Maybe that's love. "Impatience of the heart" I read Stefan Zweig a long time ago, I really liked the book, the narrative is colorful, the bright characteristics of the characters, and of course an exciting plot. And then accidentally came across the series “Love for Love”, decided to watch and ba! Familiar story.
So, the action was transferred to Russian soil, in the depths of the Russian empire, in Little Russia. The Ulan regiment and the grayness of army garrison life, entertainment are not abounding in variety - cards, chess and booze. That is probably why Lieutenant Grigoriev is happy that he is invited to the local rich man in the house, this is at least some kind of outlet from gray everyday life. But when he finds himself in an awkward position, he becomes a hostage of circumstances. Here only pathetically I can write that the body thirsts for one, and the heart reaches for another. Add the officer's honor, fellow soldiers in the regiment and get a series very close to the text of the original work. Throwing the main character surprisingly well shown, all the same adapting the work, the screenwriter very well caught the main motives and torment, and did not reinvent the wheel – left as is. That’s why the dialogues turned out to be lively, colorful – the key ones are with Lera, Dr. Dolin, Stakhovsky, they reflect the depth of the situation, doubts, desires and tragedy of the hero’s position. In the end, the screenwriter still decided to change the ending, apparently, after reading the book, he also wanted a different ending, this can be treated differently, I will tell you from myself - it did not get worse.
According to the actors, I can say that the ensemble was picked up by a good Matveev (Grigoriev), Guskov (Dolin), Shakurov (Stakhovsky) - and they played very subtly, not replaying, but immersing themselves in the atmosphere of Little Russian backwaters, family grief, father's aspirations to make his daughter happy, it was pleasant to watch them. And even a rude colonel, played by Porechenkov, came to the place, he made his episode at the end. Between Leroy (Irina Vinogradova) and Nina (Anna Peskova), it is difficult for me to say who is better. Vinogradova was able to convey her character, maybe not book, but in the series she is alive and very expressive. And Peskova looks no worse - where cold is required, where calculating is required, and in general full of compassion for a relative.
I may not seem objective, but I liked the series, maybe it looks naive somewhere, let the adaptation of Zweig, but it was done well and on conscience. At the end of the review, I asked myself, maybe this is love?
