple of battles and a few fights for 10 episodes is too little for an adventure narrative. In the film about pirates shots on nature with views of the sea occupy barely 5 percent of screen time. There are endless dialogues waiting for us. And actors, with rare exceptions, are not happy with their play.
From the second season began a nightmare. More than half of the screen time in the film about pirates is occupied by women. And all of them are strong, feminist! In the early eighteenth century. Surrounded by pirates. And, worst of all, they turn men as they please! Flint, Wayne and other thugs do not just listen to them, but seem to be their toys in the big game.
Not to mention that Flint turned out to be gay and a patriot of England. How many times did his team try to remove him? And this is the same Flint from the novel “Treasure Island”!
It feels like the writers were drawn from LGBT people and feminist organizations. The constant twists and turns in the plot are reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean’s famous cry of “Negotiations!” as well as the frequent mention of the Codex. Instead of resolving issues in a male way, we see some lords from parliament always trying to agree.
In general, if the first season was at least somehow watchable and gave hope for a second season, then everything went to hell. You can only recommend this series to those who have never even heard of Stevenson’s book.
A strong series, a great acting team selected, played at the highest level! Flint is the character of the hromada, the titanic. Wayne is handsome, sorry... The soundtrack is beyond praise! I was a pirate in a previous life. Not without tollerastia, of course, but it didn't bother me.
Quaker Moving Pictures is an irony or an admission? The film seduced viewers with the charms of a pirate republic, revealing the spirit of the Religious Society of Friends (or Quakers). This is more like a hidden introduction of views into the public by means of cinema than an honest announcement of a sermon.
The series is about what could have been before Treasure Island in Nassau on New Providence Island. It is now the capital of the Bahamas. Stevenson’s novel, first published in 1883, was a fiction, although the writer used legends and myths of pirate seas, materials of investigation and trials, stories and portraits of real bandits and robbers.
Since the long film exaggerates the theme of immersion in sins, the religious accents of Protestants were clearly manifested.
1. Godliness is excessive. This is done directly and indirectly - by attaching special importance to personal piety (pietism), and also by an alternative method - influenced by a constant reminder of the "dark side of souls" (antipietism).
Reminiscent of a cameo, high relief or bas-relief: dented or convex - it does not matter if you understand what kind of image you have in front of you.
The thirst for gold, the passion to consider people as commodities or talking tools, and the hypocrisy disguised from imitations of humanism, or the entanglement of heroes in conscientious delusions and spiritual charm, suddenly present the viewer with a religious experience as if believing pirates, their victims and ordinary inhabitants. Are you thinking?
2. Occasionally directly, but more often with hints, the public is reminded of “union with God” and the supposedly passive property of souls, as if like an antenna receiving “bells.” The Creator. From such a cunning religious agitprop at times from watching the series want to abandon.
However, stubbornness can win, then we can appreciate the whole big story. And the point is that the fictional Flint was actually once an honest officer. And he was, albeit with some confusing orientation, but loving. And the place where he found himself with a hearty friend could and should be updated.
The port city of Nassau after the weakening of the power of the mother country actually fell from the empire. Pirate morals created a colonial mess instead of the colonial order, and Flint’s mind and will was enough to become a prominent authority in this mess.
The sourdough, as it should be in pirate films, is golden: a transport and trading ship (the urca “Holy Trinity” or Santisima Trinidad), nicknamed after the owner of the ship Urca de Lima, existed, suffered from the same troubles as in the film, now became an exhibit of an underwater amusement park. The ship worked on the sea route from gold-bearing Latin America to the treasury of Spain.
Pros: you are poisoned by serial movie bikes about pirate times, mixing literary heroes with historical figures, myths and legends with stories, without embarrassment and without hiding what was invented. Filmed fervently, albeit in a different vein than fluffy tales about Captain Jack Sparrow.
Cons: The viewer is fooled by Quaker dialogues about morality, sin and redemption. First, on serious topics, a quality entertainer can only be removed by geniuses, and the authors of the series are smart, but only artisans.
The second big drawback is the mandatory set for the West of LGBT, prostitution in politics (sorry, this is about situational ethics), business and personal life.
They say you can't break through without ruining your ideals? Good things don’t make much money... Who helps people, he wastes time - good deeds can not be famous!
We’ve heard this from an old man somewhere. Jokes jokes, and the adventures of the dark hypostasis of the former naval officer in the form of a long copy of the adventures of Cheburashka is really very similar.
6 out of 10
Quite an interesting embodiment of pirate legends in the form of a series. Good caste, beautifully painted ships. Some claims were made to individual episodes during the series. To add variety to your serial experience is great.
Pirate epic. History is long, albeit small, but an era. The era of daredevils, risky people, adventurers. It has its charm. The spirit of freedom reigned everywhere. Even freedom from life itself. As a pirate, you are always in the sea, the ocean, and the land is somewhere where life is. But you're distant from her. Life will come after or not with you. This is a real romance for pirates.
So, the series tells us about the fate of several pirates, each has its own, but all memorable. The main character is Captain Flint. It is in him that we see flashbacks, a complete immersion in the causes of his actions and the search for his happiness, which is impossible, so he is in search of eternal struggle. Fighting civilization is a lost battle, but it is ready to start it and involve everyone. Why are others willing to sacrifice everything for their purpose? The answer is simple, the goal is too high. To make a coup, to show those who thought they were higher, more civilized than you, that they were no better, and even worse. To write his name in world history, of course, not one adventurer will refuse.
The series is about the way, but there is a minus. The path itself and its beginning cannot be compared with its completion - leap-and-fast. There's too much at stake to stop everything like that. That is my doubt about this series. More exciting for me was the first and second season. They were about pirates, adventure and treasure hunting and a better life. But the tone has changed and now there are higher targets that are out of proportion to a couple dozen pirates. They got lost and lost.
Characters worked out, there were dark spots in many biographies, but this gives charm, the most important is known and understandable reasons that prompted people to murder, cruelty, although this can not be justified.
This is the series + 18, there is nudity, blood, violence. Also great fighting on land and water. Historical personalities blend with characters from Treasure Island. Almost all famous personalities are present here and in one form or another influence what is happening. But this is all fiction, if you want to learn about the real history of certain real characters, it is better to turn to other sources. Nor would I insist that this is a prequel to Stevenson's story. It is better to say for reasons inspired. And this is great, because in 4 seasons you get attached to even the most inveterate robbers. Whatever gender they are, interestingly, power here doesn't belong to one gender, it's divided. Power cannot be concentrated in one hand. Even if you do not like pirates, such adventures are worth watching, at least for the first two seasons, and then the curiosity will be too much to stop.
Many write about the lack of battles and adventure, stupidity of dialogue, illogical plot and many other shortcomings of this series, in particular, the themes of LGBT and feminism. I am puzzled, because, as it seemed to me, the series is not about this at all.
