A successful family finishes their day. Only one rebellious nature - the girl Lisa, again and again devalues the family dinner and preparation for his own birthday. Something leads Lisa to the same type of what is happening, and parents in turn complain about the transitional age and hobbies (Lisa Kakbe goth), but the family is lucky - they are British, which means that very soon mysticism will manifest itself.
The film is in the style of “House with a Mystery”, and the mystery itself was entrusted to solve a girl with Gothic undertakings. From the first shot, I was drawn into the teenage world of a goth girl from the 80s. With all the finely crafted exquisites, like The Cure, and the face of David Bowie from the poster on the wall. But, from the aesthetics of style to suspense, it is, and immediately braid the viewer. Vincenzo did not make a special secret of what is happening with the main character, mysticism. Lisa understands perfectly well that she is an instrument of certain forces, but what is this force? Here comes a series of Natalie’s signature flirtations with time paradox and occult moods. And I have to say this "pulls" the film, after computerization in the spirit of "Cube", Gothic mysticism with a claim to distortion of reality comes with a hurrah.
The atmosphere through the work of the operator, and the final girl's acting - Abigail Braslin, plus everything in the cast is a patented antagonist Stephen McHatty, who can inspire a suspense without straining, for a type. It does not matter that following the logic of things to the denouement comes quickly enough, I repeat. Natalie played visual/detective accentuation with mysticism, and he succeeded. The story of the strange house where the girl began to “reach” fits into the concept of other directorial works, with which I Vincenzo and congratulate.
A fairy tale about a completely typical and ordinary family, gradually draining their lives in household worries and quarrels. But only young Lisonka has long realized that they live the same day is not the first time. . .
A mystical horror film paying homage to Groundhog Day, adding time jumps to this cocktail. While the main character quotes “The Smiths”, in her room hang posters “The Cure” and “Joy Division”, which a priori makes nostalgic to the era of the 80s.
Write about the plot twists or specific things will be a direct spoiler, so briefly. The film has a great idea and concept, which is gradually revealed by the end, interfering with several interesting ideas at once. The picture is a roller coaster, repeatedly making unexpected turns, which could well be the final finale, but the director hangs a sobering slap in the face and continues the story in a new way, allowing you to solve the mysteries together with Lisa.
The only thing you can blame the film for is the implementation, which in places limps, because of such a cool idea you could create an absolute candy, but apparently lacked experience.
Moral: if your every new day is the same as the previous one, then perhaps you just absorbed routine and household - it's time for a vacation.
As a result, an interesting mystical horror movie with unexpected plot twists.
The girl Lisa wakes up in the so-called “Groundhog Day”: the events of one day are repeated over and over, but Lisa notices some differences. For example, one day her mother says one thing, and the next day she says something completely different. The memory of the family is erased every time. Only Lisa remembers everything. The girl tries to contact another girl, Olivia, who she dreams of at night. But what a surprise Lisa was when contact was made!
Limb is the state or place of stay of souls not in Paradise, which is not hell or purgatory. Getting out of the limb supposedly can only solve the puzzle – understanding what keeps the soul inside. That is, the limbo may serve as an explanation for the phenomenon of “Groundhog Day”: those caught in such a time loop may be in limbo – at the crossroads between heaven and hell. You look at these movies differently, don’t you? If in our reality the phenomenon of “Groundhog Day” is impossible, then in the interworld it can quite exist. Moreover, when a person dies, there is an injection into the body of a chemical that causes severe hallucinations.
The light at the end of the tunnel is a popular representation of how we feel about the transition to another world. But as scientists have proved, the experience of people who survived clinical death is much more diverse. Researchers believe that it is quite possible to collect objective scientific data about the potentially final moments of life. Over four years, they analyzed more than 2,000 patients who had experienced cardiac arrest, or formal clinical death. Researchers interviewed 101 people.
Eyewitness accounts were more like dreams or hallucinations, which scientists divided into seven main scenarios: fear, images of animals and plants, bright light, violence and persecution, strong déjà vu, faces of family members, memories of real events that occurred after a cardiac arrest. Most of these scenarios do not correspond to what is commonly called a “death experience”.
The mental experiences of patients range from eerie to benevolent. Some patients report feelings of overwhelming terror or persecution. “I had to go through a burning ceremony,” one participant recalled. There were four people with me, and if any of them were lying, they had to die. I have seen people in coffins buried upright.” Another person recalls being “drawn deep under the water,” while another patient recounts that “I was told I was going to die and the quickest way to do it was to say the last short word I don’t remember.”
However, other respondents say quite opposite feelings. 22% recall “a sense of peace and tranquility.” Some have seen living things: “Everything is around, in plants, but not flowers” or “lions and tigers.” Others bathed in bright lights or reunited with family. Some had a strong sense of deja vu: "I felt like I knew exactly what people were going to do now and they were really doing it." Exacerbated feelings, a distorted view of time and a sense of separation from one’s own body are common memories of patients who have survived clinical death.
What if during clinical death people experience experiences that are the limbo?
Unfortunately, the idea of the limb in the film is presented in some fantastic, fabulous, if not childish form. I like more brutal and tough movies where it is scary to turn a corner, but this is not a movie. “Limb” is a pleasant film about ghosts for the whole family.

"Limb" or "Ghost." It would be nice to know what a limbo is before viewing. Then everything is clearer.
The director seems to have shot a couple of cult low-budget horror films. But I haven't seen them. In this horror film, in addition to the Gothic style, I noticed a lot of secondary, but diligent copying of beaten modern plots gives some tension.
The film is shot in a fashionable style about ghosts, and the author squeezes another plot out of a popular topic, having managed to enter the not yet closed gate, which will allow you to be in the top 10, say, films in a narrowly directed genre.
You can see that the film was shot in Canada, so there is no big budget and that explains a lot. Special effects are done in Photoshop or very close to this program. The butterfly in the opening credits is the same footwear that is in any low-profile video program, and the beginning was very upset. Frequently you can see a cleaned up picture, filters and linings throughout the film are frustrating and give the feeling of a computer game or something like that, where the natural ones are only the voices of the main characters. Sound effects, here they are at the height and directly kill, but resemble the finished sounds of standard sound programs. All this gives the effect of a very artificial, inanimate film, but perhaps the director of this atmosphere and sought. The feeling that the film is made in one program on a laptop, and in the second program the sound is reduced, and the standard filters do not leave the entire film. Again, the fog is very thick. The house of the main character seems to be drawn for a contest on the "headhunter".
