Sweet sin of forgetting. It's time to wake up.
- That would make sense.
A quote from the movie.
Vodka is a traditional drink, both in joy and in sorrow, on the tables of many people. It is like a coin, two facets of different events. Joy brings if you drink moderately. It keeps the riots if you go too far. Such an addiction is described in this film.
Promille is the first independent film by Icelandic filmmaker Martin Thorson. The short film was shot in amateur style in just 4 days. Starring Oulavur Darry Oulavsson. A wide range of viewers know more from the films “The Incredible Life of Walter Mitty”, “Smuggling” and the series “True Detective”. Play actors at the level, however. for me it was possible to take people from the street, as there are no special acting difficulties in this film. In ppm, the salinity of the water is measured, and the level of alcohol in the blood. It is no coincidence that the film is called that. In short operator "smears" shows the stages of intoxication of the hero: 0.6,1,3,2,2 ppm. “I like it. I like ... “I like to get stuck in the morning,” says Eric, the character around whom the plot of the film is built. A harsh middle-aged male lawyer with a slightly unkempt appearance and a little overgrown. The whole film is shown through the main character's alcoholic sleep. He often meets people (even from afar dissimilar in spirit, casual acquaintances), whom he does not remember in his alcoholic adventures. Eric prefers forgetting to real life. He cannot hold his reality tightly. It is easier for such people to get drunk, get away from problems in their intoxicating dream. At times, Eric has flashes of conscience, unresolved issues. “We have to go see our mother. Send her to rehabilitation, he worries, but after two minutes another sip of vodka and another load of problems “flies away” for a while. “Drinking is getting more expensive, and I can’t buy new shoes” – the main message of the film, uttered by Glavhero.
How dependent we are on the bad habits that have taken hold of us. People living the matrix of illusion, escaped from reality, fed by the surrogate of life, and no matter what dependence such people sit on, be it alcohol or nicotine, gaming or any other. The result is the same. It's important to know if you're ready to get out of this swamp. However, some people like such a swamp. Some people, meeting their “black man” understand, others get bogged down in it. Everyone chooses their own path.
Conclusion: Not a bad short with a hint of arthouse and originality. It's too domestic, but the end of the film makes the gray matter strain.