I very rarely write reviews, because very rarely the products of cinematography make me feel so mixed - as if I was hit in the head with a hammer. In such cases, it is necessary to speak out.
Flint and Silver are the embodiment of the law of unity and the struggle of opposites in such an acute period of world history as the colonization of America. The most hurtful of all four seasons is the love for the main character Flint, which was nurtured by the creators of the series in the audience and the allegedly ambiguous ending, although the tragedy is obvious, despite all the intertwined history of the main characters. The creators of the series deliberately confronted in the minds of the viewer opposite entities: comfort and pain, love and hatred, struggle and peace. And, unfortunately, human vulnerability has triumphed, which does not move humanity forward, but stagnates it. Once again in American cinema won ' personality' and her 'ego' and I don't know why, but it is certainly upsetting, probably because it reminds us of the insignificance and hopelessness of our situation, that the most important thing for a person is his survival and preservation of what is dear to him, and that instead of the common good, a person will choose his own. And maybe it should be, but in my mind you should always hit, not run, especially if you are a pirate, although maybe vice versa.
The coolest character in this fight is of course Mr. Scott: he managed to balance between these two entities, albeit for a short time, but he was able to achieve so much, and it is a pity that his character was given so little attention. But then, of course, it would not be so interesting to watch.
A very deep series, looks in one breath, among all this huge information flow really deserves attention, if only because it raises important questions of life guidelines. Thanks for listening.
The series does not start badly. An interesting plot plot and at once a bunch of characters, which are curious to watch at the beginning. It feels like you’re watching a series about pirates. Lies, deception, selfishness, debauchery, everything feels plausible. That's what you expect. I just want to talk about logic. I won't deny that there are shackles. And yes, sometimes the characters are too emotional, but it is quite realistic. Still, it must be borne in mind that the actions take place in the time of pirates, where in principle few people act logically.
Characters
In my opinion, the first season turned out great and colorful characters:
Captain Flint, who is ready to make any sacrifice for the treasure, charismatic, insane and unpredictable, is interestingly shown as he competes in the pursuit of treasure with death itself, each time finding himself in a difficult situation. The man of whom it may be said that the end justifies the means;
Captain Vane, bloodthirsty and daring, sometimes you do not even understand what he wants, which is slightly embarrassing and frightening;
Silver, a typical adventurer, the character on whose behalf the introduction and acquaintance with other characters takes place.
Lady Guthrie, the beauty who wants everything to be fine in Nassau, is ridiculous. Her teenage maximalism sometimes prevents her from making the right decisions. Watching this character develop is a pleasure. I also liked her servant, the person who helps her in everything and tries to think objectively.
The secondary characters are also well done. Everyone has their own character, Jack and Anne, for example, can’t be without each other, but their ways of solving the problem are completely opposite.
Land and sea
Everything about swimming I really liked. The tension that arises before and after the battle, or after the captain’s controversial decisions, the general mood of the team, which seems to be trying to break him, and in general, as far as design and naval battles are concerned, everything looks just great. But when the action takes place on land, the degree of action decreases, although the authors are constantly trying to come up with plot twists that can surprise up to season 2.
Tolerance
Personally, I did not notice any obsessions. Yeah, same-sex love happens, so what? It doesn't get out of the narrative. They are pirates, people who don’t care about the law and rules, except pirates. And I'll tell you more, it's mostly about heterosexual relationships. It also shows how difficult it was for women to get on the team. Also, it shows clearly the slavery of blacks at that time, which is quite bold now.
Season 2
And honestly, somewhere in the middle of this season, the series gets dramatically worse. Characters on average do not develop much, plot twists so often occur that you cease to be surprised. There is almost no sea, because of this dialogue is simply tiresome. I didn’t like flashbacks, so the authors wanted to reveal the characters more, but this is not particularly possible, because they show mostly dialogues that cause even more boredom than in the main plot. The global story seems to have slowed down compared to Season 1. Because of this, the spirit of adventure is lost. A few more words about Flint. He really upset me. From a deep character made some schizophrenic who does not know how to make difficult choices.
Summary
I advise all fans of pirate theme to get acquainted with the series, with season 1 for sure. Then it's up to you. Personally, I will probably stop for Season 2. In principle, the series in this era is not particularly competitors. He looks grown-up and tough. And God, what an amazing ass of the series, added to his playlist.
Season 1 - 8.5 out of 10
Great historical series with naval battles! I started watching and couldn’t stop, a very exciting story! The only thing that came to light was the details of one of the main characters’ personal life, and I experienced cognitive dissonance. Otherwise, I highly recommend it!
The series about pirates, a prequel ' Treasure Island' Stevenson, limited to 4 seasons, which can not but please. Familiar heroes, both fictional and real, are busy with what pirates should be doing - hunting for gold, drinking, going to a brothel, stunting on a ship during calm. However, in addition, they also weave intrigues cleaner than the court of the Spanish king.
Everything looks pretty, in kind, so to speak, size. Heroes are well-known, I’ve been waiting for a parrot to fly to Silver, and Flint will finally bury his chest.
However, there is at least one major flaw in the dramaturgy of the series. The movement of the plot is carried out solely due to (un)unexpected turns. When heroes are faced with a vital choice for the first time, they empathize. When they have to choose between a woman and a friend (money and a woman, loyalty and betrayal, profit and friendship, tea and coffee... sorry) several times in a series (!) it is exhausting.
Many people are outraged by the abundance of strong women in the series, but on modern television you can not without strong women, I am ready to accept this. What I'm not prepared to accept is the way Captain Flint's fate is portrayed at the end of the series. I think that's too much.
Once mastered 'Black sails' you can. But it is because of these eternal twists of the plot (and all the events take three or four months from the force, this is unimaginable!) that the series blows second-rate and I would not advise watching it. Unless there's nothing to do.
I started watching this series back in 2014, then dropped out on season 4. I finally got to see it.
A cry of the soul. I was pissed off in Season 4 with these endless character monologues. It's a nightmare! For example, one character asks about something else, and he immediately begins to pour a stupid monologue for a minute or two. And a totally meaningless monologue! This is not just a problem for this series. But here it is right everywhere, every character of this damn series will turn our souls with their soul-sweating monologues. Hello, gentlemen, did you shoot a series about pirates, or about small fairies? -5 for this.
Tolerance. Overall, the series was pretty much nothing up to a point in Season 2. And after that, the creators went into all seriousness. Infinite number ' strong and independent ' ladies who are all here ' rule ' Gay and lesbian. I give you -5 for that.
Plot. Starting with season 3, the characters' motives and actions begin to resemble the sick fantasy of a schizophrenic. It is very noticeable that the creators of the series tried to stretch it as much as possible, but it turned out extremely unsuccessfully. But despite the absolutely failed seasons 3 and 4, the first 2 were still correctly spelled out and interesting. For this -2.