Among the pluses is the great and terrible McHatty as the antihero. But the skull in his eyes seems to be taken from Google search.
The result is a very diligent film, assembled from several fashionable now plots, but leaving a long feeling of secondary, but having its own atmosphere. Such a film is in the style of a diligent teenager, who is not banal because he writes and shoots it as for the first time. But, I'm sorry, when the heroine finds the news of missing girls again, then no one will convince me that this is evil, and that such perturbations of the plot should already be used only in post-modern comedies. The pathos of the finale is off the scale, and the obligatory hook, proving that not everything is, like, over, is all also templates that cause a normal moviegoer a toothache.
To begin with, let this be my only subjective opinion: for me, really worthwhile horror movies/thrillers are not a stupid display of bloody mush, dismemberment and torn body parts, which, apart from disgust, actually carries no meaning. I am interested in the very atmosphere of the film, which escalates and carries alarming fear, and there may not be bloody scenes in it at all. That’s what “The Astral,” “The Conjuring,” and “The Woman in Black” are for me. And Limb is no exception to this either.
To be honest, I first saw him as the same age as the main character, so her experiences and feelings are quite close to me. And if you look at the opening scenes, when the story of the recurring day is not yet clear, you can see that the film, in fact, shows the normal routine of the average family on a cloudy day: the mother is busy with homework, the father is fixing the car, the younger brother is playing Pacman, and Lisa looks at it and realizes that this is not how to live. The routine of ordinary life, however, is quickly replaced by a very different, frightening secret about the past of a house covered in darkness. In the episodes of searching for Lisa, there was not a single scene that did not impress me, although there was again nothing supernatural and was not special: ghosts looked like ordinary people, and only the reflection of the skull in the eye let me know who they were.
But Limb is not only about ghosts forced to live the same day for almost thirty years, it is also about a violent maniac. And even though the scene with the list of his victims and reminds of “Sweet bones”, the image still turned out to be memorable: the actor tried very hard to enter the role of this thin as a skeleton and not parting with a cigarette and a scarf monster.
Of course, the denouement of the film seems a little attracted and again sweet, but still does not spoil the main picture. And although many fans of other kinds of horrors call this film unsuccessful, weak and empty, for me it took an honorable place in my favorite collection of mysticism.

So the typical American family is a loving mother, a caring father, Robbie’s youngest son, a video game addict, and his amiably grumpy older sister, Lisa. It would seem that something special and interesting is happening here? Once she wakes up, Lisa realizes that the same way her morning started yesterday, and she repeats the previous one every day. Desperate, she does not really try to convince her parents, realizing that they simply do not believe her and do not remember anything the next day. At the same time, all family members do not have the opportunity to leave the house, which is shrouded in impenetrable fog. The further into the forest, the thicker the wilderness! Unexpectedly, resigned to the constantly recurring events, Lisa notices that something is happening inside the walls of the house and she began to be haunted by a female voice calling for help. Curiosity leads her to a small locked door in the basement. After a while, a frightening stranger knocks at the house, posing as an employee of the telephone company, he warns Lisa to ignore the voices, and also not try to contact the living. Tadaaam! What a twist! A dead family stuck in a house and forced to live a groundhog day. Hence begins the unravelling of this time loop, revealing to us the terrible secrets of past years.
The film is very reminiscent of the mix from such films as “The Truman Show”, “Groundhog Day”, “Pretty Bones” and “Others”, but nevertheless this does not make the plot itself bad, rather unpredictable, for which the writer should be praised. Why not take some good movies and make one good? The plot develops dynamically, screen time is too small to further develop the plot, give more scenes to secondary characters and especially the so-called villain of the film, tell more stories of those voices from the walls. (King would approve). I didn't like the idea of sharing bodies with other victims when Lisa touches things belonging to them. Quite unusual. Apparently, the creators decided that the more confusing the story, the better. The picture on the screen is completely pleasing to the eye, it is not something gloomy, here you will not see blood, massacre and obvious violence. The scene with the corpses at the table in the middle of the film and Lisa's emotions at that moment are so beautifully recreated and presented to the viewer that it really touched and became the most memorable, bravo director!
Let's move on to the actors. I liked Abigail Breslin’s game – the teenager’s curiosity, rebellious and stubborn character, courage and determination, accompanied by lively emotions. It is impossible not to note the excellent play of Stephen McHatty in the role of Edgar Mullens - the embodiment of a villainous image, one of its kind inspiring fear.
I wouldn’t call “Limb” horror, it’s more of a thriller-drama with elements of a detective. At the same time, the excellent music that accompanies us throughout the film makes goosebumps run on the skin and sometimes even flinch.
As I glimpsed the reviews, I noticed that many did not understand the ending of the film. Let us clarify what this limb is. “Limb” (Latin limbus – border, edge) – in Catholicism, the place of stay of souls who did not fall into paradise, that is, the antonym of purgatory. To get to heaven, where the Johnson family can enter a new tomorrow, they needed to wake up and remember what happened to them on April 23, 1985, thereby unraveling the time loop that the brave Lisa contributed.
I cannot say that the film is a masterpiece, it certainly has errors, but it definitely deserves the attention of the viewer.

Vincenzo Natalie, the creator of “Cuba” and the series “Hannibal” again twists another concept, mixing in one bottle “Other” and “Groundhog Day”. Natalie became famous for another mini-weird masterpiece as "The Chimera", and the trace of this painting is also present here. On the way out, we get a beautiful mystical neo-Gothic, of which now oh how few, with a share of romanticism. It would seem that the topic of “twilight zones and parallel worlds” is already beaten, but Natalie somehow beautifully presents all this, managing to put a 16-year-old girl on the main role. This is not quite a horror, this is an old forgotten by many mysticism in its pure form, and if you call the film a horror, then perhaps recently this is the only horror with “brains”. The film will not make a very strong impression on you, but the picture, music + “easy puzzle” will not let you get bored.
