"Mikami is a spirit slayer" is such an anime very in the spirit of the nineties. Let's just say "old school."
The plot is frankly secondary and idiotic. A kind of Japanese mixture of Rubak, Ghostbusters and Sailormun. And these three things remind not only the plot. Here's the main character, for example, from "Slayers" got character, from the "hunters" came profession, and Usagi Tsukino gave appearance. In fact, the drawing in Mikami's is archaic, just from the late twentieth century. From there, the archetypes of villains, which have long been stamped, and ways to fight them in the name of, of course, Great Justice.
It may seem that this series is not worth attention at all, but it is not.
The coolest thing about the “Spirit Slayer” is, firstly, the banter on everything you get, and secondly, complete freedom in expressing emotions.
With the first, everything is simple – this is a long series, simple spirits in the style of mysticism for 45 episodes are not enough. That’s why there will be so many things... Fantasy? Please! Fantastic? Western? Noir? Whatever you want, comedy as the main genre allows you to create almost anything, without looking at common sense, with which, in fact, the anime has a clear strain.
The second one is even more interesting. The humor in Mikami is mostly black. A lot of fan service. A huge number of female characters and tied to them are typically Japanese jokes like blood from the nose. There are a lot of ambiguous jokes, and at the same time there are educational moments, in the spirit of “doing this bad, don’t do this.” The result is a nuclear mixture of ethie and seriousness that simply would not have been possible at any other time.
It is impossible to calculate the level of idiocy in this series, because it is very high. The Moon in the Sailor is number two. Which, in principle, is not so bad. Not everyone will like it, but it’s worth a look.