Characters. The characters of the series were initially strong. I was worried about them as family. Captain Flint, Jack Rackham, Charles Vane. Very well written characters that you really empathize with. The others are typical. However, starting with season 3, these characters were also merged with a talentless script and endless & #39; twists of the soul & #39; in dialogue, so that at the end I did not empathize with them and I was completely indifferent to how the series ends. For this -3.
Then the good stuff. Still, the costumes of the characters, weapons, naval battles and foot battles look great. The same can be said about the surroundings, cities and villages. For this +5.
And for the opening screensaver and music to it +3.
Adventure. A kind of mixture of prehistory ' Treasure Island' Stevenson and the pirate republic of the Bahamas with its capital at Nassau. So finally I finished watching this series, and I am ready to share with you the thoughts that arose from watching this 'shidevra'. In the meantime, my brief opinion is the amusing chronicles of a pirate brothel. This series has pissed me off so much that there will be no mercy! But, I can’t help but note the pluses as well, no matter how they are eclipsed by terrible minuses. Let’s take a quick look at all of this.
So, pluses:
1. Adventure spirit - this would not admit it would be a mistake on my part, since it is saturated with the series. Throughout all four seasons, we watch adventures that include sea battles, battles, treasure hunts, clashes between pirates and civilization, and many more things. I am glad that the creators were able to understand what kind of attitude this series simply needs, and were able to bring it to life.
2. A series of one actor - I'm talking of course about Captain James Flint, whose story I followed from beginning to end, for whose fate I worried, not giving a damn about the rest, who were only a shadow (well, not pale) of a brave captain. I will tell you more about it below, but for now it will be correct to call this series ' Black Sails of Captain Flint '.
3. The budget of the series was good, and the era of the Golden Age of Piracy is well known to the mass audience. Guess what happens when you mix these two ingredients? That's right, we'll get a good implementation. And you can not say that all the field shooting took place in South Africa, thousands of kilometers from the scene.
4. Battles and battles are also performed at a good level. Not a masterpiece, of course, but not a middle man. The implementation personally pleased me. It's bloody, but without the details. Lovers of sword fights should definitely like it.
This list of pluses ends, surprisingly it is small, but it was just a seed before the real circus on horses, which is waiting for you right now.
So, minuses:
1. Gayism and lesbianism are your fucking dragons! How much is that? Can't we do without that? Are you the creators? You what? Holy shit. I naively thought I was watching an adventure series about pirates, not about the various perversions between them. Still, the series should be called ' Rainbow Sails' it would more reflect the essence of things that happen throughout the seasons. It's annoying. I feel that if I see another series on a historical or adventure theme (or medieval fantasy), where this theme is as vivid as it is here, I will consider every new series to be gay or lesbian by default, and I will not watch it, no matter how well it calls out big acting names.
2. Feminism - this topic is even more widely represented than the previous one. Well, think for yourself - there are two whores, moreover, lesbians, who spin pirates as they want, but periodically satisfy them, so as not to interfere with their dark deeds. Moreover, even among fugitive slaves, everything is ruled by a woman with indisputable authority. And the creators put it on a serious scale - and try to assure us that it was so, and most importantly, so normal. Do you understand what this is all about? I understand, and I hope you will draw the right conclusions and understand why I am against this. Remember! Feminists unused! This world belongs to men, then, today, and tomorrow will be the same. If you turn everything around, the world will collapse.
3. Chronicles of the pirate brothel - by the way, another title for this series, because during the first and second seasons we have to watch the underside of the pirate brothel with its unnecessary and nasty details, with visualization and appropriate sounds. I'm not a prude, but it's just too much.
4. Muzzy and nasty scenes are like going to the toilet and so on. That's why you had to put it in the series? Does that work? Revealing characters? That's exactly what's not, it's just a display of abomination.
5. Boredom - I watched the first and second seasons through the force, almost holding back from stopping this torment, but the third season pleased me, while the fourth made me look through the force again. Saved the momentum and dialogue, but that's all.
6. Music - why there is no good and high-quality music that adequately conveyed the spirit of the series.
7. The screensaver - is that forgiving? What is this wax thing? Yes, against this background, the screensaver in the series 'Skull and Bones' looks like a masterpiece.
8. 'Fused' Finale - After watching the finale, I realized where Beniof and Weiss borrowed their ' Ending' 'Game of Thrones' And that's not good. I'm talking about Captain Flint, I'm against a final like this, he deserved another one! It’s good that not all the characters are so monstrous 'leaked ' but this does not comfort me.
A bit about the main characters:
1. Captain James Flint, played by Toby Stevens, is the most dangerous pirate in the Caribbean. A man obsessed with his rage and his purpose, and an experienced strategist and tactician, which makes him a formidable opponent. Unfortunately, the hand of the pervert got to this hero and he was spoiled, but that does not change my respect for the captain. And how lucky I came across the new song of the band 'Epidemic called ' Choice is!' where such words are present ' But how can revenge serve as a motive for a hero?' And I say that I can, because Flint is more of an antihero with his charisma, who has committed many cruel acts that will make his hair stand on end. Toby's beautiful here, and I don't think anyone would dare to dispute that. For despite all his actions, and not only did he do evil things, I was still worried about his fate, because he served his purpose. An idealist with a bloody blade and pistols. Toby deserves my applause!
2. Charles Vane performed by Zach McGowan is no less charismatic antipode of Flint. Too cruel, but devoted to his craft man, with whom it is better not to quarrel. While their relationship with Flint is interesting, it's a mild word. And if I didn't love Charles at first, then I got more and more into him. Zach milk!
I can say with confidence that I liked the series and even very much. Many people complain that there are not enough sea battles and action mainly on the shore, but I am completely satisfied with this. I had enough battles, and on the shore unfolded such intrigues that any dear look. Events are exciting, interest does not weaken until the very end.
Not without minuses and they, I must say, significant. The annoying propaganda of same-sex love has already crossed all boundaries in modern cinema. It comes to the fact that almost every first they have a non-traditional orientation there. And if before it was limited to secondary characters, now with frightening frequency it began to spread to the main ones. In order not to spoil the impression of the film, I had to abstract from this part of the story.
Another disappointment of the series was the absence of characters close in spirit. It's when you sit and you look and you think, 'Well, why are you all such freaks?' & #39 Someone with a hard heart still accept, because you need to worry about someone.
But I discovered a new amazing actor, which was the undoubted plus of the series - Zach McGowan. His character was my favorite and just pleased when he appeared on the screen.
The stories of the characters are worked out very deeply, but sometimes there was a feeling of illogicality of their actions. It is obvious that personalities were driven into the plot, and they did not influence it. The female characters were irritating. So disgusting aunts there that you can reach misogyny.