Lisa (Abigail Breslin) and her family are stuck in the same day, which is replayed, and most importantly, she clearly understands this, but continues to do the same things every day. And, as her younger brother rightly puts it, they’re “playing the same level of play over and over again,” where nothing new happens. At some point, the director’s allegory is traced to the lifestyle of many millions of people living the same scenario and pattern every day.
At first, this is how it appears to the viewer during the incomprehensible wanderings of the main character around the house, but after a short set-up, events begin to fill with new colors and the film still gives the very intrigue about which it continues its development. The director Vincenzo Natalie, who earned recognition among film fans, as the plot progresses, spreads more and more clues, turning “Limb” into some mystical detective in which the main character will search for the truth.
And despite the fact that the answer to the main mystery of the film becomes clear in the middle, and the director does not pay special attention to some supernatural mystery, the intrigue does not die and is present until the end of the viewing. With an echo to its better-known counterpart in The Others and a game of ghosts, Limb doesn’t make the game a major final revelation. In it, this mystery becomes clear and understandable initially, but the notorious question why torments until the end of the viewing, even though there is no expectation of something special in the end.
In the conditions of cyclical nature of what is happening and confinement within one house, the picture, despite its tightness, still develops and holds the audience interest, which not every director is able to support. For which Vincenzo Natalie, unconditional, plus. But Abigail Breslin also plays a special role in this performance, as she is in the frame almost throughout the film, and her excellent performance is just as important for keeping the audience’s attention as the director’s moves and script twists.
Not presented at the time in the wide box office, the picture, wandering among the mystical thriller and horror detective, intrigues during its viewing and watch until the very end it is interesting, even though closer to the middle of the denouement seems obvious. Having found its viewer after the release on the media, although without especially thrills, but in places “Limb” can even scare, and from a visual and stylistic point of view, it looks like similar “friendly” horrors of modernity, although it can be called a full-fledged horror with a great stretch.
An ordinary American family lives in a cozy house on the outskirts of an ordinary suburb. Life goes its leisurely measured rhythm and only for Lisa every new day is like the previous day. The events of one particular day are in a vicious circle, from which it is impossible to escape. And a terrible secret lies in the house, and only Lisa is destined to solve it.
Canadian director and screenwriter Vincenzo Natalie, who once placed the audience in the “Cube” and told the phantasmagoric story of “Chimera”, in 2013 decided to celebrate Groundhog Day on a large scale, immersed the audience in his latest film work in Limb – the place of restless souls, not hell at all, not heaven and, alas, not purgatory. Such a limb for the main character of the film, the underage girl Lisa, becomes her home, shelter and shelter, shrouded almost constantly, from morning to night, a thick and dense blanket of whitish mist, from which all evil spirits, monsters and sinister dead seem and climb. However, the audience should not wait for their appearance and the accompanying bloody bath. Partly inspired by Bergman's "Persona", "Limb", permanently kept in the style of neo-Gothic, is more covered with mysticism and esoteric drama than a horror film.
“Limb” is a dark and sinister story of restless and restless souls, the story of the growing up of an individual, the personal formation and transformation of a girl into a woman in conditions close to extreme, and more in terms of psychophysiological than exclusively physical. Vincenzo Natalie skillfully throws a mosaic of metaphors and symbols around the film, strung on the thread of thoughtful and exquisitely embodied plot intrigue parable intonation and without breaking the leisurely, hypnotic narrative with unnecessary and unnecessary digressions that weigh down the timing. The film from beginning to end is an atmospheric work, sustained in the best traditions of modern neo-Gothic and, although it seems that the film plays on the artistic field of the notorious “Spell” and “Astral”, it is much closer to the radical author’s Colombian horror “Wake up and die” in 2011 than to the horror samples from James Wan. Limb is the Kingdom of Hell of universal repetition and these refrains in the picture look not so much as a punishment, but as a kind of test for the main characters and, in particular, Lisa.
However, “Limb” can be interpreted as a special otherworldly vision, the very memorable “third eye”, which in fact has Lisa. Literally from the first shots of the all-seeing eye with a skull inside, stylishly shot by cameraman John Joffin, Vincenzo Natalie sets the tone for many interpretations of the essence of the film, in which everything that happens is ambiguous and ephemeral, but not perversely sophisticated. Vincenzo Natalie returned to the artistic minimalism and asceticism of his previous works, playing in “Limba” in general, repeatedly tested stamps and archetypes of the genre, returning horror to the origins of the narratives at the campfire and eternal urban legends, diluting the story of ghosts with family drama and philosophical drama.
This film left mixed impressions. At some point, the thought even flashed – “Am I not watching Sci-Fi channel”, rich in various consumer goods with a low rating?
"Home is like a death trap." Approximately so you can briefly tell the viewer about what he will face, including “Limb”.
Lisa Johnson (Abigail Breslin) seems to be going through the same thing day in and day out: waking up, talking to her brother, bickering with her mother—all of these conversations, questions and answers she’s already heard. At some point, Lisa realizes she's wandering around in circles, living one day. Her family is also mired in the “groundhog bottom”, but does not know it.
Trying to understand what is happening, the heroine will face the horror of the house in which she lives with her relatives and will try to find a way out of the vicious circle, on which you can wander forever.
I don’t think anyone would mind telling me that Limb is the same Groundhog Day that was put in a mystical shell. And this is “Repeat reality” – another rather gray project, telling about the same day in the lives of the heroes, this is “Other” with Nicole Kidman, and “Sixth Sense” with Bruce Willis.
That’s only if the last two films from the list can be attributed to extremely good and successful tapes, then “Limb”, rather similar to “Repeat reality” – like the idea is good, but the performance does not reach the top five with a plus.
At times, the plot turns into a very good profile - a story with the relocation of the soul of a maniac, the search for truth from the grains of evidence found in the sinister dungeons of the house, attempts to get rid of dead-chained embraces - in principle, give pleasure. Another thing is that sometimes it becomes unclear who Lisa really is, why in the mirror image we see the face of another girl, where other families come from and how Lisa manages to see the past. Or the future? Or that. What's going on now? In general, these aspects leave a slight sense of their own stupidity, because they seem to be trying to explain to you, but whether you are stupid and hopeless, or the explainer speaks a language completely unfamiliar and inaccessible.
