It is so destined that Henna adorns the palms of others. To be honest, I have never heard of this film (directing works of Raj Kapoor, as such, I did not watch much, more acting). I saw it by chance, on one site, and learned that in the main male role of Rishi Kapoor, I immediately recorded it for myself. By the way, this film belongs to the 10%, the description of which completely coincides with the plot. And it was a pleasure.
In the main female role Zeba Bakhtiar. I had never heard of such an actress, so I read a lot about him before I started watching this movie. Zeba is a Pakistani actress (no wonder I haven’t seen her anywhere in Bollywood movies). I saw her for the first time in this movie. And I also learned that the original title of the film "Hna" (and not "Henna" (stress on A), just for the Russian viewer Hna, associated with coloring material, not with the name, and it turned out that Henna and is Hna, as the name of the girl).
A true masterpiece of Indian cinema! Such lively, saturated with emotions, beautiful harsh landscapes of the mountains and stunningly melodic, memorable music for a long time. It is simply necessary to watch a life film to, at a minimum, respect the creators of the film and appreciate the whole versatility of the world of Indian cinema, as a maximum - to join the Indian culture in general and forever love these songs coming from the heart, an uncomplicated, at first glance, plot, chic in its simplicity clothes of mountain residents, the wisdom of customs and aesthetic beauty of traditions, the nobility of the heroes and their willingness to sacrifice their lives for the sake of love and honor
The film once again confirmed that the character and essence of a person does not depend on his nationality or religious affiliation. Played everything great, their heroes believe to the end; Zeba just admired, I can not hold back tears, and who would hold back? Even Ashwini, perceived by me as a brightly colored cute doll (no more), in Henna, she showed herself to be an actress, still able to play serious deep dramatic roles.
The last directorial work of the great Raj Kapoor. "Henna" - a kind of film testament of Raj Kapoor, which he began but did not finish. After the sudden death of his father, the film was completed by his eldest son, Randhir. There, on the territory of Pakistan, is a small homeland of Raja Kapoor. Kapurs are native to the Punjab, Punjabi kshatriyas, hereditary warriors and rulers, representatives of the highest nobility. Because of the division of India into three states, Raj Kapoor could not visit the land of his ancestors, and he was not released for fear of an accidental shot, the bullet does not understand where it is flying. After 1988, his son Rishi was also going to visit Peshawar, but did not have time. In a sense, the film "Henna" is a longing for their native places, and a call to stop the fratricidal war between Pakistan and India, to open the borders for passage to everyone in both directions.
Judging by the film, Raj Kapoor managed to fully work out the script, put comments and make references, so that Randhira remained exactly following the notes. The only thing Randhir changed was to re-write the songs and take the role of the main character Rishi instead of the younger brother Rajiva recommended by his father. He explained his decision simply - Rishi a more popular actor, the viewer will go to him.
And the movie was a success! Despite the fact that Raj-ji did not take part in the shooting, it is still felt his invisible presence in every scene, in every episode, in every frame. The film became a hit in 1991, especially in those places where he was shot.
The game Zeba Bakhtiar in the title role received wide recognition and brought her a nomination in the category "Best female role" at Filmfare Awards. She is next to Salma Aga and Saba Kamar; she is one of the few Pakistani actresses nominated for the Filmfare Awards.
The performance of Farida Jalal as Bibi Gul was also highly praised; she won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film also received several other nominations, including "Best Film" and "Best Director".
The film marked the debut of actress Ashwini Bhave in Hindi cinema; who played a prominent role in the film, and she gained great popularity due to the success of the film.
The first thing that amazes anyone watching this film is the breathtaking scenery. The film is shot in some of the most visually stunning places on this planet. It looks like a lively painting by Monet. The Pakistani part of the film was shot in Kashmir. Some parts were filmed in Switzerland and Austria.
The second most powerful aspect of this film is the music. The songs are incredibly melodic and still popular. And a great musical accompaniment Ravindra Jain, which included such hits as "Main Hoon Khush Rang", "Anaaradana" and "Der Na Ho Jaaye Kahin". The voice Laty Mangeshkar will haunt you for several days after watching the film. It will stay in your heart for a long time.
The performance of all actors is excellent. Said Jaffrey stands out with his image of the father Henna. Zeba herself is very good at portraying a naive, innocent and cute Pakistani girl. Raza Murad at his best manifestation of evil.
The film also encourages viewers to explore the state of the world and themselves. Can a single line drawn on a map really cause such hatred and hostility among people? Unfortunately, the answer is yes.
And speaking of acting, directing, filmmaking, I have to say that everyone has done a fantastic job in their field. Zeba Bakhtiar conquers your heart with her sweet and unselfish love. Obviously, she is the main character. The film has many moral teachings that can enrich you spiritually. The film touches the heart, it shows the beauty of Kashmir, a film that must be seen.