And still to view definitely recommend, as the pros outweigh the cons, in my opinion. Cons can and should be omitted, because the series has its own unique charm. In addition, if you compare it with other series, it sets a very high level.
Raise the pirate flag and go in pursuit of the treasures of Spanish galleons. To fight a rotten civilization in the face of colonial England. Anarchy is all of us. But do not forget that love rules the world, and this thought will run through all seasons.
I wanted to see the life of pirates on land and sea, to see sea battles on grand ships, to get acquainted with what was happening in pirate ports. The first series really opens the door to this world. We see pirates boarding a ship, seizing and dividing the loot. Gradually, we are introduced to how duties are distributed among team members, why you need a boatsman and a quartermaster, how to divide portions of food.
Before us appears Captain Flint and sneaky Silver, here the famous Ranger led by Charles Vane, who is helped by Jack Rackham along with Anne Bonnie. The series has no claim to historical authenticity, because characters from different eras, books were at the same time in 1715 on the island of New Providence. Here they can rest after swimming, as well as sell the goods they have seized. The governor organized trade and property that the pirates seized. In fact, the entire island is ruled by the daughter of the governor Eleanor Guthrie, who skillfully maintains a system under which a woman organizes violent at sea, but not capable of anything on land without her approval, influence and support of men. Recently, such a union has become a stamp in films.
Most of the time pirates are on the island, rather than on the sea, and constantly find out the relationship, move from one side to the other, yesterday's partners, become enemies. It would seem that such behavior should not be surprising, because they are pirates, they will be betrayed only if it is beneficial to them. But in fact, there is no logic in the actions of the characters, the motivation is very murky. The series tries to survive on big names, ideas, violence and sex.
One of the leading characters is Captain Flint. In the series, he is shown as a schizophrenic with a delusion of persecution. And that's just in the pursuit of treasure. I wonder what will happen to him when he gets the gold. And no matter how psychopathic he is, there are always people who faithfully follow him, despite all his oddities, even if he uses them as cannon fodder. I hope you catch the lunacy of this situation. Flint talks all the time about some kind of future that demands living through dark, terrible times. And first he needs gold, then war, then destroy the British. He carries philosophical nonsense that Silver, the team, and the people that Flint tried to kill a couple of hours ago.
Captain Wayne. One of the few captains who could compete with Blackbeard in violence and brutality. In the first series, Wayne matches his prototype with a rough, tough, ruthless thug. But in the end, he becomes a romantic nanny that continues to lose everything, first for a woman, and then for the pirates, whom he did not care, but in the end he somehow decides to go to war with England for their future. And here the creators of the series make a mistake, like all writers, that betrayed the piracy of a romantic look. He's the coldest pirate of his century. It should not be a pity, especially in this way.
Eleanor Guthrie. This lady is the daughter of the governor who organized the system in Nassau (the port of New Providence), the father abandoned his daughter with his mother on an island full of pirates. Over time, the girl enlisted the support of allies. Namely such captains as Wayne and Flint, drove Edward Teach and began to host the island. But there's always something wrong. Then the lover rebels, then Flint will have something in his head, and he will declare war on Nassau, then the former mistress will set traps against the unfortunate queen of pirates because of resentment. Very often my hand and face touched at the sight of all the experiences and hardships of life that Eleanor had to experience.
John Silver. In the first series, he fits my idea of him as a Treasure Island hero, only a few years younger. His inquisitive mind allows you to get out of dangerous situations alive, Mr. Silver is slippery, quirky, knows how to show that you can not do without him. But then the writers somewhere lost a desperate agile young man and got a depressed melancholic who follows Flint. Moreover, if Silver initially forced Flint to accept him, then they did not need to stay close. The question always arises, what connects Silver and Flint? And no answers. It seems to me that the writers wrote everything that comes to mind without thinking about what it looks like.
Max. If many characters held at least until the end of the first season, then this character always amazed with his actions. Imagine if a hostage from the film ' Silence of the Lambs' came to save a man on whom she was offended. And then the victim is like, "No, go away, I'm going to stay here because it was your fault." This is what Max does all 4 seasons. At the same time, the heroine managed to make a career leap. She is very handsome, as the writers try to seem smart, but in fact – no.
Jack Rackham. At first he stayed in the shadow of Captain Vane. Rackham is very similar to Jack Sparrow. He is smart, he is not strong in fencing, but he has no equal in multi-movements, and he also has an amazing gift of conviction. Jack in the series tries to imitate Vane and Teach. Gradually, he loses his identity and disappears into a crowd of pirates who for some reason follow Flint, then Silver, then for some other reason. He is constantly trying to show that he can be a captain no worse than others. Meet Jack, Captain Jack.
It’s one of the characters that has been interesting to watch for two seasons, and for this series, it’s progress. Even the illogical actions of the writers managed to fit into the image for a long time.
Anne Bonnie? A partner in Jack in both the 17th century and the series. In our world, Anne is known as the “thunderstorm of the seas”, in the series they talk about her as a pirate without fear. The actions of this character, although sometimes questioned, but still for the most part, I understood the motives of actions. I didn’t like the fact that they tried to show her as stupid, able only to kill, I really didn’t like it, it would be possible to reveal the character better. But in general, if not attached to the prototype, then this character turned out best. Captain Wayne once said that he was surprised how the couple managed to come out alive and unharmed. And in fact, they were able to do this thanks to Jack’s mind and language, the quirkiness and courage of Anne Boney.
There are other interesting characters in the series. In general, there are not so many sea battles, more often pirates loitering in the port and solving their problems there. Two seasons, that's the most you can stand in this series... and the last one.
Pirates. A romanticized image in our heads, inflated by books and bizarre stories far from reality. Many people associate with absolute free and sea breeze pleasantly caressing the face.
However, one of the stories that goes into the peak, the very essence of piracy still excites the minds! It is no longer possible to distinguish between what was and what was fiction. All threads are intertwined in a tight thread, making up one whole.
Once upon a time, once upon a time, in those times of rampage and total freedom, there was one pirate who challenged not only the sea but the whole world: Flint. There are legends about his terrible deeds, and corpses are dotted with the paths where this terrible man passed. But that’s not what bothers daredevils, is it? The Treasure of Captain Flint.
But first, you need to know the history of these treasures to trace their path and the real price. Do you really think it was that simple? Robbing a dozen ships and hiding treasure, killing six of his men? Oh, no! The truth is much worse!
What about the other legend? The most dangerous cunning man is Mr. John Silver. Oh, this man was on equal footing with Flint, and even he was afraid of him, which no one had ever done before! But Mr. Silver wasn’t always that scary. Once he was someone completely different, but it was Flint. You're gonna have to sit down and buy me some rum to hear the whole story. Full of horrors, secrets, betrayal intrigues and murders. Oh, yeah! Truly deadly charming!