And yes, here's what. I wouldn’t call Limb a horror movie. This is more of a mysticism, slightly diluted with elements of a thriller and a detective. There are almost no scary moments here. At least the chilling soul gnashes doors, wild spirits or what else - it's not about "Limb."
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been so disappointed with thrillers or horror movies. Yes, of course, there were stupid horror films and thrillers that were not enough – a little bit to be good or at least not bad, but after watching the movie “Limb” I experienced a sense of disappointment that I did not experience for a long time, at least 2 – 3 years for sure. But more details.
Lisa and her family are constantly living the same day – the same conversations, business, breakfast, lunch and dinner, an evening TV show, etc. It seems that the parents don’t even notice it, but Lisa is already used to it. But one day, hearing her name from a mysterious girl, her life changes, and she not only learns the terrible truth, but also understands that she is in serious danger.
While watching the film, there was a feeling that it was shot by either a beginner or even a debutant, but for no reason could not guess that he keeps the name Vincenzo Natalie. But what was it like to know that Natalie was the director of the great movie The Cube! I expected more from the film - more thriller, more fear and atmosphere, with minimal expenditure of screeners, but it turned out the opposite, turning into a terribly boring, boring and raw either thriller or mysticism. I confess that I watched this movie at night and not only that I was not afraid, so I also fell asleep in the middle! I did not start watching it again - rewinded and looked to the end, but even when watching the day, the constant desire to turn off and see something normal did not leave me. It’s not hard to guess that the writer is a newcomer, Brian King, who managed an excellent idea, but its implementation was a real nightmare. The script is weak, only two of the characters are clearly spelled out - the main character and the main villain, the development of the plot also leaves much to be desired - the heroine for no reason finds either a photo album, then a mysterious door, which is already essentially strange, because the heroine did not find any clues, while she was able to find a photo album? A mystery. It is obvious that King, before writing the script, watched many films, including “Sylent Hill” (from it the atmosphere and the constant fog are taken away) and “Others” (the main idea is taken), so that the screenwriter did not have much to dream about, as well as turn his creation into a horror film, which he is not at all – you can only be scared here by stupid screamers and that’s all. The cameraman John Joffins works magnificently, giving the film mystery and mystery with a dark color scheme, which makes you feel at least some atmosphere of a thriller. The music of Alex Haskin is not bad, although the “explosion” at a certain point is not enough to give the film a greater emotionality and atmosphere.
A good game is shown by actors, in particular Abigail Breslin, who perfectly performs her role, feeding her with real, genuine feelings, for which she wants to thank, since it is on her that the entire film is built, except for Stephen McHatty, who qualitatively performed the role of a villain. Of course, there are still actors in the film, but they are given very little time and it is difficult to evaluate their play because most of them repeat the same thing, and only a little – they manage to improvise and show a decent game.
Total:
I don’t know how to call Limb a horror movie. If we talk about a thriller, then OK, there is something in the film, but from horror there is only a killer and nothing more. From such an idea, you can come up with a high-quality film, but the screenwriter, having watched Silent Hill and The Others, decided not to invent something himself, but simply borrow from the films the components of his project. It is a pity that Vincenzo Natalie also bathed in this swamp, remembering his success, it is difficult to look at how such a misunderstanding could be removed by such a person. I was dissatisfied and disappointed with the film because of the lack of a thriller, the depth of the idea and some mystery of the film, which is not there at all, a little correct the film quality work of the operator and the actors, and there is absolutely nothing more to add. It is up to you to watch or not to watch the film, but if you want to watch a real, chilling thriller and plunge into its atmosphere, then Limb is definitely not for you.
Thank you for listening!
In search of a “cosmic” horror movie or a really grandiose “horror story”, I increasingly stumble upon not bad mystical thrillers, but alas only with minor horror elements. This kind of movie is out of the box of the creepy stuff I’m looking for, but that doesn’t make it bad or bad. Cinematic work from Vincenzo Natalie , just one of those thrillers that are interesting to watch and analyze, while seeing an expressive analogy with other equally worthy paintings.
"Groundhog Day" in "The Others", "The Sixth Sense" in "Sweet Bones" - what other aphorisms were not thrown into such, at first glance, a vinigrete plot about the Johnson family, which is in prison between two worlds. The main character Liza is too ingenious and inquisitive to follow the laws of limbo and listen to “bumps” from the master of phone repair. She scouts this mysterious kaleidoscope of events and learns what kind of girl she is constantly looking for contact with her from another reality.
After watching, the film introduces to the very silent torpor experienced by the heroine of Ingmar Bergman's "Persons" Elizabeth Vogler - one of the sources of inspiration of the director (even a parallel of names is visible), or rather in the state when the words are superfluous and do not describe all those feelings with the flights of thoughts that arose when watching. Cliche-like tricks, which, like crabs crawl from film to film, here look quite simple and unobtrusive, albeit cheap, but bribe interest in what is happening due to the finding of a family in the so-called first circle of hell. The cast pleased with the sinister and frightening image of the demon, which the actor vehemently passed on the actor Stephen McHatty and neatly with the standard role of the why-girl, played by Abigail Breslin.
Verdicting the film "Haunter", I want to note the pretension, not the triviality of the plot, which in principle, by the end will be prophetic, but the fascinating and appetizing theme of déjà vu, will not make you pass by this exciting mystical thriller.
It is impossible to miss another work from the director of a truly brilliant film “Cube”!
The film caught my attention from the very first shot. Gray tones, fading and abundant, impenetrable fog outside the window already pumped mystics and promised something extraordinary. The narrative unfolds slowly, slowly, but the lack of dynamics does not dispose to boredom. In this story, there are mysteries at every step, one after one, and even a glimpse of what is really happening and who is behind it is impossible. This hour and a half passed for me as one moment, during which I was happy to follow the unravelling of an extremely difficult tangle. And the ending was satisfied – I wanted for this sad story of a bright end.
