Accidentally saw Michael Madsen on the poster, and immediately rushed to see the film. 2013 is a fresh year! And Madsen! All this is very intriguing imagination.
Unfortunately, Madsen was hardly in the movie. But where he was, those were the best moments. Just he got the role of his father-in-law, irreconcilable with a potential son-in-law - a stupid knave, a real slut in life. As much as he could, Madsen discouraged his daughter from marrying an idiot, and he was certainly right in his persuasion. The whole movie is about this character.
The name was translated not just inaccurately, but exactly the opposite - the con man in the film is not a father-in-law at all. How could it be so irresponsible to translate the name? It was because of this inaccuracy that I expected the whole film to lead to Madsen’s character, and that would be not only a confirmation of the title, but also a very remarkable plot twist! (Would you rather have a direct translation of the English-language original Lionhead?)
The picture is tailored so that you constantly expect the beginning of some tough showdowns, such as tarantino style. They are even in the bud, just a little bit. But a stunning reversal of events never happens, alas. What can we say if each “combat” scene with blows was performed in a typically primitive format of cinematic-Chinese martial arts! Sluggish.
Conclusion. Very mediocre picture, but still drags its plot.