P.S. One of the most underrated series! What a pity it ended so quickly. Stunning costumes, amazing actors and sound. Only some protractedness of the beginning prevents you from completely immersed in this story. Well, what are the views here ... especially in the first season. I want to go to Nassau immediately.
Highly recommended. Especially for lovers of pirate themes, you are not here the Caribbean Sea, but a place much more cruel.

I just watched the fourth season, so I decided to write this review, although I usually never wrote them for films.
If suddenly you, the reader, are thinking about whether to watch this series or not, I would advise you to abandon this idea. I’ve watched all 4 seasons myself, and I suggest you refuse to watch others. Why didn't I drop the screening myself then? But now I will explain everything!
The positive thing about the series is that there is something to hook, it is interesting to know what will happen next, how to resolve the situation. Just like any other series. But the series is not a film, and therefore the requirements for it are higher, for its consistency, for the logic of the plot.
The plot is quite interesting on the one hand, but completely repulsed and devoid of common sense and logic on the other. Good intelligent strategists - captains in it lose incredibly stupidly, having all the solutions on the surface, and if in their place any person without mental retardation, he would win in the place of these captains, but they act in the most stupid way and die or are captured. Having a greatly superior combat power of the ship, they do not use it to sink the enemy, but board, for example, and lose the battle. Everything is absurd, all decisions are absurd. This series is wildly unbelievable! In it, a black woman, a former slave and whore, is offered to marry the offspring of a powerful English family, and she refuses! And it's in the 18th century! Whoever married her, even for the sake of a cause, even for the sake of power or wealth, when it was believed that slaves and souls do not, it was probably in the minds of the gentlemen who lived then, was close to marrying a dog. Pirate leaders are always reflexive, fighting each other, and then banding together, and in these eternal throwings people around them die over and over again, but as if it means nothing. Too many times in a row, forgiving those for whom someone died again and again, and those who had to be killed 10 times already, and this would save many other lives in the future, and not killed, although in reality these people would have many times been cut off for such actions. In life, so many people do not forgive, do not forgive one mistake.
At some point, the main antihero becomes a normal man, a normal warrior, determined, brave, and his relatively normal wife, the English. And against them are the leaders of pirates, the heroes of the series - a gay, a white cripple and his beloved black woman, and a few more ambiguous personalities. It’s not like there’s a #39... .phobias', sexism, racism, etc., but it is very striking that it is not by chance that the characters in the series were blacks - former slaves, gay, crippled, too many women - hostess and leaders, too much lesbian love, etc.
This film is not about pirates, not about daredevils, not about strategists. Sometimes it seemed to me that I was watching Santa Barbara, the plot turns are made for the sake of twists, obvious, straightforward, subordinate to the same principle that they are already expected, and designed for the viewer for whom the main emotion, even if there is no common sense in what is happening, so much reflection and dialogue about some feelings and experiences, and they are so long, the characters communicate too slowly.
A series about pirates should not be about feelings and experiences, but about great deeds, about strategy, about cunning, about courage and courage. A person who sacrifices efficiency, people, deeds for the sake of some vague feelings, some strange interpersonal relationships, is not a great captain. But in this series, more worthy and constructive characters die.
I will give him 5 out of 10, only for a good picture sometimes, for more or less interesting episodes, although in general the series is stitched with wild illogicality, implausibility that cuts the eye, and causes protest, at least for me. What Sherlock bought is that everything is logically right. In the same series, everything is logically wrong, too many feelings, too little mind.

The series is based on Stevenson’s Treasure Island and follows events that occurred before the map fell into the hands of young Jim Hawkins. This original prequel tells the story of how Captain Flint became a pirate, how John Silver got into his team, and, of course, how Flint accumulated his countless treasures.
Unlike Stevenson’s book, Black Sails is aimed exclusively at adult audiences – there are scenes of violence and nudity in each episode. At the same time, the series is not limited to tavern fights and sea battles - a huge part of the plot is based on endless intrigues and revealing the stories of the main characters, which makes the series not only spectacular, but also really interesting.
Naturally, there are shortcomings in the series: for example, many may not like too sudden plot twists in the biography of some characters, small inconsistencies, etc.
In general, the series is very good and definitely deserves attention.
- Politics does not make great people. Not prudence or decency. All of them, every one of them, became great because of one thing only – the tireless struggle for a better world.
BlackSails is a series about the era of pirates, their rapid development and sad end in the 18th century. It is sad because it is too romanticized this class of people, the kind of martyrs who trade in ignoble deeds for the survival and equality of different classes of people. A time for illustrious captains, grand flagship ships, untold stories forgotten in centuries and pirate honor.
According to many, the series is not inferior in scope to the flagship project HBO and this is a small amount of truth, but sometimes the mind of many suffers collapse after isolated unexpected turns issued by the authors. Screenwriters do not spare the characters, they use all dirty tricks to satisfy the emotional passion of the audience, but in between these events, ship battles and skillful sword fights very rarely appear, more often the viewer is fed empty and frankly boring dialogues. Don’t get me wrong, the battles are staged at the highest level and made beautifully by the standards of the possibilities of a television project, but there are so few... so few.
Screenwriters do not hesitate to use real historical personalities, when they appear, the spark that generates audience interest undoubtedly appears, but with the departure of these characters, the series again goes down the path of despair. A vivid example here is Edward Teach, his appearance is immensely pathetic, his departure is matchless. Due to the infusion of such a character, the series rose from its knees and firmly stood on its feet, but no more. To jump above his head still failed.
The series will undoubtedly appeal to many, some of them he will hook, some of it will be forgotten in a couple of days, some of it will seem boring. One thing is for sure, the series will occupy its worthy niche on the pedestal due to its atmosphere of that era, thanks to the rare, but worthy action, thanks to those few, but very charismatic characters and philosophical conversations from every second courtesan and pirate.

What do you want to do with me – I have never seen anything like this in cinema.
Black sails
Honestly, it's all Neil Marshall's fault. I don't care about Michael Transformerovich Bay's production. The theme of piracy is one hundred percent neutral for Z. I can look, I can't look. We're definitely not looking for anything. Although at one time they went beyond “Pirates of the Caribbean” – for example, Polanski had a filmmaker, Harlin and others.
But these are all seeds, a real cob — after all, Marshall. After all, this director managed to make three films in a row, which I really liked. Who else can do that? None of the modern directors. Only veterans. Therefore, I climbed into his filmography the other day, some “Black Sails”, a cool poster, we will take risks.
Guys-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a I'm crazy excited, all positive emotions. I watched the show with my eyes wide open, I was amazed. All the characters provoke a reaction. You know, absolutely everything. Some with time, and some comrades begin to tear immediately.