I can’t say that the acting in the film impressed me or put a new name on my list of favorite actors. She's not brilliant, but she's decent. I have some complaints about the lead actor Abigail Breslin. It seems to me that the perplexed look is a kind of scourge of all young actors. Not knowing how to cope with the role and not being sure what kind of emotion their character experiences in a particular scene, they leave at the expense of bewilderment. Who definitely pleased, is Stephen McHatty, he has the perfect appearance to catch up creepy.
A very good mystical detective, I will definitely add to my collection.

I heard about Limb a few months ago, but there was still not enough time to watch it. And now, during the long-awaited New Year holidays, I finally got acquainted with this picture. First of all, I would like to note that the plot is unusual and represents an original author’s idea. It all begins when the main character, a teenage girl, discovers that the usual day of her family repeats over and over again. However, they are unable to leave their home due to fog and a broken car, which for some reason can not be repaired. But believe me, the discovery of the main character is not the most terrible, soon something frightening will open, completely turning the viewer’s impression of the film. This is where the fun begins!
Pros
It should be emphasized the atmosphericity of the picture – the gloomy tones correspond to the general mood of the characters of the film, the fog that enveloped the entire area also indicates the inevitability of everything that is happening, the constant repetition of individual episodes and techniques in the work of the operator also played a certain role. I liked the play of the main character, very sincerely and somehow without play, which is very important. There were a few frightening moments, although the horror film can be attributed with a stretch. Most likely, this is a mystical drama with elements of horror.
Cons of
The downsides aren’t really much, and other viewers could argue against them. In my opinion, there is some understatement, at times and at the end. At the end, I want to see something bigger and brighter. There was not enough drive in some scenes in terms of frightening moments - they would not be superfluous.
General conclusion
The movie "Limb" is definitely worth watching. An unusual plot - in my opinion, a mixture of "Groundhog Day" and "Dear Bones", although with elements of novelty. The film makes you think about good and evil, the causes of evil, that you need to take care of yourself and your loved ones.

The sweetest thriller/horror I've ever seen. He is not very stuffed with events or horror stories, so he can be attributed to some sluggish action, but still does not get bored. In the end, I even wept as it ended, but I did not expect another ending to this film. They showed both family relationships and the young girl’s attempts to understand what is happening, although in fact she is an ordinary teenager who wants to live for herself and herself. I don’t think this movie will be seen again, but the impressions of the first time will last for a long time.

In the next review, I will not break stereotypes and start with the plot. It turned out to be quite interesting and even a little confusing and mysterious. At the beginning of the film, we are presented with an ordinary, seemingly family that has its own life and its own worries. But immediately we notice that some strange, mystical phenomenon in the form of an impenetrable fog surrounds their cozy, cute house. In addition, and most likely because of this fog, the family is stuck in a time loop, they live the same day every day. And the strangest thing is that only the daughter of the family knows about it. Trying to uncover the mystery of strange events, the girl gradually gets involved in the whirlwind of exciting and chilling incidents that occurred in this house a long time ago, putting not only her life, but the lives of all her relatives, in great danger. As you can see, from the small part that I described, the plot is very interesting, because it contains many questions and one big mystery that we have to solve together with Lizzie and her family.
For the first time, I think I’m completely satisfied with the originality of the film, even though it’s not original. That is, in the film “Limb” almost nothing original, and even more, it mixes a lot of familiar plots and tricks. But the way Vincenzo Natalie managed to put it together is great! It seems, when watching, you learn and remember a bunch of films, viewed earlier, but still it is not a bit distracting and gives the film the appearance of an assortment of favorite ingredients surprise inside. But let’s put everything on the shelves to understand what we have to deal with.
So, the beginning of the film immediately reminded me of one of my favorite mystical thrillers “Others” starring Nicole Kidman. And I was reminded of it by an old but well-groomed house in the middle of an impenetrable fog and a strange family in it. If you run ahead a bit, then Limb (2013) uses another turn of events taken from the same “Others”. But I won’t go into any more specifics because it could “harm” those who are going to see this movie. Following the storyline, we see a pronounced parallel with the film “Groundhog Day”, and not only with it, but with all the movies about the hero experiencing the same day several times (and there are many). Towards the end of the film, we learn in the events taking place on the screen several more popular films at the time - "The Shining", "The Amityville Horror" ... and another mystical, psychological thriller, the name of which I, unfortunately, did not remember so accurately (like "Dark Angles", but I may be mistaken):
A clear originality can be seen in the title of the film. I don't know how the translators came up with the idea of translating the original title of the film that way, but they're good. The short but intriguing word “Limb” on the poster is the first thing I noticed when I first encountered this film. I wondered what the word meant to get a little more accurate about the movie. As it turned out, this religious term and according to legend, “limb” is like a place where the souls of dead people who did not go to heaven or hell fall. But the limbo is not purgatory at all, but rather an uncharted waiting place for rejected souls. I love the details, so that’s another reason why I loved Limb (2013).
Through the efforts of Vincenzo Natalie, a group of operators and sound operators, the cast and everyone who took part in the creation of this film, it turned out to be very spectacular. First, a chilling mix of mystical, engrossing atmospheres (a viscous, all-consuming fog and a creaky, mystery-filled house) with sharp, frightening moments (ghost appearances, etc.) and dynamic twists of events... in my opinion, this is the most important thing that should be in horror. Secondly, everything that happens on the screen is thought out and often you have to reason logically in order to compare all the facts and come to the only correct conclusion about everything that happens before the main mystery is revealed on the screen. Thirdly, individual episodes in which the creators of special effects and editing took part deserve special praise. What is the episode with fast-forwarding time, in which in a matter of seconds people turned into skeletons, and then in general to dust - great!
As for the cast, I didn’t even doubt it. Almost all actors and actresses I already know for other successful roles in horror films and TV series. Even more so in popular American TV series. I would like to talk about each person separately, but I do not want to write a lot (and so, in my opinion, it is too much:)), so I will say a few words only about the brightest. Abigail Breslin is a young talent of the American film industry. At the age of 17, she starred in very good films (Welcome to Zombieland, Taste of Life and Alarming Challenge) and in an incredible number of TV series. In Limb, she plays the lead role, the girl Lizzie, who tries to unravel the mystery (or curses?) hanging over her family. And let me tell you, she’s just brilliant... her cute, angelic face and already childish figure make you admire her every second of being on the screen. In addition to this, we add professional artistry and multifaceted emotionality... it seems to me that even Stanislavsky would not be able to tell her “I do not believe!”: And, Peter Outerbridge, also a very famous actor, not so long ago starred in the film “Silent Hill 2”, as well as “Slevin’s Lucky Number” and “Saw 6”, and in a huge number of my favorite TV series: “The Edge”, “24 Hours”, “Thought Reader”, “Shelter”. In this film, it was especially nice to watch him, as he just magically played the role of the father. In each episode, he showed a sea of opposing feelings ... somewhere love and care, somewhere blind rage and vice, and closer to the final scene complete repentance. Everything was so sincere that even I got a lump in my throat as I watched his self-torture. Bravo!
As you can see, for me personally, the film is completely made up of pluses and I could not find any serious flaws. Although I tried to do that: So to me, Limb (2013) is almost perfect, so I strongly advise everyone, everyone, everyone to watch it as soon as possible, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

How would you feel if you lived one day at a time? Would you eat the same food, listen to the same lectures, wash the same things? I'd be smart.
But the main character Lizzie not only did not move her mind, but also got used to her hopeless situation, plugging her ears with a player.
But that all changed when Lizzie began to sense the presence of something foreign inside her home. Then she gets involved in a tangle of terrible, I would even say terrible, secrets that she will not only solve, but also eliminate.
The movie “Limb” is not a horror movie, which boredom you have to watch while reading Twitter or scrolling Instagram. It, unlike most modern horror films, has a plot, mystery, good video sequence, pleasant acting of actors and soundtrack. This is not a movie with terrible skewed muzzles popping up with a sharp roar, it is something psychological (Uncle King would be proud).
The film makes you feel excitement, experience, fear and hopelessness.
If you are waiting for meat like in Jigsaw or scrimmers like in the Astral, you can safely pass by. But if you love mysticism, please, this is what you need.
The ending is ambiguous, alas and ah! On the one hand, it is a logical conclusion, all is well, on the other... Well, it's like licking a drop of tar after a delicious delicious dessert. Not so bad, but the impression is already spoiled.
In general, this is a classic mysticism with a beautiful shooting, an exciting plot and good actors.

Expectations regarding the quality of the film "Limb" before viewing were very low, and all the more pleasant that after a few minutes the plot captured and attracted my attention. The film stands out against the general background of similar paintings by an unusual, original script, intriguing plot development, good directing and acting. In general, there was a successful mixing of genres of mysticism, detective thriller, and some episodes with unexpected appearances of figures and loud movement of objects were quite in the spirit of modern horror films (although this film refers to the latter genre to a lesser extent).
The authors manage to interest the viewer with a number of intrigues: where were the characters of the picture? How did they get there? Who's to blame? How to get the heroes out of this situation? To solve each puzzle, the film crew brings us smoothly, gradually, not forgetting to keep the tension and internal intensity of the unfolding events. Despite the twisted plot, which contained both time travel and the transfer of souls, the creators of the picture did not lose the thread of the narrative, as a result of which they managed to bring their creation to a logical, clear and understandable finale. Almost all of the screen time events unfold in the walls of the mansion, and nevertheless the film crew perfectly managed to find the edge in which the space is simultaneously closed, and at the same time the events are very dynamic and intriguing.
The acting also caused exceptionally positive emotions. The actors managed to convey the characters of their heroes, and most importantly make them empathize with their fates. I would especially like to mention the play of Stephen McHatty, who turned out to be a very charismatic, bright, memorable character. Well, Abigail Breslin coped with the main role. It is evident that the actress does not stop in her creative development, regularly tries new images and quite successfully transforms into a new character. The role in Limba is another confirmation of this.
High-quality camera work and sound accompaniment perfectly convey the tense, dramatic, sinister atmosphere of hopelessness and inevitability of the incident, in which the main character and her family fell.
Perhaps the ending could have turned out brighter, more spectacular and slightly less protracted, but the presented version does not spoil the positive impression. The film “Limb” will appeal to fans of intricate mystical thrillers.
Lisa’s family is an ordinary family. They live in a small house and don’t complain about anything. But only Lisa realizes that something strange is happening to them – one day is repeated over and over again, and it seems impossible to get out of this vicious circle. Lisa could accept this life, and come to terms with what is happening, but suddenly finds that at night a strange voice calls her, and in the basement you hear some sounds, and this pushes her to understand everything and find the cause of the current situation.
From the very beginning, the film is intriguing - the family really got into a kind of inexplicable cycle. Lisa’s attitude and her remarks suggest that events are not new to her, and the greater the desire to know the reason for this. Only later, when Lisa encounters supernatural things, everyone will understand that the story is not trivial and not ripped off from a million identical films. Although I will not argue, the reference to "Other" and "Sixth Sense" seems to be visible to the naked eye, however, the essence of this film is not in this.
I’ll probably praise the first part of the film with full confidence (around the middle), the second, oddly enough, came out much weaker. Frightening moments, of course, are not particularly distinguished, and there were not as many of them as I would like, but in general they are performed qualitatively, although the emphasis is again on loud sounds in the middle of silence and a sudden appearance. It is worth noting, however, that even this was just an addition to the main curious moments, such as a secret door, behind which lies something that passion as you want to know.
The atmosphere of the film is gloomy, as befits the genre, but this is not one hundred percent horrors, especially in the finale. The ending generally slides into a fairy tale, which, in general, does not spoil the impression much. To be honest, first of all, I was interested in a very confusing story and a lot of different unexpected moves, which is why watching the film was both interesting and exciting. The only drawback I can name is actress Abigail Breslin, who, in my opinion, sometimes overplayed too much.
Overall, I liked the tape. Only, of course, not as horrors, but as an amusing mystical thriller - did not scare, but made me scratch my head a little , for which I thank him.