And that's not all! Since the reaction is constantly changing, take Wayne. Terrible, sullen - you begin to hate him, and in the second half of the series you can not live without this man. Take Jack and Anne, they're backing up, Lord. A strange couple (even purely externally), a strange storyline, still - you worry!
The plot is great, twisted, twisted. The moment that reveals Flint's character (why he became a pirate at all) was a shock. Many moviegoers were outraged, Z applauded at the time. Very much, very deeply, nobody faked. For female characters, a low bow. For debauchery - even lower (the nudity is very much for the series, the channel apparently decides, "Ash all cut" seemed to be shown on it).
If you think that you are waiting for grandiose large-scale battles here - close the page at once. No, a couple of battles was, anyway, it was a conversational movie, you need to listen to it. And this is a separate respect for fellow writers — listened, er, four seasons flew literally in one second.
Black Sails is a wonderful series, no words. I never thought I'd say that to pirate cinema - I love it. And almost forgot, Ray Stevenson finally got a good role, really waited.
Perhaps it should be noted in advance: this review will be a review of the fan. You will not find here any sparkling hamstrings, nor ruthless criticism, although, if to reason objectively, this series certainly did not avoid shoals and some plot sags, but if you are interested in the opinion of a person who sat down for watching “Black Sails” from terrible boredom, not expecting anything outstanding, but suddenly became his ardent fan, then I think you will need my meager thoughts.
“Black Sails” is one of many other epic projects of the Starz TV channel, famous for such products. They brought us “Spartacus” with its rusty-eyed CGI-battles and fake blood directly into the camera, just like in first-person shooters; they also paid tribute to the love novel of American Diana Gabaldon, filming “Outlander”, which later became a hit channel. Starz is always blood, zealous battles, a lot of frank scenes of a variety of directions, and it’s not only bisexual or same-sex love, but in the courage of angles, screen time, style of presentation. This can be found more or less in the Black Sails. All this is the key to the success of any modern ambitious series. Then what is the main difference between "Sails" from dozens of similar products of current television production?
I'll put it this way: in layers. The layers of human souls. In their fragility, in their contradiction, in their history. It is on history that the whole story is built. On the story of Captain Flint, on which literally depends all life on Nassau, because it is he, as befits the protagonist, one way or another moves all the other characters to fatal acts and actions. If you were expecting Pirates of the Caribbean with all the flavor of Jack Sparrow's eccentricity, ironic dialogue and semi-fantasy battles, you won't find any of this here. Black Sails is a harsh tale about thieves and murderers who fought for the right to rob and kill, told in an old soaked voice in the wrong light of burning candles. It's a story about people. Evil, bloodthirsty, crazy and infidels, who became under the black sails for a variety of reasons and not always because of a difficult fate, however, with all this ... still about people. I find it incredibly surprising how tenderly and gradually the characters of the characters were revealed. How multifaceted they were inside. That the tyrant, who has become the thunderstorm of the whole New World, harbors indelible pain from the loss of loved ones. That a kid who had never cared about anyone in his life suddenly found a brotherhood among dangerous criminals. That Long John Silver is actually a painstakingly invented legend, created to summon under his dark banners the entire rabble of the Atlantic coast. And that even the creator of the legend of such a force may not one day hold in his hands all its power.
The central characters are colorful in a very different way - they admire the gravity of their sins, they are disgraced, changeable, like the sea that they ply, they are ready to kill each other, but - how funny - they will not allow someone else to kill a brother. “It was a war against everyone,” the short preface in the very first episode of the first season recounts, and it’s true. It was also a war against each other, and it’s not even that pirate alliances a priori cannot be strong, but because the characters are trying to survive and defend their land, so their fight has no clear sides and boundaries, it all depends on a more promising deal.
Watching all this, seeing the natural development of the characters and their relationships, at some elusive moment of climax suddenly realize that among all of them, perhaps, there is no one you would not feel sorry for. Surprisingly, you understand everyone’s motives, you see their thirst to survive until the next day, you watch the escalating conflict from a variety of perspectives, and you just can’t pick the one person you really care about. Creating bright charismatic fraudsters is not so difficult, but bringing something human into them that could distinguish them from each other and bring them together with the viewer is a skill worthy of respect. The heroes are set off by circumstances and themselves, watching this is equally interesting and difficult, but nevertheless exciting. Acting, plot twists, dialogues (for which I am able to sell my soul, for, Gods, it is in them that the whole meaning), juicy shots that give unforgettable aesthetic pleasure, as well as the always magnificent Bar McCreary as a composer and in itself a story that began brightly, catchyly, harshly and ended with a feeling of tortured fatigue from war, which no longer has meaning, making James Flint’s monologue goose that all of them, despite any conciliatory alliances, will remain only dragons in terrorizing children. They will not be remembered by people.
"Black Sails" is a bold mix of historicity, speculation and freethinking of the writers. This is a series that is frivolous enough to play with facts and at the same time carefully weaving fleeting moments from history and the source (“Treasure Island”) into the plot. This is a series with magnificent story turns, from which it is truly breathtaking, it is only necessary to dig a little deeper. After all, it’s a series about the friendship of two bad people—one who was too dependent on his past and one who never had one. Yes, he has sins, but let’s face one simple truth: What historical epic drama doesn’t have them? The ideal will never exist. "Black Sails" catch despite all its obvious and not very errors, and from the realization of this involuntarily wonder: then why the noisy popularity passed by this series? After all, this project definitely deserved at least a little more response and words to its address.
“Only those traditions that we want to believe live forever...”
I think a lot of people think that pirates are a kind of Disney fantasy or a “piastre parrot and a bottle of rum.” “Black sails” destroy this habitual one-dimensional image of pirates. The series is devoid of templates and cliches. This is a story in which people come to life with their thoughts, dreams, aspirations, thirst for revenge, enrichment, power. Those who are ruined by pride or destroyed by the betrayal of their own brothers, and those who rise from obscurity, gaining strength not even by the force of arms, but by words and even by just looking.
I am absolutely convinced that Black Sails is one of the best and most underrated modern series, a really cool series in almost all directions. For what do we have?
Colorful heroes. Yes, most of them are pirates, seemingly “bad guys”, but the stories of many of them are dramatic, they are incredibly exciting and empathetic. Brilliant acting ensemble, great casting.
Smart, interesting, chic, almost Shakespearean dialogues and monologues (especially Flint – Silver, very good and Charles Vane, yes, all good!). Listening to heroes is often no less exciting than watching battles at sea and on land.
When the king calls us pirates, it does not mean that he wants to make us his adversaries or to declare us criminals. He wants to make us monsters. For this is the only way for his God-fearing, taxed subjects to understand people who keep what belongs to them and have no fear.
They paint a world full of shadows and then tell their children to stay close to the light. Their light. Their arguments, their judgments. Because there are dragons in the dark. But that's not true. We can prove it wrong. In the dark there is discovery, there is opportunity, there is freedom.
Fascinating story. If in the first season a lot of space is given to the notorious eroticism, then everything changes. "Black Sails" competently mix history and fiction, truth and fantasy. The intrigue does not weaken literally until the end. Conflicts, confrontations, rivalries between different heroes and groups look absolutely real, and the staging of all this is impressive. Sea battles are exciting, plus computer graphics does not spoil the picture at all. As a result, everything looks very believable and beautiful: sails, ships, the sky, palm trees, the sea in all its manifestations - from dead calm to a destructive storm - everything is just perfect. And the hot Caribbean sun (yes, I know I shot this show in Africa) that pervades the entire series.
And at the center of all this is the figure of Captain Flint, who ceased to be a legend from the pages of Stevenson’s fairy tale, and became a real man with his passions, sins, vices, love and hatred, rage, pain, suffering, dreams. The finale of his story was ambiguous and someone may be disappointed. But what is certain is that, having pulled Flint out of the legend, the creators of Black Sails eventually send him to this legend.
One downside (which I won’t mention, for spoiler) is a great show. Bravo.
In my opinion, Black Sails is the most impressive series I have seen in the last few years.
The series is interesting because, unlike many other works about pirates, it shows without embellishment what pirates do, there are also no unequivocally positive and unambiguously negative characters, the motivation of each hero’s actions is quite clear, thanks to this presentation, watching the series is much more interesting.
I would like to highlight the performance of Toby Stevens, who perfectly got used to the role of Captain Flint and managed to show the complexity of this character. Actresses who played Max and Eleanor Guthrie, on the contrary, did not impress, despite the fact that the characters themselves are interesting and with a good performance of the actors could hook much more. Disappointed Blackbeard, this character expected more: sometimes he resembled not a terrible pirate, and some kind uncle, but this is more a claim to the writers.
It was interesting to watch how the series develops from season to season: if in the first season we saw a fervent video series about pirates, with a large number of bed scenes and fights, then in the second story became much more complicated, the characters of the main characters were more deeply shown, the series became much more dynamic and meaningful. The third season, in my opinion, in all respects, was significantly inferior to the second, while in the fourth the creators of the series caught up with what was lost: there were dynamics, and unexpected plot twists, and the intensity of passions, while there was no trace of the backlash of the first season.
If we talk about the finale of the series, then, in general, it is impressive, although such a finale can be partially called open, well, I do not like such endings: if we finish such dynamic stories, it is clear and clear ... but this is my personal opinion.
Ladies and gentlemen, I want to tell you the following, the series “Black Sails” from the first season I thought very worthy, as it intrigued and often presented many pleasant surprises and unexpected moments and I was a fan of this series.
But season 4 is something special for me, I even want to intrigue everyone by the fact that season 4 is not only an interesting and unpredictable plot, but also a lot of philosophy, namely, a lot of wise and really smart interesting arguments in the series, you just begin to get involved in this whole history of the war, you begin to penetrate into the history of each hero and hardly choose who to cheer for, although there is one unsurpassed among them all, which is very difficult to understand I will not call it, if not without spoilers.
In other words, the series is more than worthy I have not yet watched the finale specifically stopped before the very end to write a review without emotion.
A good show, as you know, should go on takeoff, not drag on for years, transforming into a dull gum and becoming a miserable likeness of himself. Black sails, fortunately, belong to the first category. Starz management was smart enough not to delay the adventures of Captain Flint and Long John Silver, turning the pirate saga into a soap opera. In fact, the third season, as it seemed a year ago, has in some places lost the former freshness and energy inherent in “Sails” at the dawn of the project (and even deprived us of Charles Wayne – perhaps the most charismatic of the secondary characters of the series). However, the fourth call into the muddy waters of the Flibuster seas again demonstrated the presence of a tailwind in the sails. The story ended on time and the finale was decent. The final three episodes became a real decoration of the project: they not only led to a quite harmonious logical end to all the storylines, but finally clashed with their foreheads in an open confrontation between Flint and Silver - and all this on the creepy, atmospheric island of the Skeletons.
Looking back, Black Sails is perhaps one of the most underrated series of the last five years. Starting in 2014 as a purely stylish guilty pleasure with a sea of blood and nudity, from the second season, the brainchild of Michael Bay made an unexpected turn towards expanding the dramatic component and depth of the characters. The writers managed to create, in fact, a whole universe consisting of unlike each other, recognizable, interesting, unconventional heroes. Many characters turned out so successful that, if desired, they could become a theme for a separate series (the same above-mentioned Charles Vane deserved a personal spin-off, and the evolution of Jack Rackham from the first season to the finale of the fourth is simply chic). Sometimes the authors of the plot pretty much overstepped the stick with the constant transitions of the heroes from one warring camp to another (the concepts of allies and opponents in Black Sails are generally extremely conditional - most of the characters managed to betray each other more than once). Over time, these constant defections and conspiracies, growing periodically into full-fledged wars, even began to tire a little, and some characters involuntarily begin to wish for a quick death (Max, played by Jessica Parker Kennedy, it seems, repeatedly managed to cause an acute desire to finish her off not only in almost all the characters, but also in the audience). However, the authors of “Sails” are too smart to be so wasteful of human resources. No, of course, a lot of people die with taste, but the death in the Black Sails universe is more an inevitable evil than a way to keep the audience’s attention by killing someone’s favorites. And even the very end of the series surprisingly tries to avoid violence, thus emphasizing that the authors put not artistic bloodletting, but the acquisition of man himself. The quintessence of the whole project is not the pursuit of wealth or the trivial pursuit of power. No, it's a lot thinner here. Just to kill half of the main characters in the denouement is too easy, so even at the very moment when it seems that it is impossible to resolve a long-overdue conflict otherwise, there are levers, tools that convince you that death is for death, and war for war is not the best way of existence. The denouement gives each of the main characters his chance for another rebirth, and in the air remains the question of what price each person is willing to pay for his dreams and aspirations finally become reality. In general, it turned out that “Game of Thrones”, only in the scenery of the Caribbean Islands of the early XVIII century. At the same time, of course, “Black Sails” did not lose their corporate style, until the last frame, continuing to remain a magnificent and from a purely visual point of view spectacle.
Black Sails was originally claimed as a prequel to Robert Lewis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel Treasure Island. And with the task of telling the back story of the treasure of Captain Flint, the authors of the project coped with a hurrah. They managed not only to create an extensive pirate universe full of characters and events, populated by both fictional and real heroes, but also to do it with respect to the original. And the main thing they managed to do is to give seemingly familiar from childhood classic characters a completely new non-banal motivation. Who would have thought that buried on a remote tropical island chest of gold could hide such a rich history, which involves London politicians, colonial governors, American traders, as well as pirates and slaves. And all this thick Caribbean cocktail is involved in the Anglo-Spanish war, the uprising of slaves and the desire of one very purposeful and extraordinary man ... no, not to profit — but to change the world.