The film was directed by Vincenzo Natalie. In his list not without famous works, such as: “Hannibal”, “Cube”, “Chimera”, etc.
After reading the abstract, I became very interested in the film, thinking “Something new.”
In a nutshell about the plot: A family of four is stuck in the house and lives from day to day the same, but only Lisa guesses.
It turns out a kind of "Groundhog Day." Since the beginning of the film, the intrigue is more and more, I wonder what will happen next? A question arises. Who doesn't let them out? What keeps them there?
After the intrigue begins to subside and the film becomes boring and boring.
Throughout the film, Lisa tries to unravel the mystery of this house and bring her parents back to reality. No one is listening to her, of course.
Acting-- Here everyone coped quite well, especially well played the role of the main character of this picture.
Conclusion:
To sum up this film, I want to say this: They were able to come up with it, but failed to implement it.
It’s not a bad movie, but I wouldn’t call it a horror movie, and there’s not much mysticism. It's more of a detective.
Do you like boring and boring detectives with a secret that will not be fully disclosed? Then you'll like this picture. If your goal is to experience fear and get adrenaline, this film is unlikely to appeal to you.
Of course, I want to say that this is just my opinion and it may not coincide with yours.
For the idea and acting I put this film:
I love Natalie, at least for the fact that he made almost the only horror movie that touched my nerve. I respect Natalie, at least, for the fact that each of his projects is an experiment, although not always successful, but indisputably original. “Limb” passed through cinemas and trackers almost without a trace, although the movie is much more curious than all the recently released mystical thrillers combined.
Obvious parallels can be drawn with the first season of American Horror Story and Amenabar’s classic horror film Others. The viewer has already guessed who the main character is, and Natalie understands that he can not deceive anyone, so mixes different tricks of recent years, not particularly fixated on any. To some, this approach will seem superficial (they say, a gallop through Europe, and what I want to say is unclear), but citation is one of the key features of our time, and Natalie demonstrated this as best as possible. "Limb" is like a social media post that has been retweeted so many times that it has become flesh of its own. A collage of laiced records, taking shape if you look from afar with a little squint.
Surprising thing: the story seems predictable, but from the screen can not take off. The main character makes one stupid mistake after another, but she does not want to smash her head against the wall. The action develops rapidly (albeit somewhat confusing), and what is really nice is that it is not just a sequence of events and boom moments, but an escalation of emotions culminating in spiritual liberation. Abigail Breslin is natural and expressive, and even if she does not know what to do with eternity, her hand is stretching to add her as friends. The film captivates - if not the plot, so the pitch - and looks without sagging from beginning to end (glory to the Lumiere brothers, editing scissors on the set were present).
Communicating with the viewer in a language he knows, Natalie manages to ask a few interesting questions along the way, although she prefers not to answer them. How do you distinguish life from death when every day is the same? How can you not be afraid even if you are already dead? How do you get out of limbo if you don’t have a second life? Lisa's torment was set to repeat, and it seemed that the upper force was the playlist of her suffering, but even in this situation, you can remain master of your fate. How to break the vicious circle and what is the cost of spiritual purification is the theme of the film, relevant to both the dead and the living.

Limb from the very first minutes captures the attention of the viewer, makes you distract from extraneous matters, such as picking a fork in a plate or looking at the pattern of wallpaper. The scene is an old house with a dark past. The story revolves around a girl who wakes up on the same day. Of course, her family doesn’t notice anything like that. There is no point in talking about the plot, because the impression of the film is built due to unexpected turns. Sometimes I want to say, “I don’t understand what’s going on.” But for some reason, it seemed less and less predictable. This is not important though.
Anti-canon film scares immediately, not unfolding until the end of the meaning. It bribed. Usually forty minutes tells the story of the move, happy faces, new life of characters, etc. I also liked the atmosphere, dark, mysterious. Scared mainly by screamers, unexpected sounds and rhinos reflected in various surfaces. And that's a plus because I was scared when I looked. Suitable for Astral lovers. I would like to note that it was not boring because of the repeated days.
Either I have already got used to the bugag by the end, or indeed the film itself pumped up, but the finale seemed not so terrible, I wanted something explosive, crazy, but the beginning of fear exceeded the denouement.
In general, the film is quite good, not even for once, but for two.
For the atmosphere, the screamers, Abigail Breslin, the old house, sounds, intrigue and mini travel in time.

Every day the same thing, blood will freeze in your skin. You will no longer have a halo on your head, and you will find yourself in a terrible chastisement.
I saw this movie the other day. Honestly, some seasoned critics say the film isn't a bit scary. I disagree with them! There are sharp and unexpected moments in the film. “Limb” reminded me of the movie “Groundhog Day”, where all the days were repeated as one day.
I really liked the acting. I want to highlight Abigail Breslin and Peter DaCuna because I liked their performance the most. But it is also impossible not to mention Peter Outerbridge, Michel Nolden and Stephen McHatty. Their game was very good too.
There's a problem with the plot! Why did directors and writers come up with some kind of Olivia, without her it would be better. And the ending is kind of weird. She's still in limbo, or it's the next day. Why could she not be released from this punishment? What's her fault anyway? At least that's why she got shot with a limbo.
We are all stuck in a time loop, there are many of us.
The film did not cause much admiration. And, although the plot chose interesting, but too long. Some points are not entirely clear. And Lisa (Abigail Preslin) is too replaying moments with fear: she says that there is nothing to be afraid of, but is afraid to even come to the phone and answer. Again, an incomprehensible fear, replaced periodically by a zealous interest that defies logic in its actions. Teenagers, of course, are not stable in emotions, but not so much.
Also, the plot with a spiritualistic board caused me censure in view of the wrong actions of the heroine herself.
In general, chewed, chewed this film and finally blurted out the ending, wishing everyone happy ending in its strange manifestation.
It would be good if this unconventional idea of the film was developed in some other film, changing the plot. In the film “Others” it was demonstrated more interestingly, then decided to slightly “sweet” the pill by adding a psychopath and other victims. It is a pity that very little information about other “victims” could fill the unnecessary length of the film with stories of other heroines, but they preferred to “hide”. Most of them are from our eyes.