It seems that the first full-fledged pirate TV saga definitely succeeded – the show “clings” not only with a juicy picture and spectacular scenery, but also with intriguing plot moves, and bright, carefully prescribed characters.
The latter is remembered especially well. The third season was delayed, but the fourth put everything in its place. It has the expected hecatomba and the unexpected final catharsis. I love adventure films with reflection and final tricks. Flint’s gay haters may be the finale, but it’s good. Pirates in front of our eyes evolved into just the ideological and principled whales, towering above the near contemporaries. The nuances of the relationship between Flint and Silver, for all the difference in husks, reminded me of Hannibal’s second season, with the equally complex partnership of two highly immoral psychiatrists. Yes, in fact, the dialogue between pirates and really often resemble techniques of psychotherapy. The fourth season is strikingly different from the fussy simple intrigues of previous seasons. Silver has evolved toward a well-meaning, well-meaning Moriarty, counting on a hundred moves ahead. There is not a single nudity or sex scene in the season. The note was taken epic-supreme, nothing remained of the shelupon “fight-flight”. No one needs money in the size of a treasure. Unexpected Israel Hands (not bald at all). I recently came back from the Caribbean and I’m really wondering how Elizabeth Garridge’s complexion has been preserved. All the way Flint is a pretty average shirt, Israel Hands is a shirt on the head above all (see the bout with Billy), but in the final Flint is head above Hands. The above trifles do not negate the fact that the fourth season directly allows you to increase the score of the series as a whole. Quality entertainment, with aftertaste, well delivered, with ambition. Not “Game of Thrones”, of course (there is the scale and scope of another), but not stupid primitive Spartacus.

I think a lot of people are familiar with names like “Long John Silver,” “Blackbeard,” “Jack Rackham,” “Captain Flint,” and “Anne Boney.” And even if you do not know their detailed biographies, in the minds of almost any person, these personalities will be associated with the golden age of piracy, rum, treasure maps and other attributes inherent in this topic. To date, the image of pirates has been significantly “romanticized” – such free sailors, robbing ships and living for their pleasure. However, behind this mask lies a completely different basis, consisting of betrayal, cruelty and rivers of blood.
It is in “Black Sails” that we unvarnishedly show the true face of piracy. Instead of the usual romanticism, we see the true essence of this life, which is not much different from ordinary banditry. These people were nothing more than robbers who robbed and killed for profit, plotted and intrigued to achieve their goals. They pay for everything here not with piasters, but with their own lives, which are practically worthless.
I note that the series was shot very high quality: juicy and bright picture pleasantly pleases the eye; costumes, scenery, staging of battles, both land and sea – were at the highest level. The beautiful soundtrack and the opening screensaver reflected the spirit of the pirate age. The actors were chosen just fine: they ate, drank, moved, killed and expressed the emotions characteristic of thugs walking under black sails. I think the real pirates were like that.
However, despite all the seemingly good basis, the plot was pumped up. Especially since the third season, where the boring dialogue began, which stretched to almost the entire series. I believe that such a series should have been more filled with “action”, a beautiful picture of the battles and the lives of pirates, rather than philosophical reflections. Of course, no one is saying that these people were too stupid or primitive to build a pirate empire and control a ship is by no means easy work, and it requires certain mental abilities. However, to show this, it was not necessary to fall into extremely inappropriate dialogues, most of which practically did not affect the plot.
But nevertheless, the film crew did a good job, for which they from me:

It seemed like they wanted to, but they were lazy. Or they couldn't.
The series, of course, if you do not pay attention to sunglasses, plastic handbag handles and others ' small & #39; shortcomings, quite consistent with the declared 1715. And the interior in the style of the early 1900s, and humanity, imposed by modern legislation, and loyalty to everyone. It would seem that blackmailing a pirate is a slit throat and a corpse in a canal/river/cove. Ahn no! In fact, pirates were very friendly and law-abiding people who only wanted to cultivate the land and herd cows. Land of criminals, as they say proudly in the series. By the way, very similar to justifying the appearance of pindo... oh, the United States. Well, it's okay it's me. Quite watchable series: dull (deeply) dialogue, poor (although for tk Home and tc it is quite great) play of actors. In general, if you do not include the brain, you can. If it's disabled for life, you're definitely here. If not, turn it off, and if I can't, don't look. Vomiting and many, many expressions are provided.
The quality of a work of art - the presence of an idea.
This is a very strong series, strong in its idea. No, not even like that, an idea. A capital idea. And that's the measure of the show. The same Game of Thrones does not contain any idea, the usual squabbling and the struggle for the throne. What's going on here?
The worldviews of people, different worlds collide with each other. In the struggle for peace, each side tries to denigrate the other. In the pirate brotherhood, everyone is equal, while Europe is mired in corruption and the pursuit of super profits. One oblique look or word, and there is a bullet in your head, and there is refined manners and poverty. What do you choose? To become free, to join a fraternity and try your luck at sea, or to work and watch the lords get rich?
Nassau followed the madman. He went on to get rich. He had to bow before the tyrant. But now he has a king.
When you hear those names, Long John Silver. John Flint... Billy Bones ...
Then the hands and reach for the imaginary steering wheel of the ship under black sails, or the handle of the saber and pistol, which call you into the thick of the battle. And all this is accompanied by the cries of the parrot “Piasters!” Piasters! Piasters!
When first there was information about the creation of the series based on “Treasure Island”, which will be the backstory of the legendary book – it seemed to everyone that they would shoot the next “Pirates of the Caribbean”, but in a television manner. And even the name of Michael Bay in the list of creators indicated this.
However, in the end, the final product exceeded all, even the most daring, expectations!
We were shown the real life of pirates, without any specialties. We got acquainted with mores on a pirate ship, as well as in the pirate society in their monastery - Nassau.
As the main characters, we were presented not only fictional characters, but also real historical figures who walked under black sails. Charles Vane, Ben Hornigold, Jack Rackham, Anne Boney – and of course the incomparable Edward Thach performed by Ray Stevens.
We are shown a real epic, where there is a place for everything - heroism and cowardice, honesty and hypocrisy, loyalty and betrayal.
We see how John Silver goes through the entire ladder of the pirate community – from the despised newcomer, to the sergeant, for the sake of whose respect and approval people who recently spit into him are ready to go to anything.
And this is just one of the stories of the ups and downs of the characters of the series.
One of the advantages is:
Excellent acting.
Beautiful battle scenes.
- Impressive panoramas and views.
The following can be attributed to the disadvantages:
- Some sagging of the plot around the middle of each season.
In general and in general "Black Sails is a great picture, which will undoubtedly appeal to connoisseurs of the genre.
"Take what you want and don't give it back!" (though it's from another universe)