In any case, this plot is not yet beaten or littered, and therefore pulls on the 6th, but I put the 5th due to the very unconvincing game of GG.

Reviews of this picture on the site are enough. So I'll be brief. A few lines, so to speak. I'll go to the most painful places. I'll get the point.
I won’t say that the film was very interesting to me. Just coming from training, I wanted to see something, as they say, the dream coming. I haven't watched the trailer for the movie. The reviews ran a glimpse. Anyway, I thought I'd check it out. The film caused different impressions. Not the best, by and large. Frankly, at first, there was intrigue. There was a lot of interest. But then the intrigue blows away. Watching gets boring. The plot is ambiguous. It seems to have a twist and consistent development. On the other hand, it is sluggish, from the second half of the film. The picture looks hard. It feels like they didn't come up with a good idea. They gave up trying in the middle. Of course, we spent a little money, but that’s not why it was boring. Atmospheric music is also lacking. The actors are good. Abigail Breslin seemed to be trying. At least her emotions seemed very convincing. It could have been better, I guess. Stephen McHatty was good, too. But it wasn't enough. The other actors also played their roles. We played them normally. There are no scary moments in the film. Or almost not. But in the first half of the tape, there is a frightening atmosphere.
I probably won’t recommend this movie. In any case, the desire is stronger than any recommendations. If you're interested, look. No, you're not. Or, as they say, leave it for an emergency. I don't know what grade to give. The movie isn't exactly bad. But, and, to a good strong thriller, something is not up to. So, fifty by fifty. Fair enough. Of course, this is purely my subjective opinion.
I liked the film, not to horror, but a well-made thriller with a shy touch.
First of all, what attracts attention is, of course, the storyline. The script is not at all novel, but it is at least not worn out and very competently presented, a kind of “Truman Show”, only it will be a version with elements of a horror film. The viewer is almost the whole film is kept in suspense, well, or honestly trying, in the presence of even a decent sapiens, only the ending has pumped up, or rather the general denouement of the film. In such films, I really appreciate the detective streak, that is, when the heroine tries to get to the truth, in this film she, the vein, did not disappoint me, on the contrary, I will note it as an undoubted plus of the film, it was really interesting to follow what is happening and was looking forward to the outcome. I want to note the acting of the main character, I did not really like it, but there are no special claims, especially I was pleased with the lack of moronic actions on her part, no, of course, they could and were, but I caught myself thinking that I would do the same, of course I am not a guarantor of the absence of stupidity, even in places on the contrary, but still the fact of coincidence, only pleased.
There is one disadvantage of the film, this is its ending and lead to it, it turned out to be some berry-sweetened - pumped, pumped, and then puffed, as a result, a small clot of disappointment remains after watching, it still does not interrupt the overall positive impression of the film, at least for me.
I will recommend the film for viewing, since now there is a shortage of good horror films, even if the film is not such, but at least it claims to be a title, and it does not give the viewer to get bored, so the film will definitely not become a waste of time. I wish you all.
Enjoy the viewing!!!
The painting evoked mixed feelings... It's like it's good and it's not good!
The plot is there, the mystery is there, the charm that is inherent in mysticism seems to also exist, but despite all the advantages of some component in this film is missing. And I think I know which one! Emotional! All the characters are like robots, maybe it was conceived by the writers and the director, but this makes the film a little boring.
Separately, I want to say about the storyline - initially everything is even very cool and exciting, but then the characters get bored and the solution becomes more and more tortured. And by the way, the result of the film is not clear at all, unreal, even if we assume that there is something otherworldly and unusual next to us. It's too perfect, it doesn't happen. I think you will understand me after watching this film and with an incomprehensible mixed feeling, perhaps even disappointed with the worthless result, you will look at the credits!
For the idea you can put 8 out of 10, but for how it is done and presented.
6 out of 10
First and foremost, there are no frightening faces that suddenly pop out of nowhere. If you like "The Conjuring", then safely pass by.
Most modern horror films are built on a very simple and easy reception: we drag out a scene in complete silence, and then with a loud scream and a demonic face we jump directly into the close-up. Reception, although outlived, but still cool. Because it works. From the same "Conjuring" I came out without enthusiasm, but bricks would be enough for a large fireplace or a small house. For the same reason, there is also a high score.
Vincenzo Natalie tries to scare in another way: the plot. The narrative is slow, the viewer will definitely have time to think everything over, understand and hide under the blanket from awareness of what is happening. The problem with the film is the presentation. Moments unrelated to each other take turns. Inarritu used this feature perfectly, and then the question arises - well, why? Closer to the final, the picture is lined up, but it is not cool to spend an hour fifteen times, periodically thinking that everything is cool, and the next moment ask the question “WTF?”
Little Miss Happiness has grown up, found a piercing, listens to rock and plays the clarinet. Yeah, yeah, Abigail Breslin looks great. She has an expressive face. Ideal for a second Silent Hill, but it’s too late. There's nobody else to mention. He's a little pissed off, not scared. McHatty plays weakly.
Overall, the average director nailed the idea. Probably Natalie had a bad period, because he is cool and will shoot a lot of unusual things.
Lisa wears a "Siouxsie and the Banshees" T-shirt with posters of David Bowie and Joy Division in her room. And she goes through the same day over and over again. This is approximately the plot of the new mystical thriller “Limb”. In fact, the films about ghosts, perhaps, have already filled the edge of the ordinary moviegoer, but to be honest, it is difficult to say what catches Limb - cute slightly prepared main character, atmosphere or plot, but the film really makes you look at what is happening without breaking away.
If you run superficially, it is a wild mixture of “Groundhog Day” and perhaps “Silent Heale”, where the main character already from the first seconds realizes that she is a ghost, and tries to change something in the monotonous repetitive loop of the same day. And this is a strange family drama, where the elements of the mosaic of the relationships of the main characters closer to the end are formed into a holistic puzzle revealing the true motives of the characters.
The film at first glance is quite simple, but closer to the end makes you twitch from impressive moments more than once.
In general, this is a pleasant chamber thriller, tied to the already slightly annoying story about dead people. Maxim recommends.
